“You’re everything I never knew I always wanted.”

It’s an appropriate quote considering the source is an underrated cheesy nineties movie—my favorite kind of flick. It describes the three of us perfectly. Not at first, though. Because after I met Lincoln Evans and Trey Walker on my first night at Whitmore U, we were a mess. Between Lincoln’s unveiled hatred and Trey’s slick, playboy ways, these were the guys everyone told me to avoid.

Except I can’t because they’re everywhere. And the more we fight whatever this is, the more we learn that we’re connected in unexpected and heartbreaking ways. I don’t know whether they’ll be the ones to shatter my already fractured psyche or put me back together.

Then there’s Matt Johnson—the cheating ex I never wanted to see again—who reappears in my life like a ghost from my past, stirring up tension with his presence alone. His intentions—whether good or bad—are only complicating my life further.

If my past and present collide, it could have devastating consequences for everyone involved.

Lucky me, it seems I’m powerless to stop it.

Someday Away is an adult dark MFM college romance with a healthy mix of enemies-to-lovers and spice and some LGBTQAI+ representation. It features an introverted heroine and two best friends–a golden boy and a broody bad boy–who know how to hate and love in equal measure. This book is a stand alone in an interconnected series and ends with a happy ever after. See the preface or the author website for trigger warnings.

(An ebook advanced reader copy of Someday Away was provided to me by the author and I am an uncompensated reviewer.)

SUMMARY:
Someday Away is an adult contemporary romance novel - featuring a female main character (FMC) and two male main characters (MMC1 & MMC2) - which deals with dark themes, has several “open door” spicy scenes, and features a happily ever after (HEA) ending. It is the first novel in the author’s PACIFIC NORTHWEST BOYS series.

Charlie arrives at a prestigious small university - Whitmore University - near her hometown in the Pacific Northwest after having suffered a number of traumas. She has few possessions, a chip on her shoulder, and the determination to follow her dreams. Within the first day Charlie encounters her new best friend, her new best enemy, and her two future potential lovers. Soon after she discovers her hated ex-boyfriend is also attending the school. What ensues from this setup is a suspense-filled story of sex, love, friendship, found-family, and the pain caused by both personal and generational trauma.

TROPES:
grumpy-sunshine; golden retriever; enemies-to-lovers; MFM throuple; he/they fall(s) first; queer/bi rep; mental health rep

TRIGGERS:
drug/alcohol use (on- & off-page); addiction (off-page); parental abandonment (off-page); suicide (off-page); eating disorders (off-page); abuse (on- & off-page); bullying (on- & off-page); sexual assault (on- & off-page); & rape (off-page)

[Someday Away features an on-page sexual assault. It is disturbing. It’s intended to be disturbing. I was very disturbed and needed to take some time after reading it and that’s okay. It’s in Chapter 42. If this is a capital-T trigger for you, skip it. No shame. It is very well-written, however.]

MAIN CHARACTERS:
Charlie - FMC - beautiful, brilliant, traumatized romantic heroine
Trey - MMC1 - prototypical golden retriever with a darker side; emotionally intelligent; very bisexual
Lincoln - MMC2 - dark, brooding, intelligent grump; mostly heterosexual

POSITIVES:
On top of being a compelling, well-written suspense romance, Someday Away has some top notch mystery elements. I had issues putting it down because I wanted to know what was next scene after scene. The main characters grabbed my attention, the side characters really add to the overall pace of the story, and the main villain - the hated ex-boyfriend - is genuinely frightening. The emotional parts caused the right empathetic reverberations from me, the thrilling parts caused visceral reactions, and the spicy parts caused all of the appropriate physiological responses. The setting’s geography and meteorology are both used effectively to punch the emotional stakes up a notch appropriately.

NEGATIVES:
The only negative I found is hard to define. It feels like the characters - specifically Trey and Charlie, not so much Lincoln - are almost too earnest for the kind of story presented. It’s worse toward the beginning and gradually gets less noticeable as the story goes along and you get to know them and understand their dynamics. Yet in the first act and leading into the second act, it’s something that took me out of the story on occasion.

CONCLUSION:
Overall - ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (5/5)
Spice - 🌶️🌶️🌶️* (3/5)

This is a real page-turner. Hot and tense and emotionally moving as the various relationships deepen and the myriad mysteries are solved. I managed to read it start-to-finish in just over 13 hours with some extended breaks. Highly recommended.

* Almost (4/5), because of the final scene, which is objectively super hot. I dare you to disagree.

Someday Away literally blew my mind, in all the best ways.

This amazing debut novel from Sara Elisabeth is delicious and wonderful and so so so sexy!

First I should say, I’m a romantasy girlie. All my favorite fictional boyfriends have wings, are shifters, possess shadow magic… I think you get it…

I wasn’t expecting to fall in love with the PNW college romance… but I’m hooked.

Each character serves emotion, relatability, trauma, and beautiful growth in this standalone. (Not just the main characters either! The whole cast is valuable and moves the story forward!)

There’s angst, there’s healing, there’s a million funny movies references & the LET👏🏼ME 👏🏼TELL👏🏼YOU👏🏼 the spice is delectable.

Like the kind of spice you save to your kindle notes, so you can go back to it again and again!

✅ Poly & Bisexuality representation
✅ mental health representation
✅ the hottest HAE I’ve read in a LOONG time

Don’t walk… RUN to snag your copy of this deliciously written unconventional love-story!

Note - I received a ARC copy of Someday Away. This review was given freely and joyfully.

Just finished Someday Away and I'm already mourning leaving Linc, Tray and Charlie behind! This college-based romance was unputdownable for me and I couldn't wait to see whether Linc's broody ways would melt into true love. No spoilers from me though - you'll have to read it to find out! But if you like the idea of not one but two gorgeous guys in an adult dark MFM romance with enemies-to-lovers vibes, spice, possessiveness and great banter, you'll love this. Can't wait for the next one in the series!

This book had me hooked from beginning to end. The characters were all so interesting and their backstories came out in such a great pace that I wanted to keep reading just to find out what happened!
I thoroughly enjoyed the 80s and 90s references. Total nostalgia fix.
I loved the connection between the characters, their emotional journeys, and their growth.
Definitely hated Matt, absolutely fell in love with Lincoln, and wanted to hug Charlie and Fiona so many times.
Such a good read!

You never know what to expect when you read out of your typical genres, but I absolutely devoured this dark romance! The story was totally engrossing, and I just loved all three main characters. Will definitely be looking forward to the rest of the series.

This book is my Roman Empire in a way. One guy is obsessed with you and one is smitten by you. What do you do? Which one to go for? I would say both because the team they make 🥵

This book, the reason for obsession, her being a shy girl and Linc & Trey being the popular duo of the university. It was the perfect setting for the book.

What broke me was the pain these characters had individually but when they came together? They healed something in each other.

The whole vibe & aesthetics of book were top tier.

I also loved Charlie’s dynamic with her brothers. It was heartwarming to watch 😭

I loved the book and the tropes because who doesn’t love MFM ✨🤭

Have you ever wondered what it would be like if Lizzie ended up with both Darcy and Bingley, but everyone is kind of traumatized? This is a new adult (college) romantic drama with MFM throuple (even if the word makes everyone involved want to gag). I preordered this book, but after it released, it got buried under some hold books that arrived from the library. Today, I decided to check it out—then I proceeded to read the entire book! It is unlike anything I’ve ever read, and it is definitely the spiciest book I’ve read this decade.

Advertised as “an adult dark MFM (male-female-male) college romance with a healthy mix of enemies-to-lovers and spice and some LGBTQAI+ representation. It features an introverted heroine and two best friends–a golden boy and a broody bad boy–who know how to hate and love in equal measure. This book is a stand alone in an interconnected series and ends with a happy ever after (HEA).”

Charlie (Charlotte) Bennett’s past haunts her after she enrolls in college in the Pacific Northwest. Over the course of her freshman year, she assembles a found family, builds bridges over chasms of damage with her given family, and manages to fall in love with two best friends, one of whom seems to preemptively disdain her. Advise you check out content warnings if you have any sensitivities, because this book is sometimes as dark and bleak as the broody Pacific Northwest.

“Someday away” is a dark college romance and the debut novel of Sara Elisabeth. It’s the first book in this interconnected series.
Charlie, Trey and Lincoln are the main characters. Sara also provides us with a cast secondary characters…Fiona, Matt, Serenity…who are just as intriguing. She gives each one personalities that are animated and distinct. Their past and present will collide along the way giving insight as to who they’ve become.
The story is well developed, has great description and is one that has you saying “I’ll read just one more chapter”. This book is involved and it’s worth every heartbreak and happiness to finally arrive at one hot and unexpected HEA!
Definitely looking forward to reading more work from this author.

I met Sara in line for the BB4E romance con in Vancouver recently and she shared a bookmark with her book on it so I thought I would give it a read. I am glad I did! I have read a lot of authors romance books from less known authors and you can usually tell when reading the story. There was never a part of this story where I felt like it was an inexperienced writer, from start to finish I was interested in this story. The spicy times were fire, and the suspense pieces were not drawn out, which I appreciated. The only thing I didn't enjoy was just how fast after a traumatic event there were some sexy times, but I recognize that's not uncommon in romance novels. I will be recommending this book to my friends!!

I think this is the author's debut novel, and while it shows the author's potential, it is also very clearly a first try.
Some dialogues were cringey, there were corny lines and sterotypical situations. And then there were the things that just didn't make sense. I think the intended audience is pretty young, despite all of the (tired) 80's and 90's references.
That said, the relationship development was good, maybe a little annoying but realistic. I feel one of the mmc's didn't get enough of the spotlight, but I liked his insights.
Lastly, the situation with the father and brothers fell completely to the background with no resolution or even follow-up, while it was a pretty big deal.

Good read for sure. I kinda wish there was a little more of the hospital/recovery scene over the bar hopping in Vancouver.. maybe a little more MM too if I had it my way haha. I really liked the relationship between the boys though, I did get confused cause I thought they played hockey at first. The back stories were good.. I wanted to know how/what happened when Charlie tells Link about Ani, I’m not sure if I read over it or it wasn’t in there…

This is one of the best debut books I’ve ever read. When I first bought it, I wasn’t sure what I was expecting. It resonated with me being from the PNW myself and our moody weather will always hit home, but this story, and the way Sara writes, had me hooked before I was even 50 pages in. It’s spicy and moody and had twists I never saw coming. I can’t wait to start book 2 and for book 3 to be finished. I do hope that book 3 is in paperback, I’m a paper book girlie.

Let's just say this might be one of my favorite books I have read to date. I read it in a single day. I devoured this book, and this story will consume you in return. It draws you in from the very beginning. With it's fast moving pacing, you are sucked in right from the start. You know there is so much more to the story and Sara has you begging to reveal all the dirty secrets, but she holds them from you, giving you just a taste, building so much tension (sexual and otherwise) that you do not want to put it down.

The characters are so well developed, so well rounded, they feel real. I want to be the FMC, Charlie. And when you meet the MMC's Trey and Lincoln, you will know why. Who wouldn't want to be the center of that angst driven love triangle. Full of sarcastic witty banter from our brooding bad boy, a fiery FMC, and an adorable f*** boy who you know has so much more underneath. Full of spicy scenes, enthralling storylines, and so many 80's/90's throwbacks... I feel like author Sara Elisabeth wrote this book for me. Literally, I think this is one of those books that was destined to find its way on my shelf because not only do I relate to it on a deep level, it also reached me in a way I hadn't expected.

I had a little bit of a growing experience, a moment of looking at my past, and finding a different level of peace with a time in my past. When an author can do that, it is truly magical. I can't wait for the next book, I mean seriously can not wait, I am probably one of Sara's biggest fan girls at this point.

If you want your next sexy, funny, and dark MFM romance, look no further. Everything you are looking for is right here!

Bonus: It's included in my kindle unlimited membership, but I bought the paperback after I finished because I loved it that much. It has made it's way into my select collection of books I keep that I know I will be rereading over and over throughout the years, I have already read it at least four times since release.

Sara Elisabeth transports you to Whitmore U, an alluring backdrop for where the main character Charlie will continue to surprise you as her secrets unravel along with those around her. Trey and Lincoln are both so different, and yet you can totally see why Charlie is drawn to both of them. This story is a love triangle unlike any other, and the spice level is truly off the charts! The perspective shifts between the three of them, and I loved getting inside each of their heads. This book is about broken people navigating life and finding love in their own ways, and the power that unexpected relationships can have in finding joy and healing. There’s also the vivid highs and lows of a first year of college, highly entertaining music/film/TV references, and a villain that you will truly loathe. I read this in one weekend, staying up late because I needed to know what happened next. Highly recommend for those who like their romance novels dark and steamy, and especially those looking for LGBTQAI+ representation.
