Christopher Rossmore has one to run Rossmore Wineries, the vineyard that has been in his family for generations. Despite preparing for the role since birth, Christopher finds himself competing with his estranged father’s gold digging fiancee for the job. In order to become CEO, he has to convince celebrity couple Michaela Hamilton and Hunter Lawrence to hold their star studded nuptials at the vineyard.

He can run a business with his eyes closed, but public relations is not his jam.

He’s gonna need some help.

Isobel Brooke Taylor has one to run Taylor Made Hair Care, the family run hair care brand currently helmed by her father. Despite traveling all over the world to solidify Taylor Made’s status as an international brand, the board is worried that her reputation as a party girl & socialite would make her unsuitable to take over.

In order to get the top job she has to convince the board that she can balance business & pleasure.

Walking into a crowded party and walking out with everyone eating out of the palm of her hand? Easy. Doing the same thing in the boardroom? Not so much.

She’s gonna need some help.

When Izzie and Chris discover that Michaela and Hunter are hosting a couples only retreat, the perfect plan emerges. These childhood best friends will pretend to be lovers, while Izzy helps Chris woo the future Lawrences and Chris helps Izzy woo the board.

But, can Christopher and Isobel get through the retreat without wooing each other?

This is terrible. I have read most, if not all, of Monique’s books and this writing and storytelling is so amateurish and rudimentary that it’s kinda offensive. There is no real tension and the pacing is nonexistent, with everything rolling along like a damn bulldozer. The characters have no depth and are cartoonishly and predictably written. The dialogue is ass and, somehow, simultaneously simple and absurd. This book reads like someone writing a shitty first draft for a writing course for the first time, not like an author who has published several books that have been written and woven together much better than this.

I hate coming down on an author, especially a Black woman and someone who I have quickly become a fan of, but this was not it. I’m so disappointed because I was so excited to see it was published and bought it immediately, but this is nowhere near the level of work published previously and I hope this is not the beginning of a trend.

Chris & Izzie ❤️

Friends to lovers is hands down my favorite trope, and Chris and Izzie nailed it. They were adorable together. From the moment they decided to revamp their image, I knew things would only get better. Their relationship was so enjoyable that I devoured this book. I wasn't ready to say goodbye to them. I need more of their story and to see their relationship evolve even further.

The mixed matches

The story was a mixed match and volley for me. I liked the idea, and I wish the story was fleshed out a little more to be able to stay focused on the storyline. It's a 3 stars story for me.

Nice Try

This book had a lot of potential. The friends to lovers fake dating trope was cute. Same for the shy guy getting the popular girl. It was all very familiar fodder. Parts of the story were funny. There was plenty of anticipation built up to see how both characters would land their dream jobs. The couples retreat was a really fun element. I think that might’ve been my favorite part of the book. There really was a good foundation to create an enjoyable book. Something about the delivery felt off. It got to be just too exaggerated and a little corny. The big confrontation scenes at the end could’ve been written better. It was a quick easy read that could’ve used a little better storytelling.

“You have med I’m right here. You’re mine and I’m going to take good care of you. Okay?”

This was a cute slow burn, spicy, friends to lover romance! This was a quick read and an overall enjoyable read if you’re looking for a quick romance book or a quick palette cleanser.

Some parts of the dialogue was a bit cringy, and felt a bit off. I also wanted to see a bit more of the relationship once it was out and stable, felt like something was missing at the end.

Hey there,

This is a full review… so be prepared!

The title is giving urban story about a girl who is beautiful and used to having what she wants because of her beauty. She probably can have any guy she wants and obtain what her heart desires with minimal efforts- in whatever that looks like. She is beautiful, possibly intelligent in the streets or the books. Maybe she's a unicorn and she's both. Her dad may be in her life and spoils her rotten but she still works hard, or not in her life causing her to work hard because no one gives her anything.

I appreciated the content warning and the brief overview of the story since it is a short story. I was able to jump straight in and understand the background to the storyline. The son-father dynamic between Christopher and Blake was triggering and sad to me. Initially, Blake appeared to be a disengaged father, but over time, his character revealed he was just horrible man who ended up becoming a father- solely because his body willed it. It definitely reminded me of my own child's father and my father.

The rich nigga network took me out. Every time I read it laughed a little. People don’t care for the media being in their business but the media is why they have business. Most people remain relevant because of the hype the media gives them, be it good hype or bad hype. Being a celebrity is a job. Unfortunately it’s a job in the public eye which means more often than not your privacy will be invaded. It sucks because people have zero boundaries but it’s something people in that lifestyle should make peace with.

I love that Izzie cooks her own meals but knows her limits because she has a cleaning service clean her home. She also meditates and makes sure to calm herself before going into high stress situations. I love the relationship that she has with Chris.

It’s weird that Izzie and Chris never hooked up in anyway before they pretended to date for the retreat. They’ve been making plans to be by each others side for years. They say things like “ I’d do anything for you..” and even their friends agree they are equally yoked. The have the cutest love story and the best group of friends.

Unpopular opinion: Trinese was just trying to live her best life. I don't blame her. She was following the plan and that's where she messed up. Sometimes you need a plan inside of a plan. In other words, she should have had a Plan B in case Plan A with Blake didn’t work well.
Blake was my least favorite character. He literally did his best to keep his son from his birthright. He made sure his son was suffering. It was twisted, sad, and despicable.

The ending was predictable, but I loved how it got there. There were many twists, turns and oh wows during the process. I was happy that Chris was able to turn things around for himself even though his dad continually tried to block his son's blessings.
Once I was able to get past the grammatical errors, the misspellings, and the writing tenses that threw me off it was a palatable read. I enjoyed the story line. I just found myself doubling back a lot on things I read because they either didn't make sense, the wrong word was used, or something was misspelled. The story flowed well from beginning to end and I loved getting to read about Izzie and Chris' love story.
I appreciated that part when they talked about their health status and when they were last tested. Although I do think it should have been a deeper conversation, I am always happy to see it in a book, sadly it rarely happens. I thoroughly enjoyed the light BDSM/kink conversation. I loved that Izzie and Chris discussed bondage and attended an adult "intimacy" party as well.

The book was a good read. I enjoyed reading about the love story between Izzie and Chris. I also appreciated their friendship circle. They were humbling but supportive, and we all need friends who remind us of who we are but also support the things we wish to manifest. The content warning was needed and appreciated because I was slightly triggered, but I came out unscathed! Lol while I did have my obstacles with the grammatical issues, I would still recommend this book.

In She a Baddie, we meet Chris Rossmore and Isobel Taylor, Black excellence on full display. Chris and Isobel have been friends ever since popular Isobel saved geeky Chris from being teased mercilessly in high school. Chris and Isobel have always loved one another, but neither acts on the brewing attraction because they value their friendship too much. When Chris has to fight for the role of CEO at his family's company, Rossmore Wineries, and Isobel finds herself facing the same career-related challenges at her family business, Taylor Made Hair, the two work together to achieve their goals. Along the way, the two realize that they want a relationship and do the work to actualize it - finding true happiness in this happy for now-style friends-to-lovers fake-dating romance.

The story is entertaining for a quick read. Author Monique Fisher kept me engaged from the very first page. And even got some chuckles out of me...some parts of She a Baddie were really funny. Chris is the perfect MMC, smart, rich, and supportive - I'm looking for my Chris Rossmore right now! Isobel is a great FMC, too, she's smart, quick witted, self-confident, and fashionable, just an all around great female character.

A few of the cons: 1) Unfortunately, for me, some of the dialogue between the characters is a bit immature, but the characters are young. 2) Some of the sex scenes and the confrontational scenes near the end of the book felt rushed. 3) I think Monique Fisher might've tried to do too many things with this really short story - friends to lovers, fake dating, estranged father-son relationship, and BDSM...that's a lot in 129 pages.

I've only read one other book by Monique Fisher, Hot for Teacher, and it was so good that I decided to read her other books whenever I could: enter She a Baddie. I was expecting a full length novel, but I think this is more of a novelette at just 129 pages. It was an enjoyable quick read and I will read more of Monique Fisher's books for sure!

Final Rating: 3.75/5 stars

Spice: 🥵🥵🥵🥵

This book was a different type of romance read for me.

Izzie and Chris are best friends and wealthy heirs do their respective family businesses. They’ve always been in each others corners and as they individually climb to the top, they run into a few roadblocks.

The solution? Fake dating of course! What they didn’t account for was real feelings to finally surface. I enjoyed how their love blossomed and really enjoyed the friendship aspect of their bond too. A person who knows you inside and out and takes interest in the things you are interested in is alright with me! The spice in this book made me blush a lil bit too lol. 🤭🥵

This read was cute, I’d recommend it.

Read

I was given an early copy of She's a Baddie.
This was a fun light, read. The characters were great on their own and shined together. Their friend group was a fun bunch! I love friends to lovers when the "friend" part is strongly represented. The sheep scene had me crying laughing.

If you're looking for a light, quick read this one is a good one.

Chris and Izzie were cute but oblivious. I liked the essence of the story, but the third person narration wasn’t it for me. Dual POV would have been better. Chris’s dad was a complete jerk and Trinese…no words! Heather, Artie, and Freddie were hilarious and I’m glad that Chris and Izzie got out of their own way and realize they truly love each other as more than friends.

This was cute, sexy and straight to the point. The friends to lover pipeline was nonexistent because these two started hunching ASAP-I can appreciate that because a ton of romances draw out the slow burn.

This was a great friend’s to lovers book but it just felt unfinished and corny. I wish we had gotten to know the other characters a little more like Heather or Artie or even the couples at the retreat. Overall, it was OK reading it was fast.

“She a Baddie (The Decadence Series - Book 1” was a decent attempt at a friends to lovers storyline. Unfortunately though, there was no continuity between the intended storyline and the characters Chris & Issie. 🥴🤦🏾‍♀️

Short simple and to the point. This was a quick read in between books and it made me all giddy inside. Friends to lovers is a sucker trope of mine long with fake dating and guess what, this book has both. There is a nice amount of spice in the book to go along with the storyline. There were a few grammar issues but nothing that couldn't be looked past. Overall 4/5 ⭐
