An interesting walk-through of the life of a very devout missionary, Henry Martyn, who finished the race at age 31. Some writing felt repetitive or would have been helpful stated in a different way, but was intriguing overall. I especially appreciated reading one of Martyn's sermons at the end of the book and wish it would have been placed earlier on in the book!

We see the life of Henry Martyn, who gave up a comfortable, scholarly life and even marriage to his beloved for a difficult life preaching and translation the Scriptures in India and Persia, ultimately losing his life abroad due to illness. We see a man who saw his calling in Christ as much more important and valuable than all other things.
It is written in a logical progression with his life broken down into 30 chapters with many excerpts of letters he wrote to his friends.

Solid retelling of a man’s incredible life and his devotion to God and the salvation of men. You cannot walk away from this biography unaffected. As a Christian, Martyn’s zeal, scholarship, and deep intimacy with God was convicting and encouraging. Those with a heart for missions will be have their hearts fanned into flame. Those who are unconvinced about the need for missions will be challenged. Take up and read!
