A mate rejected. A mate revealed. Four Manifestations to manage.
As a member of the Ebon Ash Clan ruling bloodline, Deja Dusk is more than ready to receive her fangs and vampire manifestations from their goddess, Nyx. Confident she will receive one or two manifestations, she’s ready to end the night with her fated mate, Malik Knight.
Shockingly, Deja receives all four manifestations. The rest of the night is a disaster, and Malik rejects their bond, leaving Deja exiled and broken-hearted.
In a surprising twist, years later, another man enters Deja’s life. With the pain of Malik’s rejection still fresh in her mind, Deja is hesitant, but can’t deny their connection. Ridley Donovan swears nothing would keep him from his mate, and the echoes of Deja’s past threaten to consume her.
Can Deja open her heart to Fate's chosen love, or will the fear of rejection hold her back from an eternity of happiness?
**** This title was previously published on Kindle Vella as Day & Night, and featured in a limited anthology, Rejected by the Immortal. Manifested Rejection is the first title in a series of books that will end with Deja Dusk having several love interests, and she won't choose between them!
I like that the author put a notice/disclaimer at the beginning of the book that was a compilation of Vella episodes. I actually forgot the disclaimer while I was reading(and then changed my rating to account for it), but it explained why I had the feeling that the story was written in “scenes” with very little transitions.
I’d love it if the author ever decided to rewrite this, fleshing out the characters and backstory, adding more to it. Basically just taking the framework they already have, and expanding it. I really enjoyed her world, Deja’s world, and am eager for more!
This is the beginning of Deja's story and it begins with the vampire ceremony of Deja getting her manifestations. What is supposed to be a joyous experience followed by claiming her fated mate Malik, all goes sideways and Deja is forced to live in exile.
We see this beginning in three parts with time jumps in between. While time jumps can be a hit or a miss for me, in this case it worked really well! It structured the story for me and there was enough backstory to explain what had happened in the past. I also really liked it as it allowed the focus to remain with major events that Deja had, including meeting her other fated mate, Ridley. And that first meeting was pure gold! Love, love, love that moment.
And Ridley, what a man. He knows what he wants and that is his mate, but he does recognize that he is in a different place than Deja in the beginning. We love a respectful man in this house, even when he moves a little too fast because he knows when he messed up and needs to backpedal a little. I'm so glad Deja didn't wait too long to give into the pull either and these two together were pure gold.
The ending was really interesting and I loved seeing Malik's, Deja's and Ridley's reactions there. I love how this sets up the upcoming why choose -angle and I am here for Ridley and Malik friendship as well (maybe more? maybe?), even if they might be a little at odds right now since Malik did break Deja's heart in a pretty cruel way at the start. It promises an interesting dynamic and plot in the coming books.
This story is very interesting and I would read more. However the biggest drawback is that it wasn’t expanded. There are 2 time jumps and the ending is pretty much a cliffhanger, which is curious for what seems like book 3 of a series.
