What antics were going on in the land of Mamoko back in the times of fair maidens, kings, and courtiers? This is the third book in the revolutionary Mamokoseries, in which the reader becomes the storyteller, telling aloud their discoveries as they use their eyes to uncover the castle-load of characters packed into every page.

This is a wordless I Spy type of book, but with a cast of characters and a plot. Board book and kid friendly, this book has bright and detailed drawings. Follow Robin Hoof, Jasper Fuggle-Hop and others as they go adventuring, locate hidden and misplaced items, and wind up at the feast table with the whole group. The children I showed it to (Kindergarteners) were not very interested, but perhaps if they were in a focused environment, they would enjoy the book more.
Similar to, “Waldo books but several characters you’ve can look for and easier for younger children like preschoolers. My little one found the Waldo books overwhelming so this is a good alternative.
This book has no words, just dozens of stories going on simultaneously in pictures. Choose a character and follow that character through the book. Do it over and over with different characters.
Quinton and I adore this book. It's a little like Where's Waldo except we get to look for each character and the story lines they have in the 7 well-illustrated scenes.
Every character has a name and a question to get us started on the first page and several of the story lines cross one another. The witch buys mushrooms from the peddler and then is able to transform the wicked dragon by the end. I love looking at the same story from so many different viewpoints, and Quinton is telling the tale rather than just listening to me.
Good stuff. I'll be looking for more by these author/illustrators.
September 2016 - Ben either isn't ready, or wasn't in the mood to follow multiple characters. We followed maybe 2 through the story, but it's the kind of thing maybe better appreciated in another year or so. I flipped through another Mamoko book at work a while ago and loved the concept.
March 2019 - Ben's current favorite, we've been looking through it most nights. He's really into spotting all the details and every single character, but still wants me to "read" it with him.
A clever twist on the wordless picture book, The World of Mamoko in the Time of Dragons features not one possible avenue for a story, but twenty-six! Each of the characters have their own adventures leading up to the city of Mamoko's big banquet, ensuring that it'll be a long time before a reader runs out of stories to tell.
This is the best modern search and find book ever. AS GOOD as Where's Waldo. The setting is wild and the characters are hilarious. I love the feeling of community/city-living/kinship throughout, the crazily and adorably drawn cast interact in a page by page plot, and there is SO MUCH to look at. All three books in this series are superb, I can't wait for more!
no word book of pictures of a made up place. Does give explanation of the characters at the beginning and you could find them in each picture. Great for fans of where's waldo.
