I am a fan of this Lessons in Murder series, each book tells an unique and compelling murder mystery, and this book is just as good. The author throws a curve ball on the 30 years old cold case, and the ending is a big surprise! I enjoyed the intimate relationship between Jenna, the lead detective and her girlfriend, professor Randi, as well as the friendship among Jenna's fellow officers. Every character in this book stands out, besides the MCs, I especially love the young detective Jamison, she is beautiful inside and out, elegant , personable, brave and intelligent. I wish to read more about her in the future books.
Oh what another amazing story of a couple I enjoyed from the beginning to now in the lessons in murder books. Jenna and Randi bringing a heart warming story for there love for one another. Again this is a another wonderful mystery a new investigate a old case that Detective Jenna Ferrari has to take on to solve to find the murder. It's absolutely a wonderful mystery great characters .. book 8.
I truly hope There are so many more of these books to come! The vulnerability, understanding, and passion that these characters show is amazing! I loved how the stories grew slowly so the characters could relate to each other and discover each other! I devoured the entire series in a month LOL! Truly hoping there are more to come on this journey! Excellent author!!!
Lieutenant Detective, Jenna Ferrari is out on a jewelry store, burglary investigation. As usual her team of expert detectives are with her: Trisha Jamison, Ron Owens and Ethan Bauman, everything is handled smoothly. Besides taking care of business, her eyes have been wandering over the engagement rings. She just doesn’t know what to select and has big plans for the evening. The only thing left to do is call on the classy and stylish Trisha for advice.
Before ring shopping, police business comes first. Jenna’s called on by one of the officers when a woman comes to the station for help. A sixty-eight year old, African American woman, Donna Ramsey, continues her search for closure and her time is running short. Her daughter Shondra, at eighteen years old, was a senior at Roanoke High School and shot on her way home. The case dates back to March 1993 and is very much cold. No matter how many times Mrs. Ramsey inquired about her daughters case she never got a decent response.
Jenna’s plan with Randi is almost perfect, she’s only a few minutes late. But, of course, a police persons life is never without it’s interruptions and Jenna is called away. Once she makes it home she still has quality time with Randi, but now her plans have changed. Will she ever find that right moment to seal a firm commitment to Randi?
As Jenna and Trisha investigate the 1993 cold case they visit one of the veteran officers involved, the somewhat disgruntled, Lt. Jonny Butler. He and rookie Officer Casey Brenner worked the case. Butler advises them to check in with Sgt. Diego Hernandez of the drugs and gang division in a different area of the precinct. Sgt. Hernandez can only share high praise for both officers. The case points to gang activity and takes Jenna and Trisha into the dark, Red Onion State Prison in Wise County Virginia. They will face the evil and nastiness of Carlos Castro, the leader of the Latin Kings. The case will have Jenna and Trisha re-visiting Johnny Butler and Casey Brenner for the reasons that they don’t remember.
The case of Shondra Ramsey will bring up issues that will have Jenna thinking of her future and family. Her emotions will take her from anger, fear and worry. Will she be able to put it all aside and have one true moment of happiness?
Edale Lane focuses heavily on both Jenna and Trish as they meticulously go through the process of investigating a 1993 cold case. Jenna is always observant of her team and she never goes without verbal or thoughtful compliments. She’s always encouraging them in any way possible. There’s a moment when she takes time to think about the Officer Murphy. She shows her support for Ron Owen, who’s needs to take the detective exam. She’s always proud of Trisha and she gives Jenna lot’s of pointers in romance. I love the little teasers about Ethan Bauman and his coyness and Mario Sanchez.
Jenna still finds she needs to work on her anger issue and has found a way to control it. There’s also moments of remembrance and sadness with the issue of Alzheimer’s, that doesn’t just effect the elderly. It makes her think of the future and what it all means for her and Randi. Will her fears and doubts put a halt to her plan?
I highly recommend, “Cold in Murder” book eight of the “Lessons in Murder” series. Edale Lane is just fantastic in bringing so many different types of cases that are step by step investigation. I’m excited for Edale Lane and how well this series has been accepted. I’m hanging on for the next book!
Another great mystery. I love to see how Randi and Jenna are growing as a couple. This book focuses on a 30-year-old cold case. A teenager was shot on her way home from school. The detective at the time put it down to gang violence and it never went any further. Now Jenna and Jamison are determined to find the truth. I would recommend this book and the others in the series.
Cold in Murder is another hit for Edale Lane. Solving a 30 year old murder was on the agenda for Jenna and Trish. Watching Jenna and Randi’s relationship being taken to the next level was icing on the cake.
Once again Edale Lane has written a great book! Her words are meaningful & she has developed the relationship between Jenna & Randi & made it into something spectacular.
Jenna with her investigative skills & Randi teaching at the college, you would think they didn't have much in common. Edale has shown them to be compatible in every day life. Randi keeps Jenna's temper under control & she listens to her & pays attention to her body language.
Anyway, Jenna is once again faced with a "cold case" & has set out to look at the case & try to come up with an answer. The answer she finds Is one that bothers her & one that has no easy solution to overcome the inequities. You will not be disappointed with this book, but rest assured that it will make you angry, sad & a lot of other emotions inside those pages. It is certainly a page turner & I read it in one sitting!
I wonder if there will be another book with these two MC's. There are still a few unresolved issues.
Edale Lane has a way with words .... a really good way! "Cold in Murder" is loaded with likable and relatable stars, Jenna and Randi, living their lives and their life together and facing all the challenges life throws at them.
The characters are well-developed and very believable, as they conduct their business - Randi, a successful college professor, and Jenna, experienced and brilliant detective. The story itself, is readable, enjoyable, believable.
In lesbian fiction, I seek out, and really value books that are about more the "meet-cutes" and hopping into bed. There's a place for those, of course, but in reality, lesbians' lives are just like anyone else's -- and I love it when an author portrays them as such. Bravo, Edale Lane!
This didn’t feel like the typical cop mystery, maybe because it has to do with an old case from 30 years ago. It must be difficult, even in real life (or maybe more likely) to solve cold cases. At the same time as this investigation consumes her time, Jenna, the detective, is planning some personal changes. I love the characters in this series rom Jenna and Randi to Jenna’s colleagues. The author deals with some tough issues but does so compassionately, which makes the characters feel more real because the emotions are so well described. Like the rest of the series, the book is well written, thoughtful, and engrossing.
I should start that I like this whole series ... Jenna and Randy make a realistic couple with real live issues handled in realistic ways. The series isn't just romance though, there is always a case to get in the way. Jenna's team is also interesting and fun. This particular book has a VERY interesting and heartbreaking case to solve AND we watch Jenna struggle (she does have some angst!). The book is a fun time with a great balance between crime and romance. I received an ARC.
I so love this author Story line was great romance And the story line was actually different this time it was really interesting Can't wait to be the next book
Jenna decides to try to solve a 30 year old cold case. She is also looking for the perfect engagement ring for Randi. Randi, in the meantime, wants to try for them to visit both there families for Christmas. Jenna is a terrific detective and doesn't give up. Loved the story, as I have been loving this series.

I love the continuation of this series the MC’s growth in their relationship is goals all round. I love the care that Jenna takes in her job for justice, we should all be so lucky for this type of integrity in their job. Fantastic series, hope there is more
This was a difficult case for Jenna to handle because it involves the brotherhood of the police force and protecting them. But victims families also need closure.
As for Randi and Jenna taking the next step in their relationship, that was so exciting. On to the next book to see how they go from there.
Really enjoyed this book, it had a change of pace to the rest of the series as Jenna was investigating a cold case. It has Jenna doing a lot of soul searching as she delves into the case and has an unconventional ending which was really well thought out.
