Baker's Law

Rate this book
Blue Collar Baker

In high school, Marissa Llewellyn had the hots for golden boy Jackson "Jax" Carlisles. So when he arrives at her bakery, yummier than ever, to investigate a series of break-ins, she can't help being reminded of the awkward girl she was. But that's not the reason she evades his questions….

Silver Spoon Sheriff

Jax grew up as part of the Fort Worth country club set, but as the new chief of police, that's all behind him, much to the chagrin of his family. Though he may not remember Marissa, he can't stop thinking about the woman she's become—and the secret she's obviously keeping from him.

A Recipe for Romance…or Disaster?

Marissa is determined to help the homeless teen she caught breaking into her shop, even if that means lying to Jax. And when the sparks between her and the sexy sheriff ignite into a passionate affair, Marissa will have to choose between following the rules he upholds, and her own sense of justice.

Bakery owner Marissa Llewellyn knows someone has been coming into her bakery after hours. Not stealing anything but a few cupcakes, she has a trap set to find out who and ends up running them off but finds herself getting help from Sheriff Jax Carlisle. Jax is back in town, his family is well to do and Marissa never had any real interaction with him in high school.

Jax remembers Marissa, she was one of a few who didn't fawn all over him. He isn't sure what it is about Marissa but he can't stop thinking about her. She is hiding something though so as the two but heads the chemistry explodes. Solving a ring of burglaries plus trying to figure out what is happening between them, Jax and Marissa are struggling to find their own brand of normalcy.

This had a ton of potential it built up but the end was so rushed I felt like it lost some of its charm it was building. Sweet story, liked the way Marissa became a mother bear to a runaway. Jax is trying to figure out what Marissa means to him while dealing with a prema-donna of a mother. Entertaining read.

This was a cute small town romance. Marissa owns a bakery and one day catches a teenager who broke in and worries he is homeless. Jax recently moved back to town to be the police chief. He is dealing with his overbearing mother and younger sister's wedding planning. Even though they disagree over the "break in", Jax and Marissa can't seem to stay apart long.

The romance was a little quick, but otherwise enjoyable. Secondary characters are interesting and of course a lovely, happy ending.

Ahh, I wanted to read a delightful romance and I did and it was glorious. I always feel cliché when I like small town romances. SHE HAS A BAKERY SHOP AND IT'S SUPER SUCCESSFUL AND THAT'S REALISTIC. I don't care. They have sex in her shop's kitchen. It's amazing. I really liked both characters, and I thought the sexual tension was really well done. The Hall(s?) story was good and endearing. The secondary characters and the town were fun too.

Of course he proposes after a week and talks about their future children. Why do romances do this? Everything was progressing normally and then, bam? I think it's because of all those fairy tales and older romances and historicals where you can't say happily ever after without a wedding. But this is 2015! You can! People don't get married like that! In this book there was even a way to make them almost-married without him having to propose (handwaving something about how life will be easier with Halls if they live together?). Ah well. I don't want to put that much emphasis on this because it was a really nice romance, but the too-fast proposal was more grating than I usually find it.

overall great book!

So I didn't hate this book from the start but probably on page 5 or 5 I was already rolling my eyes because as soon as the heroine sees the hero she gets physically aroused (I don't want to going to detail here but it was unrealistic) That was just really cheesy for me.

As the book continued I really enjoyed it. Except unfortunately it was painfully obvious to me that the author didn't know anything about police procedure, especially in Texas (which is where I live & I work for two Courts).

It Delighted me that the book took place very close to where I live.

As I read on I absolutely adore this book and couldn't put it down. This is pretty much the best book I've read in a month or two!

I love the chemistry the sex was written hot and I was rooting for them from the beginning.

I do have to say that the heroine confused me a little bit. She was very angry at the hero and then she went to his house and they didn't talk about it at all but they had a tremendous night. It wasn't unwelcome but it was totally contradictory to how she was feeling before the scene and in their last interaction on page.

They both realized that they were in love with each other a bit too soon for me but I just went with the flow of the story. It didn't quite fit, other than the obvious physical attraction but it did make me want to put the book down either.

Okay so I have already said I loved this book. And I do, but why did the hero have a revolver? The book came out on 2014. Small town Texas or not the guy wouldn't have a revolver. Obviously there was no research on the author's part. Another point of no research. The bad guy was stabbed with a letter opener stuck in his leg. The paramedics would never have taken it out. These are the lil things that tend to bug me.

The ending was a tad rushed for me but nonetheless very cute. This was a great read that left me wanting more.

This was a fun and easy read. It's been a very long time since I picked up a Harlequin Romance, and I was not disappointed. I truly enjoyed the story of Marissa and Jax.

Marissa was an ugly duckling that grew into a beautiful woman who owned her own successful bakery. She had always had a little crush on Jax.

Jax grew up with the privileged life on the other side of town, high school football god turned cop. He left small town life to pursue his career. Years later he's back and now the new police chief.

A series of break ins throw these two together and the sparks begin to fly. Marissa is a do gooder at heart and tries to help a troubled teen but Jax has his own suspicions as to why the teen is hanging around Marissa and her shop.

Can these two find a common ground and make it work?

I really liked this story, It was cute and fun with a little bit of mystery thrown in. The love scenes were subtle and not explicit. I also liked the secondary characters and would love to read books about them. If you're looking for a quick, light and cute read, give this one a try.

2.5 Stars. It was all right, although Marissa's lack of trust became a little annoying. Also, it was very similar to Susan Mallery's book Sweet Spot, which is about a woman who owns a bakery, and winds up taking in a homeless teenager during the course of her romance with a former football star. I couldn't help comparing the two books, and Ms. Mallery's worked better for me.

Fantastic read. I read it straight through in one sitting. Jax was great. Hot and in charge! Marissa followed her heart though, in a way that gained her more respect in his eyes than if she'd just caved in to him. Perfect! Highly recommend it!
