The perfect fairy tale deserves the perfect picture book. The world has royal fever--we just can’t get enough of Prince William and Kate Middleton. Millions of people around the globe tuned in to watch their wedding in spring 2011, and the recent announcement of a baby on the way sent the media into a frenzy of speculation. Now, readers can go back in time to see their story from the beginning – a story about a little boy named William who would grow up to be king, and a little girl named Catherine who dreamed of meeting a prince one day.
Follow Will and Kate through their childhood days, their grand wedding, their international travels… and (of course) the arrival of their royal baby. Based on a popular app from Ink Robin, with illustrations by Adam Larkum that bring both the English country-side and the streets of London to life, this delightful picture book will make readers young and old alike fall in love with everyone’s favorite royal couple all over again.
I loved the illustrative style in this book, but that did not make up for the fact that there was no story whatsoever. The title uses the word hard, which implies a struggle or some sort of conflict, but essentially this picture book is about Britain's current royal couple Prince William and Princess Kate. When William was a prince he longed for a princess and when Kate was a pretty girl she longed for a prince. They got together...the end. There is no complexity to the characters at all.
An enchanting "How did you meet?" love story involving Prince William and Catherine. The whimsical illustrations, including a cute corgi and naughty sheep, add an additional touch of fun to the storyline. A short, sweet tale...perfect for a quick bedtime read for the little princess - or prince - in your life. And I, as a Californian, learned something new about them between the pages (spoiler alert) involving a honeymoon in Hollywood! If you know of someone special holding a princess-themed birthday party, why not add this book to the gift pile?!
Maybe, just maybe I can understand the appeal of this book to a British audience, but why was it published in the United States? And the title, ugh. A real prince wasn't so hard to find for Kate Middleton - she met him when she was 19, and married him ten years later. That is sort of a long time, and perhaps he was hard to catch or hard to pin down or hard to choose to commit, but he still wasn't hard to find. This isn't my least favorite picture book of all time (that honor belongs to Sheetzucacapoopoo: My Kind of Dog). But it's thrown in the same bin.
Since this book is written about Prince William and Princess Kate, I thought it would be a really cute book to choose to read for my read aloud. The front and back inner coverings of the book have the same print which shows baby rattles and crowns in checkers separated by hearts. Very cutsey. The book has full covered pages that are very vibrant and eye catching. The story follows William and Kate through childhood, University, marriage, a party at his "grandmothers" house after, and then their sweet little bundle of joy.. Very easy to read, easily could get boys or girls attention.

The real life story of the friendhip, courtship, and marriage of Prince William and Princess Kate. "And after the wedding, William's grandmother threw a huge party at her house." What's not to love about that kind of understatement?
