Love Me is book one in the Donovan Family series by Margaret Watson. Helen Brody was working in her office when a car drove through the front door and nearly killed her. Helen's landlord hired a contractor to repair her office, Jamie Evans, a person she had never thought of seeing again. When Helen Brody's family discovered that the damage to her office was not an accident, Jamie Evans decided to stay to protect her. Will Helen Brody and Jamie Evans have a second chance at Love? The readers of Love Me will continue to follow Helen Brody and Jamie Evans to discover what happens.

Love Me is the second book I have read by Margaret Watson, and I engaged with this book from the first page and continued to the end. Reading Love Me, I started to understand the issues that women have when they believe they cannot have children. I love Margaret Watson's portrayal of her characters in Love Me and their interaction with each other throughout this book. Love Me is well-written and researched by Margaret Watson. I like Margaret Watson's description of the settings of Love Me, which allowed me to imagine being part of the book's plot.

I recommend this book.

Helen Brody survived a car driven straight through her office with only a sprained ankle. She was lucky .. her office was totally destroyed.

While waiting for the contractor to show up, she calls the police ..who happen to be a part of the Donovan family. Her gut feeling is that she was targeted. The car was stolen and the driver never found.

Another surprise ... the contractor is none other than Jamie Evans, a man she had a one-night stand with a year ago. She's never forgotten him and it seems that Jamie has forgotten nothing either. Now that he has found her again, he's not about to let her go.

And then there is a second attempt on her life. Helen is a lawyer specializing in child custody cases. Is one of her unhappy clients behind these attempts?

Helen is trying to chase Jamie away ... although she has admitted to herself that she loves Jamie, she can't give him what he most wants. And she would much rather chase him away now rather than wait until he leaves her.

This is the first of several books in this series .. and it works well as a stand-alone. It's well written with all the angst of lost love. Warning: explicit intimate moments. I would classify this one as a Romantic Suspense, heavy on the romance, lighter on the mystery.

I was provided a copy of Love Me in exchange for an honest review. This is the type of book I really like; the two leads had one explosive night together over a year ago, and haven’t been able to stop thinking about each other. Fate brings them back together, and their chemistry does the rest.

Helen is an Attorney specializing in family law; currently working on a custody case that has put her in the line of fire. Jamie is the contractor hired to fix her demolished office, after someone suspiciously drove a car through it. This is when Jamie and Helen’s attractions come into the story, and readers immediately anticipate more. This is also when we are introduced to Helen’s big family of cops. I thought this was weird; they made her the aunt of all the cops, yet she only a few years older. It’s explained later; however, I didn’t feel it added much to Helen’s story. She could have just been one of the sisters, who ran a little wild and had the same backstory; I just think this confused things a bit.

Watson started her world of the Donovan Family a little confusing for my tastes; yet at the same time, we are left with the question of how Helen and Jamie’s story progresses, and curious about how the Donovan siblings will find love. Overall, I liked the story; it had a sexy plot, with suspense, danger, and action. I am giving it 3 Boundless Stars....Sara

✩ ✩ ✩ ✩ FOUR-STAR ✩ REVIEW ✩ ✩ ✩ ✩

⭐ ⭐ Provided by Author in Exchange for an Honest Review ⭐ ⭐

Judging a Book by it's Cover:
Original cover is awful dark and does not catch the eye very well. However, the new cover is bold, vibrant, striking. Synopsis does not provide a lot of information on the series, but I was told this is a series about a set of brothers that are in law enforcement.

Looking Deeper:
Third-person POV. This prequel novella starts out in a rather unique way. The injured heroine enters a crime scene, that we learn more about later. Helen is a lawyer, mostly handling custody cases. Jamie is a contractor, hired by the property owner that leases Helen's office space to repair damages at the aforementioned crime scene. They just happen to have a one-night life-altering night behind them from about a year ago.

Both lead characters are strong and smart. The secondary characters consist primarily of her much older sister, four nephews and one niece, latter five all working in law enforcement (FBI and Chicago PD). There are a few other minor secondaries that also help build and fill the individual plot. Dialogue is very good, interaction is believable. The plot, while a bit predictable, was quick-paced and easy flowing. There were a few spots where something was mentioned that happened "a while ago" and you feel like you've been left out of the loop or are missing information, but I'm assuming it was meant to give the Donovan's a more established history right off the starting block. I enjoy the interaction of the family structure between the Donovan's, but wish we had the opportunity to learn a little more about the Jamie and his history instead of feeling like he was almost delegated to a secondary character in light of the series as a whole. The conclusion felt a bit rushed and loose-ended, implying there would be a Happily Ever After but not really solidifying it. I'm hoping their story continues to play out in the background of the other books in the series.

Overall, this was a quick read with an enjoyable plot. While I felt that the Evans side of the couple was sidelined to the bigger picture, the couple themselves were equals and a very good match. I hope to read the other books in this series in the near future.

The Donovan Family by Margaret Watson

Romantic Suspense

Love Me (Book 1)

Overall Rating: 3.5 (sXe)

Quick & Dirty summary: Helen Brody is trying not to think about whether the car that drove right through her office walls was accelerating or not. A good distraction walks through the door when Jamie Evans turns out to be the general contractor who is hired to repair her office. She has never forgotten the one night she spent with Jamie and it turns out that Jamie hasn’t forgotten either. Jamie is ready to pick up where they left off, but Helen is concerned that he could never be happy with her in the long run. As a person continues to threaten Helen, Jamie has to convince Helen not only to give their relationship a chance, but to let him protect her until her life is no longer in danger.

This was a very fast-paced book. While there is conflict between Helen and Jamie, it isn’t long and drawn out. The fact that Helen and Jamie’s relationship began off-page prior to the start of the novel adds perceived length to a relatively short book (122 pages). Another component that I like about this suspense is that there isn’t a lot of mystery, but there is a lot of action and suspense. The question isn’t who the perpetrator is, but when and where he will strike.

With the short length of the book, it is difficult to get a real sense of the primary characters. Certainly the secondary characters, or the other Donovan’s, are described with strong characteristics. In some ways this makes them caricatures, but in other ways it makes sense since the rest of the series centers around these people. I am looking forward to reading more from this series to see how the characters evolve or develop.

Is it worth buying? (Kindle Free)
Yes, you saw that correctly! This book is free. And yes, it is worth buying!

Something else you might enjoy:
If you like a series about law enforcement, then try Julie James’ FBI/US Attorney series. While I haven’t reviewed them here, I enjoyed all of the books. The main characters are not related and all of the novels are standalones, though interconnected, but they are all involved in law enforcement.

*I received this book free from the author in exchange for an honest review*

Helen is a lawyer whose life is basically her job. She works long hours and gives it everything she has. But the one time she gave in and had herself one night of fun she never expected that man to show up on her doorstep one year later, or that the wild attraction would still be there in full force.

Jamie isn't book boyfriend material, he's book husband material. He's charming, sweet, and knows exactly how to take care of everything Helen needs before she even knows she needs it. I like how he knows what he wants and isn't afraid to do whatever it takes to get it.

"I thought about it, okay? I wanted to call you. But I didn't want to be...presumptuous."

"Presumptuous? I thought we were past that."

"We spend one night together a year ago," she said quietly. "I didn't see you again until yesterday. So, yeah, I'm not sure what we are."

"We're dating. Remember? We went on a date last night."

She swiped her hand down the material covering her thigh. "That wasn't a date. That was a business meeting."

"Uh uh. No. You wouldn't let me pay. We agreed it was a date."

Love Me has a little action/suspense, a lot of please love me because I'm never giving up, and it's tied together with bouts of humor. It was a fast and captivating read. And now that I've met Helen's family, and instantly fell in love with all of them, I cannot wait to read all of their stories.

My Favorite Moment: Nothing like being a little medicated to clear the way for your heart to speak. Confessions come at the most surprising times.

This book was very short so everything was pretty compressed. It was definitely a love at first sight type book with sex very, very early in the relationship. There was a touch of suspense but not much and an introduction to the Donovan Family (although Helen being the Aunt was a bit weird since she is just a couple years older and I'm not sure why because it was a little confusing). Because the book was so short we didn't get a good introduction of the secondary characters who I'm assuming will be featured in later books but I do love a family of cops so hopefully that will be fleshed out in further books. I enjoyed this steamy, quick romance but I wanted more. However, for a a short intro book it did it's job and got me interested enough to check out the second book in the series.

I got it because Susan Elizabeth Phillips mentioned it on facebook and that it was available for free. I thought if I liked it then it would be a new romance novelist to check out.

I liked Jaime a lot. But I did not like Helen. The "barrier" from them getting together was so flimsy. The plot was so poorly written and predictable. The rest of the family seemed very one dimensional, and there wasn't enough of the family's history for me to like any of them.

One of the side characters names kept changing between Melanie and Melinda. At first, I thought I was wrong, but it literally happened on the same page. Bad editing.

Disappointing.

Love Me by Margaret Watson is a fabulous romantic suspense. This is a fairly quick read, perfect for those with limited reading time. Ms. Watson has delivered a book that is well-written and packed with an outstanding cast of characters. Helen is a lawyer that handles a lot of child custody cases. When a car drives into her office she is shocked when Jamie arrives to repair the building. Jamie owns his own construction company and is happily surprised to find his one-night-stand from a year ago works in the office he's contracted to fix. Helen and Jamie's story is loaded with drama, humor, action, sizzle and suspense. I enjoyed this book from cover to cover and look forward to reading more from Margaret Watson in the future. Love Me is book 1 of The Donovan Family Series but can easily be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.

I voluntarily read a complimentary copy of this book that I received from Bookfunnel. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This is the first book in the series—a short novella that introduces the courageous Donovan family.

After a horrific so-called car accident in her office, Helen, a domestic lawyer, is still trying to get her bearings and get back to her life. The thing is that now she has to re-build the mess in her office. Who would’ve thought that the contractor would end being her one-night stand from a year ago?

Jamie is the only one who’s ever been able to make Helen forget how responsible she has to be, especially when dealing with cases of family abuse. Now she’s working on helping a mother escape her crazy ex and get sole custody of the children. Could the ex-husband have had anything to do with the accident? And will he try again?

Enticing, sexy, and gripping!

Helen Brody had a one-night encounter with Jamie Evans a year ago, and even though they both knew it was something special, Helen couldn’t let it be anything more, or so she thought. One year later, when Helen needs help, Jamie comes back into her life, and this time he’s determined to stay.

This is a wonderful, fast-paced romance, but the journey is not easy. There’s plenty of drama and some suspense. The struggle between Helen and Jamie to find the love they both deserve is hard fought, but well worth it. The characters are strong, interesting, and passionate. The narrative flows effortlessly, and once you start, you will find it hard to put down. I highly recommend this engaging read!

A great book to introduce the Donovan series and I’m hooked.
Jamie and Helen had one night together and met again when Helen’s office is wrecked by a car driving into it.
Jamie is the contractor appointed to repair the office and they reconnect. Jamie had the patience of a saint as Helen continually tried to push him away.
It’s a love story but with the suspense of the man causing havoc and would he ever be caught.
The Donovan family are a protective bunch and love their aunt Helen to the point of trying to be over-protective but she knows how to handle them.
Jamie’s character is wonderfully kind and patient and everything Helen needs in her life.
I had a tear in my eye at the HEA.

‘Love Me’ was tension-filled. The fast-paced plot involved a car crash into a lawyer’s office, a blast from the past, a helpful contractor, learning the backstory to family life, developing a relationship, helping a client, having a big discussion, filing police reports, advocating for the client, oh no…a brief stay at the hospital, another major talk, and falling in love. Moreover, Helen and Jamie, the protagonists, were made for each other and gushed with chemistry. In addition, I appreciated the author’s vivid descriptions, which included imagery, figurative language, humor, and just the right word choices that created an engaging tone. Overall, I liked the riveting narrative.

A bit of a slow start to the short story but I found the ending decent. Maybe I just missed it but the author seemed to gloss over why Rose's husband isn't around. Maybe it'll be explained in other books in the series.

I just found the series starter in my library. So glad they don't have to be read in order because this is one hot series. Love the characters, the suspense, the strong female heroines. But especially the heat in the bedroom and the commitments made by the heroes.

Was okay but felt a certain immaturity to the female lead. Also felt that somethings were skimmed over. Wont buy any more by author as nit captivating enough.

“He stared at her for a long moment, his gaze lingering on her chest then drifting down to her legs.”

4 love me stars! What a great start to the series….I’m hooked!

Helen and Jamie shared a hot night together a year ago, and when Helen hires a contractor to repair her office, the last person she thought would walk into her office, would be Jaime, but there he is. Jamie never got over his night with Helen and now that fate has brought them back together, he refuses to let her get away yet again. Helen on the other hand isn’t so willing to start something with Jamie, even though they have insane chemistry. Can these two work out the kinks or are they destined for failure?

This was a quick and cute read! It totally captivated me as I read. You want Jamie to get the girl and he tries his hardest to do so! And I get Helen’s apprehension, but dang it, do it already!! I loved this start to the series and I’m excited to see what’s next!
