Betrayal hurts worse at the hands of someone you love.

I locked my heart up the night my wife was murdered.

Now there is only one possessor of a key… my little girl.

And that’s how I thought it would stay.

Until my beautiful d’yavolitsa turns up covered in blood, begging for my help.

She caught me off guard, preyed on my weakness, and set free my caged heart.

Now she is mine to keep, cherish, and tear the world down for.

Little did I realize, loving this woman would be the end of everything as I know it.

The fate of our empire is in her hands.

The secrets she keeps will shatter us both.

Yet, not everything is always as it seems.

When every card is stacked against us, we’re forced to play on the same team.

In order to survive, we will burn together and unleash hell.

That’s if I decide to let her live.

What pissed me off the most about this book was the wasted potential. It had all the right ingredients to be amazing, but instead, we got this rushed disaster.

They met five minutes ago and somehow they’re in love? Be serious. Nothing had time to develop—no emotional build-up, no tension, nothing. Just vibes and bad decisions.

The FMC’s brother was being tortured, and yet she still had time to boink the MMC multiple times. Like… girl, priorities??

Also, the MMC brought a woman he just met into his home with his child there, and left them alone. That’s not romance, that’s reckless. I don’t care how hot someone is, that’s weird.

The FMC could’ve eaten, but the author left the plate untouched. She had so much potential to be complex, but it never went there. Everything was surface-level. When exactly did they fall in love? I missed it.

Aside from being one of the most disappointing books I’ve read in a while, I’ll give it this: I occasionally liked the FMC. But that’s where the compliments end.

I DNFed the first book I picked up from this author… but this one’s a single dad story, so we’ll see how it goes 👀

''The one that set me free.''

We met Nikolai in the previous book, but his FMC was a complete mystery. We got the gist of what life has been like for Nikolai, he is a widower after his wife is killed and he is also a father to his seven-year-old daughter.

His family (brother and sister) have all been victims of their father's evil mind growing up and now they are living in the States away from him to be free, but the ghosts and trauma still haunt each of them differently.

The FMC Mila (Melissa) is tasked to get something from Nikolai after being blackmailed and forced to accept.

Infiltrating his world and life needed a bit of planning and Mila is the perfect person to get this show on the road. She is fearless and badass. She has attributes you admire and fear. She will do anything for the ones she loves. She is sadly on a timer to get what she has been tasked to do and never imagined she would be falling for the big grumpy single father and his little girl which obviously puts a huge complication on her original plan.

We get to know Nikolai a little bit more and dive into his life before losing his wife and after. I was a bit afraid it would be a bit of an awkward mindset with him since he loved his wife and lost her tragically 5 years ago, but he was respectful towards his wife’s memories, but he also knew that he wanted Mila and there was no going back for him. I was also glad to see that Mila was not replacing his dead wife nor was she being compared to. What he ends up feeling for Mila was entirely new and its own thing.

Their chemistry was great, and their hate-love moments were gold.
There were a few reveals in this book that were left on a cliffhanger, and I am sure we will be getting conclusions to them in the rest of the series.

We also had some great funny moments with Alexei and his flamingo. I really want to read his book with Lara. There is a bit of mystery about Lara and what she is dealing with.

Mikhail and Enzo are both mysteries I want to read about and thankfully we will get their books in the future!

Legit finished in one sitting. The spice was funnnnn 🤭And the first couple of chapters really captured me!

I do think I liked the first one a little more but this was still a quick/ fun read. My only thing was I felt like the story was soooo quick. I wanted more hate in the beginning and then the ending just… ended. Still a fun read but I was just hoping for a bit more.

I really enjoyed this authors previous series and I was excited to get more from her, but unfortunately I can't say I've been in love with this series so far. With Caged, the story just felt very rushed and the insta-lust/love came a little too fast for me. I felt like Nikolai and Mila/Melissa were barely together for the first half and yet somehow ended up sooo in love with one another. I can't say I believed it.

More than that, I'm not someone that easily picks up on spelling or grammar mistakes because I'll just read a sentence the right way in mind even if that's now how it's typed out. Yet in this book there were more than a few mistakes that I easily picked up on and I think it's because they were just that prevalent. Even the fact that some chapters had song names and links, some only had the names, and some didn't have any at all. It was very inconsistent and again, made the book feel like it was rushed to be finished.

Overall, I'm still interested in these characters and I do think I'll give the other books a try.

This is the second book of her second series Beneath the Secrets and don’t get me wrong I loved Jax but DAYUM I love Nikolai even more !!!!!! Personally, I felt like they were both giving off Mr. & Mrs. Smith vibes 1000000% ! Just something about a single grumpy dad just does something to me 🙂‍↕️ ! Mila overall was just such a badsss and stabby fmc (WHICH I LOVE) and the way she loved Elena so freakin fiercely made my heart so full. For me the sunroof scene was hotttttt but THE ELEVATOR SCENE !? ARG ARG ARG ARG !! AND THE HATE SHHMEX ?!?!?! I was SAT ! I freaking LOVED the banter between Nik, Alexei, and Jax was just so damn funny ! Alexei was probably my favorite side character throughout the whole book 😂 I’m so excited for his book. Overall this was such a page turner for me I was at the edge of my damn seat half the time lol while the other half I was balling my eyes out LMAO !!!! Can’t wait for book 3 !!!!

“There’s a difference between being a good girl, and my good girl. You’ll soon learn that.”

I devoured this book in 24 hours it was SO good.
I love Luna’s writing, and the banter between all the MMC’s is just perfect. Alexei is hilarious and I cannot wait to see more of him in his book.

“Niki, we need to talk about your driving. I didn’t know I’d need my motorcycle helmet to ride. If you’re going to kill us, I just want to make sure my body is recognizable. This face deserves an open casket.” - Alexei

Also I love Mila, she’s just a fierce MMC and gave Nikolai a run for his money.

“Call me a good girl again and I’ll show you just how bad I can be for you, Mr. Volkov.” 🥵

“How can you hate someone so violently, yet love them so passionately at the same time?” 🔪

Also the cliffhanger with Lara??? Cannot wait to read Luna’s next book.

3.5⭐️ even tho the plot felt a bit rushed at times, i still found myself bored at multiple points. which is insane considering how much action was packed in. but yeah, i was just constantly struggling to pick it back up and continue reading at the end of the day.

there were plenty of things i liked; the relationship between Mila & Elena, the family dynamics between Niko & his siblings, and the Mr. and Mrs. Smith vibes throughout. but it ultimately felt like something was missing. i think it might just be a me problem considering how many people i’ve seen rant and rave about Luna Mason’s mafia books.

We get Nikolai’s story and it’s emotional and intense. He’s a widowed single dad with a traumatic past, trying to protect his daughter and stay one step ahead of his family’s dark legacy. Enter Mila who is bold, fearless, and secretly on a mission against him.

She didn’t plan to fall for the grumpy, guarded Nikolai or his sweet daughter, but feelings get messy fast. Their chemistry is hot, and their love-hate tension had me hooked. I loved how Mila wasn’t treated as a replacement for his late wife but their connection felt fresh and real. Maxine Mitchell and Sean Masters absolutely nailed the narration, bringing the emotion, tension, and banter to life perfectly. Their voices fit these characters so well.

Thank you, Luna Mason and Blue Nose Audio for the review opportunity.

I was really excited for Nikolai’s book but unfortunately a few things let me down.

You can’t tell me that Nikolai didn’t figure her out earlier. There were signs and he completely ignored them. Even Lara noticed yet he didn’t think it was a big deal. I do also think it was a bit odd that Nikolai welcomed a complete stranger into his home especially to his daughter.

However I loved the relationship between Mila and Elena. Elena needed a mother figure and she got that love with Mila. Their moments together were so heartwarming and cute.

We love a strong FMC so I really liked Mila. I think with Mila being a spy it could’ve been executed better since half of the book had her lying to Nikolai.

What happened to Ivan? I don’t think we saw a closure for that so he’ll be popping up again. I think I expected more considering the love around this book. I didn’t love it yet i didn’t hate it I just think it could’ve been a bit better.

I still really liked this book I just wish I loved it more. The ending was very cute and wrapped it up nice for their little family 🥹

The cliffhanger has made me excited for the next book. Bring on Alexei and Lara ❤️

ALC review!! Maxine Mitchell & Sean Masters were phenomenal!! The chemistry was perfection!!

I loved the narration for this one, but I still loved the first book and story more!

Single Dad, Mafia, and Enemies to lovers. This one was good!! I absolutely love a bada** FMC and Mila was just that! I definitely think the plot for this was a little less exciting than the first, but I still really enjoyed this one!!

Elena was the cutest ever and I loved the relationship she formed with Mila.
Now daddy Nikolai 😩 he was just perfect.

Mila and Nikolai were freaking amazing. Mila was a total bada** and I loved her. She was an amazing FMC - ready to do literally anything for her family. Nikolai was the exact same way but their history (unbeknownst to them) put them on opposite ends of that touch them and 💀. I loved how the story played out and can’t wait to see what happens next!! As always, check for TWs and happy reading!

"We fall, we rise, and then we unleash hell on all of them...together."

Ms. Mason has done it again with her brilliant mafia writing mind. Nikolai and Mila had such a fantastic story. I have been anticipating how she would make this hard as stone man fall in love again and believe me when I say Mila is the perfect other half for him.

Going into this I knew Nikolai really only has a soft spot for his loved ones, which is a very short list. His heart is so hardened after what life has dealt him and then his eyes land on Mila. His feeling of needing to protect her shows how good of a man he actually is and even when things go horribly wrong and he shouldn't want to be near her, he still cannot stop himself. I mean he lets her call him Niki!

Mila ends up caught between a rock and a hard place when it comes to Nikolai and his daughter, Elena. She needs to save her own loved one but does everything in her power to keep Niki out of the line of fire. She is selfless in every possible way...gives up the man she loves in order to get her brother to safety knowing the entire time she has made a deal with two devils and one of them will end her. Her love doesn't stop at Nikolai though, she immediately has a connection with Elena and that little girl owns a piece of Mila's heart.

The first half of this book sets up perfectly for the last half of the book. A little bit more background is found out about Nikolai but there is still so much I want to know about their family. I loved seeing that hard as granite shell around his heart start to disintegrate the more he was around Mila. Although circumstances were awful she came into his life just when he needed her most. She will fight until her last breath right beside him. He will take care of her like she deserves and lived her life without...until him.

********AUDIO REVIEW********

I loved Caged when I read it but now, after hearing it...I LOVE it even more. Both Maxine Mitchell and Sean Masters give excellent performances as Nikolai and Mila. I was not expecting the Russian accents which enhanced the listening experience for me.

I wonder if there is a role Ms. Mitchell cannot do, seriously she is absolutely wonderful at all the character types and Mila was no exception.

Sean masters is a new to me narrator and I could not get enough of his chapters. His tone is chef's kiss for how I imagined Nikolai sounding. The scenes he has to do Elena's voice were priceless. I will definitely be checking out more of his audios.

I am baffled by the amount of good reviews this book has. Either they’re paid for or you’re all punking me. One star is too generous for this book.

This was one of the most forgettable books I’ve ever read. Nothing happened yet everything happened in the span of a singular sentence. There was no build up to anything and then there was actually no action either, everything was rushed and it was just boring.

There was absolutely no chemistry whatsoever yet I’m supposed to believe they’re so in love they would kill/die for each other. Bore off.

She had no concern for her brother’s wellbeing and was dragging her feet while he was losing body parts yet she was going through this for him. Also what the hell was the timing? It felt like a week but they acted like it was months. He thought about his dead wife, the supposed love of his life for about ten seconds before he shacked up with the woman he just met and let her around his child. Awful parenting by the way.

The writing was just weak.

Honestly how did you guys rate it so high???

I really enjoyed it. The beginning was amazing. I loved it. I was entertained then we got to the spice and I was loving that even more. Then all of a sudden things just felt rushed some, and that made me almost not want to finish it.

The overall story was so amazing! I think this book could have been a little bit longer to get the full understanding of their relationship and the entire plot of what was happening.

The very last bit of this book was absolutely insane and that makes me want to read the next one even more now. I definitely thought there’s gonna be a lot more spice in this book considering all of the other books and the other series. Overall did enjoy the book , but I think since we started with chaos and that one really had my heart this one almost broke it a little bit
