This is a instructional crochet book, with clear basic stitches tutorial tips tricks and crochet symbols. Right amount illustration pictures. The pattern are standar written pattern but the project is very cute. I would love to recommend this one to my amigurumi community.
Thank you to Netgalley and Landauer Publisher from Fox Chapel Publishing for providing a copy of this ebook. I have voluntarily read and reviewed it. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This is a beautifully put together book with plenty of pictures, labels, and detailed instructions. The patterns have correctly identified difficulty labels as well. I have to say that the projects themselves aren't the cutest things I've ever seen––I think part of that is due to the fuzzy yarn, honestly––but the patterns are well-written and creative, which is impressive!
This is a unique book of crochet patterns to create reversible projects. The projects include: Bear/Panda; Bee/Hive; Squirrel/Mouse to Hand-Holding Otters; Penguin/Owl; Sloth/Lemur/Monkey (3 options); and Fox/Cat (reversible hand puppets). Each pattern provides the finished size of the project, difficulty level, supplies needed, with pictures of various steps along the way. The book begins with a lot of helpful information--with pictures--on needed tools and supplies, choosing fur yarn, creating gauge swatches, crochet tips and techniques, making eyes, working with fur yarn, and pinning/sewing/joining pieces. Although the reversible projects use fur yarn, most of the patterns include directions on how to make it non-reversible and with stuffing. Because working with fur yarn is not easy for beginners, I would recommend this book for very advanced beginners and beyond. * I received this book free of charge from NetGalley

Crocheting Reversible Amigurumi Projects: Adorable 2-Way Furry Animals with Cuddly Detailing by Jessie Van In is currently scheduled for release on February 6 2024. This is a book of inside-out animal crochet patterns created with traditional and faux fur yarns. Filled with tips, tricks, and techniques to build your skills and ensure success for every design, this exciting guide features seven adorable amigurumi patterns that are reversible and transform into a whole new design. From a fox that becomes a cat, a snowball that becomes a penguin, otters that become seashells, and more, these designs are truly one-of-a-kind and offer something special to the craft of amigurumi crochet. I was intrigued by the idea of Crocheting Reversible Amigurumi Projects. I have made amigurumi before, but never saw or tried patterns that were reversible before, so I just had to see how this worked. I thought the information in the beginning of the book was very helpful, as I am among those crafters that dread pulling out the textured or fur yarn. I have had it go badly, and generally find it frustrating, but this book offered hope that I could make that process much easier and made something cute in the process. I thought the projects were both cute and clever, and the instructions were very detailed and easy to follow. The included pictures help to make things even more clear. I love that the author reminds readers that the up side of working with the fur yarn is that it will hide any small mistakes that might be made along the way while also leaving plenty of room and tips for switching out colors and yarns to better suit the readers taste, needs, of materials that they can find. I think this book offers readers everything promised, and what readers need to succeed in making the projects included while enjoying the process.
Crocheting Reversible Amigurumi Projects is a handy little craft book that teaches you to do exactly that - crochet reversible amigurumi. The book also teaches you how to sew with fur/feather/chenille/eyelash yarns in a way that won;t make you tear your hair out. The author is very clear that these patterns are designed to teach you how to work with fur yarn, and that they will not be easily translated into "normal" yarn.
The first half of the book is all about technique. In a refreshing change, the author has included international measurements/yarn weights/hook sizes, and a cheat sheet ofabbreviations used in the book. There is the assumption that the reader knows what they're doing, so while there are extensive, detailed descriptions of techniques, the basics (how to do an SC, DC, HDC etc) are assumed. The instructions that are included however, are clear, well laid out and accompanied by clear photos.
There are pages detailing how to work with the fur yarn to the best effect (note: the copy I had included a small error with the images in this section), instructions on crocheting eyes, steps to assemble challenging shapes, steps to join the reversible items, and many other useful tips that will transfer across to every day crocheting.
The projects themselves are cute and fuzzy! The instructions are well written and easy to follow, and include options for making non-reversible creatures as well as reversible ones. The most complicated part of these projects is the assembly, as some piece are quite "bitty".
The fur colour choices in the book weren't necessarily my cup of tea, but overlooking that, this was a really good book for learning to work with fur yarns in a fun way.

Crocheting Reversible Amigurumi Projects is a fun (and beautiful) collection of reversible soft toys by Jessi Van In. Released 19th March 2024 by Fox Chapel, it's 111 pages and is available in paperback and ebook formats.
These projects are fun, colorful and appealing. The book contains 6 complete tutorials with several variations of each, as well as a thorough introductory tutorial and all the basic techniques/theory necessary to understand how to do them. Each tutorial contains a complete supplies list, difficulty rating, size (with recommended yarns), and step by step tutorial directions. The book is very well photographed throughout and the "action" shots are rendered without hands or tools obscuring the details (very handy). The photography is clear and in color.
The author makes use of furry "eyelash" yarn on most of the tutorials (see cover photo). The results are very cute and cuddly.
The book also contains a QR code link to the author's website which contains a lot of additional content and video links as well as some free project tutorials.
Four and a half stars. Well made and very fun. The tutorials are not too advanced for crafters who are familiar with the basics of crochet. The text is clearly written in understandable step-by-step language.
Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.
After a few failed attempts at making fluffy scarves and hats as a teen, I’ve avoided fur yarn at all costs but this book has changed my mind. The author takes great pains to reduce the stress of working with more difficult yarns and has stuffed the book full of tips and tricks to help you on your way.
What sets this book apart ++VERY detailed instructions with ample pictures to show you how to do various techniques. I have been crocheting for some time and still found them useful.
Pros +Detailed explanation of yarn types, the importance of gauge and how it may alter the finished product +A variety of interesting designs ranging from beginner to expert with options for personalization +Well laid out instructions combined with thoughtfully selected photos
Cons -Some of the patterns weren’t exactly what I would call cute, maybe bordering on creepy… but each to their own -The tone can come across as a bit bossy at times but it is clear the author just wants everyone to succeed and is giving them a stern talking to about following the rules
Summary I would definitely recommend Crocheting Reversible Amigurumi Projects for the adventurous soul that wants to up their toy making game. For those of you just dipping your toes in the world crochet I would maybe hold back until you gain a bit of experience as even the easiest pattern takes a lot of fiddling.
I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own
These animals are so cute! I know that this is going to show my age with this comment, but they sort of remind me of Popples! The big difference is that Popples only turned into a ball. Whereas these darlings turn into other things depending on the project you choose. For instance, the pattern for the fox has an inside that is a cat. The otter becomes a seashell.
The other cool thing is that you don't have to make them reversible if you don't want. You can actually make them one sided and seal them closed. So, if you only want that adorable panda bear, then you make the panda part of the pattern and then fill it with stuffing and seal it off. Then you have a cute stuffed panda.
There are so many handy tips and guidance in this book that even beginners like me have a chance at creating these cuties. I know that it will take me awhile to finish one of these patterns, but I am working my way through one at the moment, stitch-by-stitch. Granted, it is turning out bigger than it is supposed to be. That is because my stitches are still pretty loose. But as I said, I am learning, and the directions are easy to follow for a beginner.
Thank you NetGalley and Fox Chapel Publishing for providing me with a digital copy of this book in exchange for an open and honest review.
This book is a must have for anyone who makes crochet toys! The patterns are unique and so eye-catching. In addition to being aesthetically pleasing, the patterns are also versatile, with some having various options for what creature you want them to “flip” to. The information in the front is very thorough, taking time to go over techniques and information on supplies that sets the reader up for success. While I think the difficulty level of the patterns may be a little tricky for true beginners, there is a lot of support and tips and tricks throughout the book to help. I feel like readers would have everything they need to complete a piece. The patterns do involve sewing, surface crochet, side stitching, and things that a true beginner may have a hard time with, but again, it is all covered in beginning section of the book. I actually even learned a new technique (the running stitch marker)!
*Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher/author for providing a free ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review!*
The concept of reversible projects is fascinating to me, and though it might sound like a daunting process, this book describes the steps in great detail, and makes it seem like an achievable - even if fiddly - goal. Unfortunately I wasn't personally too taken with the projects themselves, but the penguin/owl was cute, and could be something I might make in the future. But that's definitely a _me_ thing, and not an issue with the book itself.
The entire first section of the book is a "how-to" of all the techniques you need to master, in order to make these critters, making it an excellent reference manual, and every step is clearly illustrated with images, so it's easy to follow along, even for a beginner. The patterns themselves are probably more suited for an experienced crocheter, but you never know - my very first crochet project was an amigurumi snail - simply because it was so cute that I HAD to learn how to crochet in order to make it!
Such a great crocheting book! I love the beautiful , colorful photos throughout the book. This book is good for both new and experienced crocheters. The book begins with clear directions and photos of basic crochet stitches and other necessary skills. As I was reading through, I found a few tips that I wasn’t familiar with, ,and I’ve been crocheting for years! I also loved how the projects use both ‘regular’ and furry yarn, such a great combination to give an adorable amigurumi animal . As I was looking through the book, this sentence made me smile-“Your crochet and sewing supplies can be as colorful and fun as the figures you’re creating’. I love bright colors too, and just loved seeing so many beautiful colors throughout the book. I have started a few of her projects and will be finishing them soon. Can’t wait to give them to my grandkids! Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC.
These little guys look like so much fun! The pictures in this book are very clear. There is a whole introductory section about crocheting in general, using gauge swatches for these projects, and tips & techniques for using fur yarn. Some of these areas show photos of the right and wrong way to do things, which is extremely helpful. When you get to the pattern there are multiple photos of different steps to help you out. These instructions are very detailed, as is the pattern. Because of the difficulty of crocheting with fur yarn, I'd say this book is probably for crocheters headed to the advanced stage. However, if crocheting with fur (and all the steps of amigurumi, making and attaching multiple small pieces) comes naturally to you, the patterns are straightforward. It just takes time and effort. ;)
I received an electronic arc of this book from the publisher via NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
Thank you to Jessie Van In for putting together this book! I am a long-time crocheter and have been making stuffies for my grandchildren for several years now. I have always felt there was plenty of room for improvement of my techniques, and this book has given me some guidance in techniques that I can change to make final results even better! Even the dreaded "sew everything together" tips help! I especially like the information about fur yarn --- because I tried only once and then have steadily avoided those projects This book and technique tips gave me enough confidence to try again and I am pleased with the results! Thank you to NetGalley and Fox Chapel Publishing, Landauer Publishing for the opportunity to read and review this advance reader copy. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own. #NetGalley #LandauerPublishing

Big Thank you to Netgalley and especially Fox Chapel Publishing, for my Arc.........
I’ve been scared of attempting to crochet with fur yarn. I’ve heard a bunch of horror stories of how hard it is to work with. After reading this book, everything is less intimidating. There is a comprehensive section of the types of fur yarn and how to choose the right one for each project. The beginning section had very detailed instructions on all the skills needed to complete the projects in the book. I really enjoyed how detailed this book was. My favorite project in the book was Smuggles the Fox and Flossy the Cat hand puppets. I also liked that each project had a detailed assembly section with pictures. I would have a lot of confidence in making any project from this book! I recommend this book to crocheters who are interested in working with fur yarn to make adorable amigurumi projects.
As a new “hooker” who primarily crochets amigurumi, I enjoyed this book very much. The projects are unique. The patterns are clear & thorough. The book begins with some crochet introduction content, which is extra helpful to those of us who may need a quick crochet refresher for terminology or how to start that next stitch. I enjoyed the step-by-step instructions, as well as the book’s clean yet visually appealing aesthetic. My favorite part is that it includes patterns on how to crochet eyes for the amigurumi. The photos are well-staged for ease of learning this exciting hobby. The QR codes included add a great addition for those who need further tips and instruction. Loving this adorable amigurumi book & can’t wait to complete all of these projects!
Thank you to NetGalley & the publisher for this ARC in exchange for an honest review! I loved this book! A must have if you love cute animals and crocheting! Also, I think this pattern book will make the perfect gift! This book has such creative patterns! The nature of these patterns, being reversible amigurumi, might make them difficult for a first time crocheter, but I promise if you've ever done any crochet projects before you'll find that this book has pretty clear instructions with helpful tips and glossaries. The pictures that demonstrate the techniques are very nice additions! I was very impressed with this pattern book!
Crocheting reversible Amigurumi Projects is an awesome book. So fun! The projects are nit only adorable the directions and supplies are well laid out and detailed. I can’t wait to try them! I have already pre-ordered a copy for a relative who I know will absolutely love it. This would make the perfect gift for anyone wanting fun designs to try. I mean the furry animals in so many variations, the little furry holding hands designs that can be switched with other patterns n hat with fuzzy trim is r fir me I'm sold I could just on and on. So basically if you knit get it it’s short but sweet!
I received a copy of this book through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This is a cute book about making animal plushies that are reversible.
This book is a helpful guide on using furry yarn and lists what items you'll need as well as examples of stitches with pictures. There's patterns of several reversible crochet animals and instructions on how to make them. This is a cute book with fun ideas, but does require some existing knowledge of crochet I think to really be successful.
So many crochet artists I know will not try amigurumi, they think it's too hard. I used to think that too. Jessie Van In has given us a book of patterns that is easy to follow and understand at any skill level. I worked several patterns with no issues then asked a friend of mine who had never tried amigurumi to try some. To her amazement, she completed several too. I'd recommend this book to any of my friends and family with a basic understanding of crichet stitches. If I can do it, so can you.
🧶 Just finished "Crocheting Reversible Amigurumi Projects" by Jessie Van In – her talent shines in these reversible designs! While they're stunning, I'd say they're more suited for intermediate to advanced crocheters. Beginners might find the fur yarn and intricate assembly a bit challenging. Perfect for crochet vendors though – these designs are sure to fly off the shelves! Overall, gorgeous patterns with a user-friendly layout. #netgalley #CrochetReview #AmigurumiDesigns 🌟
Although I found this book to be cute and well written, I feel that the subject is for more advanced Crocheters despite assertions that "only a small knowledge of crochet" is needed. I have tried to work with fluffy yarn before and it nearly drove me to madness. Working with it and attempting to stitch two sides together would break me. Some of the tips, however, have been really useful- especially the running stitch marker and how to change colours. The pictures are clear and easy to follow, especially since they use different coloured yarn/wool to show the pattern. As much as I loved the patterns, I do think this is beyond my skill set.
This is an excellent book for even beginning crocheters. Ms. Van In does a great job of explaining processes and she provides step-by-step pictures of each different stitch. The patterns are unique and adorable. Each step of the process and ways to make the pattern reversible are explained. She also provides adaptions of the amigurumi from one animal to another. I recommend and will be looking at more of her patterns.
I was so excited for this book. As soon as I saw the cover I recognized the distinctive style of the Projectarian! She makes other great patterns (some also reversible amigurumi) and I was so glad to see she had made a hardcover book! Her patterns are easy to follow and very informative. I would say her patterns tend to be for intermediate crocheters, but wouldn't scare away an advanced beginner.
Oh my, there are so many cuties in this book ! I love that the eyes/nose are all crocheted/sewed/embroidered and we don't have to find safety eyes the size of the project. For beginners, the beginning of the book has tons of tips to help.
Thanks to Netgalley and Fox Chapel Publishing for access to this arc in exchange for my honest review.
I have read and tried several descriptions of the artist, this book did not disappoint either. Detailed descriptions, lots of pictures, which show the basics step by step, so even beginners can take it in their hands and create their own little figures. In the book, the fur-effect yarn is in the foreground, from which we can create a lot of fluffy and clownish, huggable creatures.
Very cute! I was interested to see how how people were making these flips or stuffed animal. While i definitely think that this project is more in-depth, I do feel this book simplifies in the best way possible. I would suggest having experience with crochet and have done a few regulars stuffed animals.
I received a copy of this eBook for a honest review from netGalley.
So adorable! Ideas I haven't seen before. I love the crocheted eyes and the tips in the beginning on how to crochet in new ways. These projects are so cute and the pictures make it feel assessable though probably not for beginners. I would love to own a copy of this book to make a few of these critters.
Do you want to work with fur yarn? Do you like cute stuffed animals and reversible projects? This is the book for you! It begins with a lot of details on fur yarn and how to crochet with it, including practice pieces. The projects themselves are adorable, and not too difficult.
Recommended.
