Coming home to find out my ex is my new roommate is a nightmare…especially when I’ve been pretending to hate her for years.

Harper Davidson has been ingrained on my heart since we were kids, and now she’s tattooed on my skin. But she’ll never know about either. Not when she’s better off thinking we’re enemies.

Having her in my space every day and sharing a wall with her every night is a challenge I never saw coming. A challenge I’m not sure I’m up to.

Especially when our daytime games turn into nighttime dares, pushing each other to the breaking point until our neighbors know exactly who’s making her scream.

As lines blur and feelings deepen, we begin teetering on the edge of something more. And it's becoming harder to pretend that this is nothing—that she is nothing.

Because this second chance is starting to feel like a last chance.

It’s always been her for me, but I’m broken beyond repair and don’t know how to be the man she needs. These demons in my closet are never silent, and I’ll do anything to keep them from dragging her down with me.

Even if that means letting her go again.

When she’s not lost in her own made up worlds, she’s probably either reading or shopping—maybe even both at once. She lives in the Midwest with her real life hero of a husband, her two kids—both taller than her—and her dog who thinks she’s a queen. This is what the "It's always been you" micro-trope in second chance romance is meant to be or should've been portrayed, at least to me.

====================================

This was okay, I guess. I didn't have high hopes for this because second-chance romance is more often a miss for me, but I still try sometimes. Safety-wise, this is really freaking good because Levi (30) and Harper (30) have been each other's first and ONLY. They were hurting and angry about their breakup, yet they never looked at other people and remained faithful throughout their 12-year separation.

While I do celebrate that win and rare occurence in a second chance romance, I didn't really get invested in the story, probably because they only talked about their past at the 70% mark, and after that, they just got back together in a flash and went from 0-100. And, idk, I feel like they should let a few days pass to think things through because there's been a lot of change in more than a decade. They were different people from when they were 18 now that they're 30.

I thought that somehow they would grow into more mature adults who could discuss things that they had never talked about before. But the first 70% of the story was all about them thinking how they're still physically attracted to one another and having x-rated thoughts in their minds. Playing petty games to rile each other and realizing that their chemistry is still through the roof and has never waned, even though years have passed. And, tbh, this kind of thinking and antics got repetitive and tiresome to read along the way. 🥲

Then, when they got back together, it was all about domesticity, intimacy, and Levi's bonding with his siblings. He only opened up about his thoughts almost at the last 10% of the book; he's a tough nut to crack, that's for sure. I know that navigating personal issues is different for everyone. And even though this is fiction, I didn't expect him to magically get over his demons in a span of weeks, because that's ridiculous even for me. But in my head, I wanted him to include Harper in his personal journey to healing, preferably before the 90% mark. This is way too little, too late for me, tbh.

It's probably hard for him to speak his mind because he's been so used to being alone and keeping it all inside of him. Yet for some reason, I hoped that with Harper finally by his side, he would learn to lean on her and eventually share his feelings with her. How come he didn't open up a little sooner? It's not too much to ask, right? 🤔

Then the reason for their breakup was flimsy at best in the eyes of their 30-year-old selves. They were caught getting sneaky at the back of a car, and they were taken to the police station. Harper's dad came and reamed her out in front of everyone, and Levi heard all of it. It made him doubt himself about whether he was good for her or if her dad was right that he wouldn't amount to anything. The latter won, so he ended up breaking things off with her (to let her fly as per his POV). I really hate this as the reason for the MCs separation. Harper's her own person, and she could decide for herself. Why Levi thinks he has to do that for her and for them is so beyond me, but whatever, now I'm getting annoyed. 😒

Anyway, like I said in the beginning, they got back together so easily and quickly. They didn't put up a fight and just admitted the fact that it has always been the other for them ever since. Then Levi finally opened up to those people he cared about, and he started going to therapy to better himself because he and the people he loved deserved it.

Anyhoo, it's not really bad, but this is not the best in this series for me. But I did enjoy reading the glimpses of each couple's lives years later in the bonus epilogue.

I've been obsessed with the Starlight Cove series from the start, so I knew this final book would be a mix of emotions. Levi’s book had the usual funny moments, especially with Mabel’s antics and the McKenzie siblings' group texts, but it also got pretty emotional. It tackled sensitive topics and brought me to tears multiple times.

Levi and Harper’s story is the ultimate enemies-turned-lovers, second-chance romance. The angst, tension, and heartache mixed with love and hope were perfect. I finally learned what happened between them, and their journey back to each other was heart-wrenching and beautiful.

The family dynamic between Levi and his siblings was a highlight. They supported Levi through everything, and the beach scene was especially powerful and emotional. The mental health representation was handled sensitively and well.

Overall, this book was a perfect end to the series. It had me laughing, crying, and cheering all at once, and I couldn’t put it down.

🎧🎧AUDIO REVIEW🎧🎧 SEPTEMBER 2024

I already loved this story going into the audiobook but there’s a thing that happens sometimes where the audio just blows my mind (it can also happen and has happened in reverse) so of course I had to see if Levi’s story would do one or the other. I also, of course, took advantage of the fact that I own all Starlight Cove stories in audio and had myself a little binge … for the second time *shrug*

I know audiobooks are a huge investment, but listen, start squirreling your pennies right now because listening to not just Rebel Heart, but the entire series, is an emotional tsunami of epic proportions. It’s a tsunami of laughter and tears; of hope and heart; of family, love, blessings, and every other emotion you can think of. I can say with 100% certainty that the best experience is going to be listening. I don’t say that often, but maaannnn did this cast do a phenomenal job! ALL OF THEM!!

I know my focus should be on Rebel Heart but there’s no way you can read this series without starting from the very beginning. I’m not gonna get into the why of it cuz I’m sure I already have many times in previous books, but you have to trust me.

👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻HUGE round of applause to Brighton Walsh, Zachary Johnson & Lucy Rivers!👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

📚📚BOOK REVIEW📚📚 JUNE 2024
This is my favorite series of Brighton’s to date! But, shssss, don’t tell the others :) Not only is this my favorite series, but the stories grew exponentially in their greatness. It is a binge-worthy series for sure, which I have actually done twice now with the audiobooks, but I couldn’t do it for this release because I was not as prepared and organized with my time as I should have been. Anywho, the audiobook isn’t even in production yet so BOO on that Brighton, but let’s move on.

This is a big story. It doesn’t just mark the end of a series, but it also closes the *family arc* that has been woven thru all the books. AND, let’s face it, we all knew Levi was going to hurt, so there’s that! All of this was executed flawlessly. Was it a bit too introspective for me? Yeah, at times. But that’s what this story needed so I’m good with it. I prefer my stories to be a lot more conversational and more often than not, it wouldn’t work well for me at this level, but this story just needed it. You’ll have to read it to find out why!

I have to tell you guys something. This is not a standalone. #fightme. I cannot tell you the why of it all because, spoilers, but you must TRUST ME. That’s it on that.

Levi & Harper are going to shred your heart but also put it back together. They will frustrate you and make you laugh all at the same time. Levi is gonna get you all hot and bothered just by talking *wink* and together with Harper they are 🔥fire🔥!! The story is poignant, angst-driven, and fully satisfying, especially if you’ve been on this ride since the beginning. I couldn’t have asked for a better story for not just Levi, but also for the family round-up :) Well done!

4.5 ⭐️ - eARC review

This was such a heartwarming end to the Starlight Cove series. I love Brighton’s writing; it’s the perfect combination of banter, plot, heart and delicious spice.

Levi and Harper are childhood friends and after a tumultuous breakup as teenagers, they’ve spent over 10 years apart. Harper returns to Starlight Cove for a work assignment and they find themselves as temporary roommates. The barbs start, the energy flickers and their chemistry explodes and picks up where they left off.

I really loved both Harper and Levi. Despite them both having a heartbreaking and messy past and being riddled with trauma, they were never able to let each other go. There were so many points I just wanted to give them both big cuddles.

I’m not a big lover of second chance romances, but Brighton wrote this one really well and was able to showcase the feelings, trauma, heartbreak and healing in such a beautiful way. Both Levi and Harper fought so hard for each other, there was really nothing they wouldn’t do for each other. The boat, the tattoos. Ugh, this book was filled with so many special moments!

I really enjoyed this book, and this series! It’s filled with heart, banter, family and spice and I highly recommend!

Thank you to The Author Agency and Brighton for the advanced copy!

I have loved this series from the beginning and I have been eagerly waiting for these two to get together.

I loved Levi and Harper. They have such a history and it's fantastic to read them ever so slowly find the way back to each other. As always, it's always fun seeing the entire family, especially now that they're all paired up.

Plot wise, there's a lot to unpack here...like a lot. And with that came a lot of inner monologue and working through hurt. I will say that Brighton really ties it all up and even though I could have done with a million more pages of an epilogue, it's because I'll greedy and don't want this series to be done.

Overall, this series has been a favorite of mine and I can't wait to binge read them.

**Huge thanks to Brighton for spoiling me with this early copy**

Why are all my favorite series ending? Saying goodbye to the McKenzies is going to be tough, and Levi’s story was as emotional as it gets.

📕 𝗕𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗜𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Rebel Heart by Brighton Walsh

📙 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀: starlight Cove character series. Book 6.

📗 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗗𝗲𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗹𝘀: ARC on Kindle. 🆓 on KU.

📘 𝗚𝗲𝗻𝗿𝗲: Small town romance

📔 𝗧𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝘀: Second chance, he’s loved her all along, lovers-to-enemies-to-lovers, forced proximity, no third-act breakup.

📖 𝗦𝘆𝗻𝗼𝗽𝘀𝗶𝘀: Harper returns to Starlight Cove for a magazine article, but the only place to stay is with her ex - the surly, angry Levi who broke her heart o er an decade ago.

🌟 𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄: I fell in love with this series from the start, and it was such a joy and comfort to read. Every story stood on its own, but the finale brought everything together and made my heart crack a little.

Levi was always the brooding brother… so his love with Harper is VERY hard fought. It takes awhile for him to crack. I loved reading it, even though his story was probably the angstiest of the series.

As usual, you get the most epic dirty talk and spice… combined with some truly swoony romance. Obviously I’ll be waiting on bated breath for whatever Brighton Walsh releases next, but leaving this world is super bittersweet.

𝗥𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴: 4.5/5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐

𝗦𝗽𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗟𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹: 3.5/5 🌶🌶🌶

📝 𝗔 𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗰𝗸 𝗻𝗼𝘁𝗲… You can start anywhere in this series and read it like a standalone… except this book. Highly recommend starting from the beginning, but the true storyline will be much better if you have context from the other books.

Perfect end to a wonderful series
5 stars

This is the fifth and final book in the Starlight Cove series, the one that’s been teased throughout and the one I’ve been waiting for with ill disguised anticipation. We finally get to find out why childhood best friends, Levi and Harper, are now little more than enemies and why Levi can’t even stand to be in the same room as Harper. I’ve already read the book and I’m getting re-giddy thinking about it again. But regular caveat - this book definitely stands alone and come with its own happily ever after. Of course it’s got major cameos from the rest of the Mackenzie clan and their significant others - but you don’t need any prior knowledge to read and adore this story.

So onto Levi and Harper…

Due to the meddling of a horny little granny, Levi finds his apartment invaded by his one-time childhood friend, and ex-girlfriend Harper. It’s just for 6 weeks while Harper writes an article for the travel magazine she works for - but neither are happy or amused at the situation or being in such close proximity to the other.

The reason for their antipathy quickly becomes clear as we find out Levi’s inner most thoughts. There are definitely some valid trigger warnings with this book - particularly in relation to Levi. With that said, I suffer in much the same way as Levi and while the first chapter did hit quite hard, it definitely eased off as we move through the book as Levi starts to focus on his relationship with Harper. But for those worried, the mental health issues are dealt with realistically, sympathetically and honestly.

Levi is obviously shaped by his issues but aside from that he’s a decent, loyal and likeable guy. Grumpy, sure, but he’s such a smitten kitten for Harper that I almost can’t bear how cute it was! Despite being all in for Harper, he tries so damn hard to resist her. He’s rubbish at doing so, but it was so delightful to watch.

Harper was my ideal type of heroine. She’s smart, sassy, honest and determined; a real independent woman - even if she’s a bit of a lone wolf. As well as her relationship with Levi, I adored watching her find her roots in Starlight Cove and finding out that she belonged there.

The chemistry in this book sizzled even if it wasn’t as ‘throw you up against the wall / fuck it’ as I expected it to be. But there was a lot of teasing and squirming and generally getting me all hot and bothered before, thankfully - thankfully - they get together.

All round, this is a story that makes you all squidgy, happy and oh so satisfied. I’m equal parts joyous and bereft that we’ve come to the end of the Starlight Cove series but I’ve loved every minute of getting to know this wonderful family in this adorable town. And I’m very much hoping that the four brothers that Harper was trying to interview for her article might just be the teasing of a very new series set in Starlight Cove. A girl can hope. But this is an excellent book, eminently readable and with all the sexiness, smuttiness, heart and romance that you’d expect from Brighton Walsh. Easily 5 stars.

Rebel Heart by Brighton Walsh was perhaps one of the most heartbreaking and heart-mending books I’ve read recently. And I mean that in the best possible sense. 💕

Levi and Harper are childhood best friends turned teenage loves who have spent the last decade apart after a crushing break-up. In that time, they’ve both faced tremendous heartbreak and trauma. When they are forced together as unlikely temporary roommates when Harper returns to town for an assignment (she’s a journalist now), that’s when our story picks up and proverbial sparks fly.

This was the first book of Brighton’s I’ve ever read (and was excited to do so as an ARC). I’m so glad I had the chance because I loved the hell out of this beautiful book. From mutual disdain hiding long-buried, gut-wrenching affection to finding neutral ground with much trepidation, Levi and Harper’s journey to renewed love was hard fought. It was also full of some of the hottest spicy moments I’ve read in recent memory. Oof! 🥵

But it is so much more than that. It’s truly a gut punch several times over watching them deal with their feelings, and demons, and heartbreak. I cried more than a few times, especially as it related to Levi’s mom. I also laughed as many times as it related to meddling Mabel and her weed cookies. 😂

This is a beautiful, unique second chance romance full of spice and heart and longing and family. It’s riveting from the jump and I cannot wait to go back and read other books in this series now!

This is a gorgeous story. Romance, yes, spicy spice, yes, beautiful sadness, also yes. Love when a story grabs you by the heart.

The depth of emotion in this is multi level but the first thing that got me was that the best and saddest part of a second chance romance is the realisation of all they’ve lost over time. This second chance story is no exception and it got me all teary.

The second part is Levi’s pain, family bonds, being strong for your love, all of that - I was crying probably the last 20% of the book or so, right to the end. I enjoy a book that has that exploration of love amongst pain and healing. Fabulous.

Don’t get me wrong though, there’s also the lovey make-your-heart-warm stuff, a bit of sassy humour, and very hot spice - sometimes multiple chapters in a row! 🥵 👌🏻 including the best game of sexual chicken I’ve seen in a long while! 😂

I have such a come-here-to-me-and-let-me-hug-you protective streak over sad/broken MMCs in romance novels. Levi set that off big time so if you’re into that like I am, this is definitely one for you! Harper is also a great character and I tend to identify with her quite a bit - the independence but isolation but then strong. It’s great.

Excellent read - I think this one is tied with Fearless Heart in the series for me. I like them both so much for completely different reasons.

Great book, great series - highly recommend. 5/5 ⭐️- check it out!

I received an advanced copy of the book (but would have bought it anyway!) and am leaving an honest review.

I couldn’t have asked for a better ending for this series honestly.

Our sad, hard and grumpy man Levi ugh him and Harper made me FEEL so much. This book had the perfect pace for their story to unfold. This book does deal heavily deal with grief so be aware of that.

The tension, banter, swoony moments and the SPICE eeekkkkk. I couldn’t get enough honestly. Harper leveled him out so well!

I’m sad as hell this series is ending but I can’t wait to to see what’s in store for Brighton next!

• Spice – plenty
• Enemies to lovers
• I really loved the characters of Harper and Levi
• Secrets & inner turmoil

I recommend this book and series. Have some tissues handy.

"My sparrow had always been meant to fly, and I wasn't going to clip her wings now." ~ Rebel Heart by Brighton Walsh

ARC REVIEW:
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

This book tore my heart apart and put it back together.❤️‍🩹 Rebel Heart made me laugh and cry. My heart physically ached for Harper and especially Levi.🥹

They are childhood best friends and first loves who broke up in their late teens and haven't spoken in over a decade!

Levi Mackenzie is your NEXT BOOK BOYFRIEND! His grumpy, bad-boy charm hooked me from the first chapter. The more you realize how deeply he loves Harper, the more you love him.🥹 He fixes and builds boats, and even reads 🌶️ books! 🖤⚓️💚

Harper is a curvy & hardworking travel journalist who won't settle for less than the best. She loves cautiously and believes she can only trust herself, no one else. 🩵🦋🤍

Brighton Walsh wrote their relationship beautifully. This was my first book by her and I WAS NOT DISAPPOINTED! Levi and Harper are one of my FAVORITE couples now - which says a lot!🥰 The tattoos, cookies, and banter was just everything I wanted and more!!😌 Levi and Harper's relationship highlights that it is the little things that make a difference! 🦋 Rebel Heart also addresses mental health and trauma, showing the reality of grief and self-blame. I'm so glad that it was shown truthfully and in such a beautiful way.✨

I COULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS BOOK ENOUGH!! They're my roman empire... I might just have to read the rest of the series!😉

Emojis that best describe this book:
️🌊⛵️⛈️🍪🍝⚓️🎡📖✍🏼❤️‍🩹🧭🍑

You'll love this book if:
• You love Childhood friends/First Love👫🏼
• You love Enemies to lovers (but he's always been in love with her🙊)
• You love a good "f*ck it" moment🤪
• YOU LOVE NO THIRD ACT BREAKUPS👩🏼‍❤️‍💋‍👨🏻
• You love found families🫶🏼
• You love a dirty talking MMC😉
• You love mental health/trauma rep in books❤️‍🩹
• You love when he falls first and hardest🥹

Thank you so much to Brighton Walsh and The Author Agency for this ARC and allowing me to review it!! This was my first ARC and I couldn't have been more happy that it was Rebel Heart!🖤💚

Make sure to put Rebel Heart on your TBR! It comes out on July 1st!🤪

Talk about an emotional rollercoaster!!!
Levi and Harper: friends to lovers to enemies to lovers. Gotta love it.
There is so much to say about this book, but I can’t, I don’t want to give any spoilers away. But is really good. The author did save the best for last.
Never could I have thought that was Levi, the things he did/does, with all the right intentions, but not always with the best reason. I am so happy they eventually found their way to each other again, even with how stubborn they can be. And once they do come back together, it’s time to let all those secrets out. And some are quite surprising.
I loved this book, it has become my favorite in this series.

My sweet broken, angry boy. Brighton you saved the angstiest for the last. Levi was such a mystery from book 1. I wanted to know more about the boy who sulked in the booths at family meetings. And what we got was more than I could have imagined

“He was all confidence and swagger, his presence taking up far more space than his body did. And I couldn’t deny how attractive I found it. How attractive I found him.”

But let’s also talk about Harper. When she would make appearances, I just knew something monumental happened between her and Levi. But there wasn’t. It was just Levi being the knight in shining armor he didn’t necessarily need to be. Yet I understood why these two suffered for the last twelve years

“Though more than a decade has passed since we’d been together and she’d changed by leaps and bounds, she was still the most beautiful woman I’d ever laid eyes on.”

These two together were hot and broken. Not a good combo, but that’s exactly what they were. The secrets that finally came out had me in tears. And Levi’s tattoos 😭 When Levi finally broke 😭 What an epic ending to this series

Thank you so much Brighton for the early e-arc 🌟

Harper and Levi + second chance romance!! 😚💕

They really were so sweet, seeing their relationship grow after 12 yrs of being away was so special 👏

The way they SHOWED that it’s truly in the small things that someone’s absence shows. I’m so glad that they were able to grow together.

The tattoos, the cookies, the hurt/comfort scenes!! Literally straight up ate without leaving any crumbs.

The ending was so sweet, I am so incredibly happy that Levi’s trauma wasn’t dismissed or pushed to the side. This man was truly hurting and I am so glad he got the help and support he needed 🤍

I loved seeing Chase and Addison again, forever my favs!! 🥰

Hope you guys enjoy this book as much as me!

ALC UPDATE: it was so nice to be back in Starlight Cove in my ears. Zachary Johnson + Lucy Rivers did a phenomenal job of bringing Levi + Harper to life, and with the deeper content and emotions in this one, that wasn’t an easy thing to do. The beach scene was especially moving.

eARC REVIEW: Brighton found the perfect way to close out the McKenzie family's stories in the last installment of the Starlight Cove series with Rebel Heart. This is the 6th and final book, which yes, you could just jump right in and be fine, but you already know what my recommendation will be about books 1-5 😉

Harper is one of those FMC's you love to love. She is strong, fearless, hardworking, and independent AF.
She had a privileged upbringing, but when confronted with a choice, she took the hard road when most would've taken the easy one.

Levi is the quiet, strong, resilient MMC who cares for and loves everyone more than anyone even realizes.
He struggles with events from the past and tries to manage the guilt and anguish that comes from that.
He is constantly putting others ahead of his own wants and needs.

Harper + Levi together are pure perfection. Their connection from being childhood best friends hasn't waned even though 12 years separate the last time they were together in that sense. And even though they still remembered that camaraderie so much LIFE has happened since that they have so many new things to learn about the other...

I loved this series SO much! But before we say goodbye, we can't forget to sing out one special townsperson's praises, and that would be Mabel. We can all hope to be that open and carefree in our old age! 🍪

Tropes:

Childhood Friends/First Love
Enemies to Lovers (but he’s actually been in love the whole time)

Grab your tissues and your fans because you’ll need both! The book hangover this game me was the best one.

Book 6 apart of an interconnected stand alone series, Starlight Cove. You do not have to read in order. Our FMC is Harper and MMC and Levi.

The emotional roller coaster we go on with Levi and Harper is so well written. Both are struggling with the past where they were childhood best friends who became more only to end up enemies. They hadn’t seen each other in 10 years.

Harper comes back to Starlight cove on an assignment. needing a place to stay she ends up becoming roommates with none other than the one man she never wanted to see again.

The spice was spicing once both finally cracked. The f**k it moment 🥵

You’ll love all the cameos from the Mackenzie siblings. It was a beautiful ending to this series!

ALC Review:

Zachary Johnson and Lucy Rivers absolutely nailed this as Levi and Harper. I always listen to audio books on my drives and let me tell you, this audio made me want to find a further destination! The spicy scenes were 🔥🔥
The emotion in their voices is exactly how I imagined when I read this book originally.

Thank you so much for the ARC! My review is my own and honest.

After a long ten years, Harper has returned to her hometown of Starlight Cove for a work assignment . The years away were rough but the pain of Harper and Levi’s breakup still stings like it was yesterday .. but that’s what happens when you lose your best friend . Now being forced as temporary roommates, it’s only so long before the sparks of their chemistry ignite with hot intense the heat is . But will the two of them be able to let go of their past to have the future they deserve with each other ?

“Harper had always been an addiction, and that hadn’t waned at all in our years apart. She was going to be my goddamn downfall, and she didn't even know it.” —Levi McKenzie

4.5🌟

gasping choking screaming squeaking wheezing sobbing screaming crying throwing up

asjdjkhaf Whoa. Well. This was the PERFECT way to wrap up the series. I don’t know what kind of magic Brighton Walsh is working, but each book just keeps getting better all the way to the final installment. I’ve been so emotionally invested in Starlight Cove from the start. And now? I’m supposed to say goodbye to this world? To these characters? Be serious. I’m not okay. 😭💔

Rebel Heart is the final emotional gut punch in the Starlight Cove series, and it delivers. Levi and Harper’s story is the ultimate slow-burn, hate-to-love, second-chance romance, packed with trauma, tension, and tenderness. Childhood friends turned to lovers to heartbreak survivors only to get back to lover for the second time, they’ve spent over a decade apart after a messy breakup. Now they’re forced into close quarters as temporary roommates. And the chemistry was immediate. The tension was explosive. The banter was unrelenting.

Levi and Harper were volatile, magnetic, and emotionally wrecking. Their chemistry simmers with a decade of unresolved tension, and their banter were sharp, loaded, and laced with heartbreak that had me feral. Every moment of their journey back to each other is hard-fought and beautifully messy. From mutual disdain to soul-baring honesty, they navigate grief, guilt, and years of what-ifs with raw vulnerability. Levi’s emotional repression finally cracks open as he mourns his mom and the time he lost with Harper. And Harper, cutting ties with her parents just to choose Levi, only to learn he chose for her, not with her? I sobbed. The boat, the tattoos., the beach scene. The group texts. The weed cookies. It’s all there, and it hurts in the best way. Together, they shred your heart and stitch it back together. I was emotionally obliterated in the best wat possible. 🥹

Normally, I don’t cry—like actually totally utterly cry CRY—while reading romance. But this book wrecked that streak in the best way. I sobbed through Levi’s grief, his heartbreak, his breakdown. And Harper? Watching him unravel and crying for him had me crying with her. The love they have for each other is so deep, so raw, it hurts. And the love I have for them? It’s painful in the most beautiful way. 🥺

This book doesn’t just wrap up a romance, it closes the McKenzie family arc with warmth, chaos, and love. The sibling dynamics are peak found-family energy, and Mabel’s meddling remains iconic. The mental health rep is handled with care, and the emotional payoff is immense. Brighton Walsh blends banter, spice, and heart like no one else, and this finale proves it. I laughed. I cried. I wheezed. I wanted a million more pages. Rebel Heart is a tsunami of feelings and the perfect farewell to a series that’s been comfort, chaos, and catharsis from the start. 🥺🥹😭🫶🏻💓

Along with it, huge kudos to Zachary Johnson and Lucy Rivers for nailing this duet narration. For bringing Levi and Harper to life with simmering tension and emotional grit. His smooth restraint. Her aching vulnerability. Together, they're a pairing I genuinely enjoy—and one I’ll be looking out for again. Their voices carried the heartbreak, the heat, and the healing with solid chemistry and emotional weight.

Overall, I devoured this entire series with zero regrets. Every messy, swoony, emotionally chaotic second was pure gold. Each couple brought their own flavor of tension and charm, and it was so worth the ride. 🩵🩷💜💛🧡💚

And yes, while each book can be read as a standalone, I’m begging you to read it sequentially. Sure, you could hop from book three to five, then backtrack to two and one, or whatever order you want, but please, please, save book six for last. Or PLEASE, heed my request, and read it sequentially!!!

The found-family threads woven throughout are priceless, and the emotional payoff hits harder when you’ve been there from the beginning. If small-town steam, sibling chaos, and emotionally feral romance are your thing, this series is the perfect choice. 🏖️🌊⛵☀️❤️‍🔥

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
HEA: HEA

TWs: alcoholism and recovery, anaphylaxis, classism, death of a parent (recounted in detail), depression, drug use, emotional abuse by a parent, grief, parental abandonment, suicidal ideation and intrusive thoughts

final thoughts: WHEW the angst in this book was off the charts. The arguing, the reluctant pining, the meddling members of the small town- such a great read.
The secret tattoos had me tearing up from reading about them in the blurb to learning about their details. This broken boy MMC Levi felt like he deserved nothing but when hidden secrets are finally revealed he gets everything he’s ever hoped for.

Rebel Heart was a deliciously spicy and emotional second chance romance. I had been highly anticipating Levi and Harper’s romance after that cliffhanger in Possessive Heart, and let me say that the wait was so worth it. Harper is back in Starlight Cove, 10 years after Levi broke her heart and determined to get her story, land her dream journalist job, and get out. But things don’t always go the way we want, right? Levi and Harper’s story was a rollercoaster as old hurts flourished while they fought against their undeniable chemistry.

Harper Davidson was all grown up and not the naïve girl Levi befriended all those years ago. I admired her tenacity and her determination not to stand down. She hit Levi like a hurricane, and I laughed out loud as they went toe-to-toe pushing each other’s buttons and getting under each other’s skins. Harper was a mover and a shaker, and I respected all she had accomplished and gave up to get where she was.

Levi McKenzie was somewhat of a lone wolf having distanced himself from his loved ones as penance for a tragedy that he has blamed on himself. He was a bit broken and reading his sometimes-dark thoughts had my heart breaking for him. Levi’s journey was emotional and heart-wrenching, and I just wanted to give him a hug. I loved the way he cared for Harper despite trying to keep her at arm’s length, but he couldn’t deny that she was exactly what he needed.

I loved all the tension between Levi and Harper. As their memories collided with their present, it was wonderful to see them finally come together like 10 years hadn’t passed by. Their connection was explosive, and the spice got hotter each time they got down and dirty. And uuuffff, Levi had the dirtiest mouth that I wasn’t expecting. No sweet childhood friends to lovers’ reunion here. The sibling banter was top notch, and I couldn’t get enough of their group chats.

If you’re looking for a spicy, second chance romance with a small-town setting and quirky side characters, Rebel Heart delivers and then some.

(tl;dr at the bottom for anyone who doesn’t want the full review)

I have read and loved each of the five previous Starlight Cove books, so when I first caught wind of the final book coming soon, I knew the chances of loving this one were pretty high.

Unsurprisingly, I loved it. Rebel Heart had everything I expect from Brighton: snarky banter, a bit of tension, fantastic spice, some interference from Mabel, and a heartwarming HEA.

What I didn’t expect was to end up sitting in my living room at 6am, in tears because this book hit things close to my heart.

One of the things I love about Brighton’s books is that she does her research, and she does it well. So when I found out that one of the recurring topics of this one would be SI, I was excited to see how it would play out. What she created is a character whose broken thoughts felt so familiar, I couldn’t help but fall in love with him.

I was almost caught off guard more than once at the accuracy of Levi’s thoughts, having struggled myself. I also know that some people will probably be unhappy about how much progress he makes on his mental health. The events of the book take place over less than a year, and Levi had been struggling with this for more than a decade. It would have been super unrealistic if he was magically better by the end, and I really appreciate that that’s not the direction she went.

On top of all the things I loved about Harper (and there really is a lot), the fact that she was ok with the times that he needed to not talk, was perfect. Everyone deserves that person.

Overall, this book will stick with me for a long time, and I can’t wait to get a physical copy in my hands. Thank you Brighton, for writing such wonderful characters. And for giving us someplace like Starlight Cove to escape to.

✨Tldr: absolutely read this book if you like small town romances with banter, spice and a HEA. Be aware of potential triggers because your mental health is important 🫶🏼

And just like that our journey through Starlight Cove with the McKenzie sibs is over😭……for now it seems.
I knew from the beginning that Levi was going to be the sad boi of the group, but man I don’t think I knew just how sad he was going to end up being and he broke my little social worker heart to pieces, specifically during the BEACH SCENE💔💔 not quite sure how Brighton could do that to us but OKAY.

Anyway, as per usual, the amount of tension in the air between Harper and Levi was just perfect and inexcusable. Everyone knew even if they wanted to pretend it wasn’t there. They hated each other? Okay yeah…no. It was clear as day they were both still in love and just waiting for the other one to stop being a dumb dumb. I always enjoy Brighton’s communication styles between her characters and how authentic it seems and this was no different.

Also, MAJOR props need to be given here for Brighton’s accurate portrayal of the differences between active and passive suicidal ideation. As someone who works in suicide prevention every day she took a very touchy subject, and something I am particularly picky about in books, and did it so much justice. Progress for Levi was slow and happened in increments, just like in real life. And just for that I’m bumping my 4 star rating to a 5 star.

**once again, THANK YOU to Brighton and her team for the absolute pleasure of sending me an eARC in return for an honest review. I’ve had a blast with this series and cannot wait to see where we go next. Or when we return😉

What a bittersweet end to the Starlight Cove series, Brighton ended the series with another wonderful story. Levi and Harper’s story may be my favorite. Their story had some much depth, and a lot of history to unpack. However, Brighton’s writing kept me entertained and intrigued. There is trauma, recovery, talk of self harm, and intrusive thoughts so make sure to check your TWs. I LOVE that therapy and the hard work to overcoming mental health difficulties is included in the story. Often I feel authors leave out characters getting help, and the honesty of the work it takes to overcome deep rooted trauma.

I wish I could continue to read about Starlight Cove and we never had to leave this fun little town. The side characters were hilarious and great additions to the story, Mabel being Mabel of course!

If you want to enjoy sweet, funny, and heartwarming romance stories with great writing and dialogue the read all of Brighton’s books in this series. I’m not sure if Possessive Heart or Rebel Heart is my favorite, but I love all the stories. They can be standalone, but I highly recommend starting from the first book. They’re all interconnected and flow nicely from one book to the next. Thank you to Brighton and your team for sending me an advanced copy!

This book has taken my number 1 spot for this series! I could not wait to read Levi’s story and it definitely did not disappoint!!

I love second chance romance books with a grumpy MMC!!!Levi is such a protective character and I loved how you were able to see how sensitive he was too. He has so much trauma from his past that’s just been bottled up for the past 11 years, I wanted to jump inside the book and give him a hug. Harper’s personality was made for Levi and I could just feel the love she had for him throughout each chapters even when she stated she hated him.

I forgot how good the spice is in this series and JESUS was it good!!! I think the scene of her walking in on him in the living room will be on replay for the rest of the day 🥵🥵🥵

I’m actually so sad this series is over 😭 I haven’t read a 5⭐️ series in so long and every book was just perfection!

Lastly, I just want to say that Mabel is hands down my favorite side character that I’ve ever read 😂 The cookies were making LOL!

If you love…

Narrated by Lucy Rivers and Zachary Johnson

Narration 🎧🎧🎧

I’m very conflicted with this review. I loved the book, the story, the characters, but it’s a book I wish I had eyeball read. I have loved all the audios of all the previous books in the series so I waited until the audiobook was released to listen to it and it just fell short for me. I don’t know if it was just that I didn’t think the narrators matched how the voices should sound or what. As far as the book goes, I absolutely loved Levi’s story. He and Harper have been broken up for 10 years but she’s back in town to write an article on the town and between meddling townsfolk and the fact that they’ve always been drawn to each other it’s inevitable that they’d reconnect with a fiery passion. Will it be enough to keep them together at the end of her time in town though? And can they get past their break up or is there too much that was left unsaid that will keep them apart?

The cookies smelled delicious like always, but I froze when I got a good look at them. “Mabel.” I split my gaze between her serene face and the phallic- shaped cookies, overemphasized in their lewdness. “You didn’t bring me cookies. You brought me d*cks.”

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5 Stars
🌶🌶🌶🌶🥵 4 Spice

Rebel Heart maybe my favourite read of the year! It will stick with me for a while. I think I highlighted more than any book I have ever read. There is angst, grief, spice and humour. Levi and Harper's story is a second chance romance which is one of my favourite tropes. Set in the Starlight Cove series of books Levi is the last of the McKenzie siblings to get their own book. Although not necessarily needed to be read in order there are little references and characters which are from the previous books in the series and I encourage you to read the rest. 😉

The grief in this book is handled so well and I felt myself welling up whilst reading those moments. Levi has struggled to deal with the loss of his Mum and blames himself for her death. This is why he keeps himself away from Harper as he doesn't believe he deserves her. Honestly this all hit me in the feels.

The book is full of some great humour but also some off the scale dirty talk I mean seriously 😳 I think I need a cold shower especially after reading the final few chapters. I love a dirty mouth on a MMC. The FMC Harper is incredibly relatable to me someone who threw themselves into work to get away from their issues and heartbreak. She is feeling lonely and lost a little bit, and being back in her hometown she starts to see what she was missing.

I totally loved this book and would devel into even more but spoilers! I am very thankful to have received this book as an advanced copy 🙏 ❤ 💕

I was in love with this woman, had been my entire life. So f#*king devoted to her. And it no longer mattered if I thought I wasn’t good enough, because she deserved someone who strived to be. She deserved someone who worked through their issues, exorcized their demons, and became better. For her. And I was sure as hell going to try.

Book 6 in the Starlight Cove series and the first that I have read, and I will definitely be reading the others in the series. I really enjoy a good friends to lovers/enemies to lovers/second chance romance and this fit the bill. Levi and Harper dated when they were younger but due to an incident that involved the police and parents, he decided to break it off with her to spare her any more pain. Too bad that he still loved her, and he still let her go. Fast forward to Harper coming back to town for a magazine article and the only place she can stay is with Levi. Watching them navigate being so close together and not acting on anything at first was so much fun but when they did finally get back together, it was a wonderful experience. This book will take you on an emotional roller coaster that is worth the ticket to ride.
