Once you start a Laramie book, you can’t put it down & this book was an awesome read! Her characters have such depth, you never wonder what you missed, and you never want the book to end. This book was no different! I loved this couple, and how right from the beginning, we dig right in, and they both capture your heart.
Jasper lost his parents at a young age from a car crash. After spending some time in the hospital with a broken leg, he must go home with his wealthy, stuffy grandfather who he doesn’t really know. It broke my heart to hear how he grew up in that mansion without any love. But he met some kids, and they remained BFFs to this day. They all had their own issues with family or lack of family and created their own within their small circle. One of his BFF’s Abel (book 2) shared his young father Boone (book 1) with all the boys. Boone gave them all stability and was a father figure that Jasper was missing from his grandfather. Jasper and Daisy danced around one another in HS, then started dating in college. We learn from their past how they broke up and we also see that as much as he is able, Jasper in his own way, shows his love for Daisy but still breaks her heart by breaking up with her. Three years later we can feel their chemistry and you can see they are still in love. Daisy is not afraid to show and tell Jasper that she loves him, but broody Jasper feels it but can’t say it. He is afraid of love since his parents died, he feels if he loves someone, they will die… my heart broke for the young boy, Jasper. He was a pawn with his grandfather, and he takes the love Jasper still has for his deceased parents and plays on his emotions by threatening to end the foundation he started in their name unless he does what he demands of him by marrying and having a child. Jasper cannot let this happen as the foundation offers underprivileged children a safe place to go to thrive and just be a kid, things he missed out on living with his cold-hearted grandfather. Jasper can only think of one person who he would want to marry… enter his only love, Daisy! I loved watching them navigate through getting to know one another again, as this romance felt real. Even though Jasper’s grandfather was wealthy, Jasper had a road crew job, working out in the elements, had a sparse home and lived in half a duplex he shared with one of his friends. … I loved how normal he was.
Larami’s books are beautifully written, and you always fall in love with her characters, their friends and family. It is always nice to catch up with characters from her previous books and I always love a book with an epilogue. This one didn’t disappoint, one-click worthy, wish I could give it more stars!
