USA Today Bestselling Author Ella Fox has learned a bunch of stuff along the way but the most important of all those things is that anything is possible when you try. In 2012 she took a big leap of faith and published her first book, Broken Hart. Once that happened, her entire life changed.
Ella's favorite things are music, movies, traveling, and, of course, reading. This isn't a surprise considering the fact that her mom is USA Today Bestselling Author Suzanne Halliday.

As I go by GR ratings, 2 stars means "it was ok" and that is exactly my feelings towards the book. This review is really long and on top of that, it doesn't have a single gif or pic in it so bear with me.

What a fitting title. Indeed, this story details the results of lies and a deception that nearly destroys Killian and Sloane’s love. I was initially very intrigued by said “deception” and tragedy that split this couple apart, and when I read this sentence:
“Why would a man buy a woman that he hates?”
Well I was sold. Good for you for reeling me in author!
>>>After reading<<<
In many ways, this book did not work for me. Here are my thoughts:
1. The prologue was fantastic! I liked how it set up the foundation of Sloane and Killian’s relationship, and that no matter what, these were two individuals who loved each other deeply. What killed it for me here, however, was immediately the author skips to “4 years later.” I’m not a big fan of time gaps, but if I can see that it is integral to the plot and character development, I’m willing to accept it. In this case, it was not. This jump was abrupt as the reader is left stumbling through the book wondering why it’s now 4 years later, and to have my thoughts split into trying to focus on the book plot but also having all these questions coming up on what exactly happened is disarming and broke my reading flow from the start. This time gap is at 3%.
2. The background info introduced in chapters 1 and 2. It’s always nice to have a point of reference and some prior knowledge of the characters’ background in order to connect with them more, but the way it’s presented here bored me. Imagine yourself as the reader. The prologue was going so well and BOOM, 4 years later without an explanation. You’re frantically asking yourself “did I miss something,” “what the freak happened?” and instead of getting answers or hints to get you closer to the answers, you’re bombarded with a bunch of info about the characters’ pasts. I’m not saying those were bad to add in, but they would have a much bigger impact if it were weaved into the prologue.
3. Killian’s treatment of Sloane. Many have told me that Killian is an alpha male, and while I do believe that is the case, I think readers should also consider the division within that category.
A. Being bossy and “alpha” for the sake of loving and protecting the female. B. Being bossy and a mega jerk for the sake of it.
Killian is choice B. Now I do realize that the reasoning behind his treatment of Sloane is going to unfold as the story continues, and that’s fine with me. However, I was thoroughly unimpressed with his reasons (and I’ll get to that section later).
As I continued reading, my impression of Killian went downhill fast. Even though he hates her and buys her to get revenge on Sloane, I could still tell he has feelings for her, hence the part where he truly is an alpha. However, his outbursts and jealousy (normally it makes me happy to see the hero jealous and get possessive of the heroine) grated on my nerves and instead I saw him as a baby throwing tantrums. Here, take a look:
“You were out there letting guys come inside of you with nothing to keep you from getting pregnant or worse? How many men have had you? HOW MANY?”
-This was the first outburst and Sloane is a virgin.
“Do you really think I’d let him – let anyone – have you? You belong to me and you better not fucking forget it!”
-Sloane is calling one of her guards to tell him it’s a day for the beach and Killian sputters out the above. I get that he’s asserting his dominance over her but this annoyed me a little at how easily he gets possessive over something so trivial.
“BULLSHIT! You were gone for over four hours! You snuck out of here like a thief in the goddamn night and it wasn’t because you wanted to run. You were trying to run away! Who did you call?”
-This made me so furious. Sloane was jogging and she stopped for some water and then fell asleep. I get that Killian was worried about her but he repeatedly cuts her off when she tries to explain and makes conjectures that are entirely out of proportion.
“And who was this man that woke you up, Sleeping Beauty? Trey [a guard] said he saw you getting out of someone’s truck. Who is he, Sloane? WHO. IS. HE?”
-REALLY NOW? If the motherfucker could listen to her for just an extra second, he’d get the full story. The man who woke her up was a patrol guy on the beach.
“What. The. Fucking. FUCK. Sloane?”
-After that beach patrol scene, he proceeds to fuck Sloane’s brains out repeatedly and after he leaves her again. Sloane takes it as a sign that he’s finished with her for the night and leaves to go back to her room. Killian lashes out immediately. I mean, what did he expect her to think when he leaves the room every time after sex?
“Why the fuck are you making them breakfast? There’s only one reason for you to go out of your way and that would be because you like one of them. So help me God, if you’re flirting with any one of my security people, I’ll have them relocated to Siberia. Is that what you want?”
-Ok, really? You’re fucking serious. This is what happened: Sloane makes breakfast and since she’s kind-hearted, she thinks about the guards too and wants to bring down a plate for them and then Killian snorts out the above. By the time I got to this part, I was rolling my eyeballs major and thinking to myself, does the author really have to have Killian nitpick on this trivial thing too? This is probably the scene that made me finally think what a whiny ass he is instead of his possessiveness and jealousy being attractive.
4. Killian’s reasoning and the deception. I will admit, the author did a fine job of twisting the book up in the last 25%. And with a sentence like this...
"There are always choices. You made yours a long time ago. It's time for you to feel the consequences."
Well then. The reasons must be real good right?
But...
The initial revelation of his reasons, along with his actions right after were an extreme disappointment and I think everyone who has read the book will understand what I’m saying. *cough – LETTER – cough*
It was unbelievable that with Killian so in love with Sloane that he'd believe someone else's words and not put his faith in her. Also that letter just goes to show what a douchecanoe he is.
5. Killian’s job. I don’t think there was a definite announcement of his actual job. All I know is that in 4 years, he’s a relatively well-known billionaire and a tech genius.
Okay.
=_=
Also he throws money out there like it’s nothing. I would’ve believed it more if his job title wasn’t so obscure and I felt like the rich aspect of the book was only added so he’d have the money to buy Sloane and keep her in a mansion the size of a Disney castle.
I think those were the main points. Of course there are things like the cliché route the book took after Killian reveals his reasons, and the ending part (while packed with action and is a nice twist) was all jammed into a couple of pages and made those scenes seem rushed.
************************************************
I’d like to end on a high note and point out one thing the author did that a vast majority of others don’t do, and that is sticking to the original premise of her story. While I wasn’t too impressed with the execution of the “consequences” from the “deception,” the book was entirely focused on that aspect and the author didn’t chicken out and direct the story in an entirely different direction away from what the blurb dictates. A book that matches its blurb...you don’t know how hard it is to find books like these.
With the high ratings its gotten, it’s obvious that the story appeals to a certain group of readers so it may just be me not feeling the same...anyway I have spoken my mind and wish the author the best of luck.
ARC provided by author in exchange for an honest review.
Sloane...I have this thing about a heroine being SO weak and clingy, that I'll automatically know I won't like the story. Add to that an abusive hero and I'm done.
It's such a turn-off that she never stands up for herself. Killian humiliates the crap out of her and she's just mentally hating him. What the hell? Girl, you have a mouth USE IT! Don't even get me started on the fact that he's with other woman while he's with Sloane. On a side note, Sloane reminds me of my neighbor's chihuahua. She's afraid the whole time and constantly asking for permission because God forbid she oversteps some imaginary line.
Killian. Can someone tell who the hell does he think he is? He says shut up and you better shut up. He says jump and you better ask how high. No one stands up to him even if he's being disrespectful or straight up asshole. "No one is immune to him" I'm sorry I must've missed the part where the author mentioned he's some kind of demigod. Alpha? No, he's just an abusive jerk. There's a difference.
Take a look at a few conversations:
“How dare you call me? HOW DARE YOU? I want nothing to do with you ever again. You’re dead to me.” (k) Without another word, he hung up on me, and I’d lost it and started hyperventilating. Once again, I got so upset that I needed to be sedated. I’d never heard Killian’s voice sound anything like what it did on the phone and my heart was destroyed.”(Sloane)
Please! Why won’t you talk to me? Why do you hate me?” (Sloane) “You know exactly why I hate you. Stay the fuck away from me or I won’t be held accountable for my actions.” (Killian) “Killian! Nooooo! Please! Killian! I need you, I need you… I need you! KILLIAN!” (Sloane)
Are you swooning yet? Because I wasn't.
I wouldn't recommend this book at all. Not worth the time reading it.
At first I thought that I was getting into one of those daddy issue books because Sloane is 17 and Killian is 23 and she's sort of swimming in his pool at night when she has her own damn pool. I was like Sloane you little slut. But no, that's not the case. Turns out they are neighbors. Childhood friends. His sister Sharon and her are close. He loves and watches out for those girls. That is until....
A tragedy that splits Killian and Sloane into hating each other forever. It's also where all the Deceptions begin.
There's not much I can give you in details without ruining the book for you. You will hate and love Killian, and then hate him some more. He's angry, cocky, ruthless. At times I didn't think he had a heart. If you adore those dirty talkers, Killian is your man. Had me tightening my thighs and all *fans self* Can you say Alpha?
My dear Sloane...She's loved this man her whole life. I wanted to play Momma Bear for her. It just wasn't fair everything she had to go through. When was this girl going to get her HEA?
There are going to be some heartbreaking moments but honestly it all works out really good with the story. It's what kept me reading, yeah well besides Killian's dirty mouth and those Sexy Times scenes...Ay Dios Mio. Once the story unravels all the puzzle pieces are put back together again. Thank You Ella for not making Killian into a pansy and for keeping him the freight train that he is even after 14yrs *winks* (Super Sperm)...I'll Be Back!!
R.I.P.
To those who Karma came and bit right in the buttocks!
Awards: To the Tate Family❤️
Psst...there's is Romance and you will get an HEA. Read it!
*I received an ARC in return for an honest opinion*
I was fine with this book up until chapter 17 hence my 3 star rating but then it all went to hell for me. I am so completely and utterly sick of the Heroine that allows herself to be degraded and treated worthless by a guy only for her to turn around and forgive the malice bestowed upon her in the blink of an eye all because she "loves" him.
What kind of bullshit is that? Killian treated Sloan like shit. All because of someone else's lies he had this "so-called" vendetta against her and when the the truth was out and the dust settled he looked like a dumb dick. To top it all off she forgave his harsh behavior towards her instantly and then proceeded to bed him.
After that my passion for reading this book began to deflate, the cliché plot twist that came later didn't make it any better and all I wanted was to hurry up and be done with it. The only justifiable HEA I wanted was for Sloan to leave his sorry ass after everything he did but I'm not that lucky. Apparently physical and sexual abuse should be rewarded with a marriage, white picket fence and 2.5 kids...
Wow. Just wow. I've never read a book like this before. It's just PLAIN RIDICULOUS. Seriously.
Sloane's nothing but weak, meek and freaking-forgivable heroine and I hate her. I mean, she's been 'bought', she said to herself that she hates Killian yet when he forced her to have sex, she enjoyed it. I was like whaaa? Freaking hypocrite.
And Killian. What the freaking fuck dude?! He was like on-and-off kind of Hero. At one point, he hurt her like really hurt her, saying bad things but then he's being sweet and and affective. I was like, I hate him so much I want to titslap him.
This book is just freaking ridiculous. There are some kick point where they could be very emotional and angsty but the author didn't punch it and she's just disappointing me. Big time. Could be so much better. I recommend Ella Fox to read Diana Palmer's The Wedding in White.
Consequences of Deception had a very interesting blurb. The sound of Killian made me pick up this book immediately. And sure 'nuff, this man didn't disappoint me!
Killian was dark, mysterious and moody. The vibe he gives shows that he is trying to hide something and at the same time, that man is alpha.
And on the other hand, Sloane was always in love with Killian. They were both holding back due that six years age gap. One day, changed everything.
The questions lies on what made them both change? Will they even get a closure? The sadly, the huge suspense went it came out was just ok and afters I didn't the story much. I was skimming it for those hot scenes that Killian gives us.
"I'll remind you of how much you don't want me when my dick's hitting the back of your throat and you're begging me with your eyes to come in your mouth. You'll swallow every fucking drop with a smile, and then you'll beg for more"
"Princess...when we get back to the condo, I'm going to use the suede flogger on your ass and your tits before I fuck you. After I've fucked you and made you come so many times that you beg me to stip, you're getting on your knees. Remember when I told you that someday my dick would be hitting the back of your throat and you'd be begging me with your eyes to come down it? Today is that day. I'm coming in that hot fucking mouth of yours and you, baby, are going to swallow. Every. Drop."
Now, this book had some really good elements to it. It was interesting. It was mysterious at times. If you're in it for the sex, well, there's lot of that and it isn't stagnant. Not my thing, but I don't think those of you who enjoy it will be disappointed. That's where my compliments end.
This book. Was. Disgusting.
I was thinking that maybe Fox was going to go the route of Stockholm syndrome. It even mirrored a lot of elements used in the Dark Duet. But, nope. No Stockholm syndrome, which I must say that I am glad that she didn't really push that angle because it wouldn't have worked and I would have been more pissed off than I already am.
So, Killian, who TAKES Sloane's virginity, is not a fucking man. He's not attractive. He's a fucking asshole. He does absolutely nothing to redeem himself in this book. What, am I supposed to care that this piece of shit was saving this girl while he was destroying her? Am I supposed to be all gooey with him because Sloane's a fucking moron who doesn't have enough self respect to walk away from this pussy who thinks himself a man? You know, I could even understand him while he was being a piece of shit. That, as awful as it was, was fine. It's after all the lies are replaced by truth that I have the fucking problem. There was no room in this book for forgiveness that ends in happily ever after. Oh, hell no. The fact that he wasn't even gentle with Sloane while raping her for the first time is just repulsive. I'm sorry, just because her body responded didn't make it any less than rape. If he had been a man, he wouldn't have been able to live with himself when everything came to light. There's no way he would have allowed himself in her presence. Quite frankly, I think I would have loved this story had it ended realistically.
Sure, Sloane may have held feelings for this shit stain. Sure, maybe she was confused about her reactions to him considering how much he hated her. But with everything he did to her, she should have been catatonic.
Sloane is a pitiful person. I wanted to take a fucking wrench to her. She had no problem what so ever being a whore. None at all. There's no way after what happened between them that she would have been able to trust him. Ever. She would have hated him for what he did to her. And she damn well should have. Who would want to bring children into the world with a Father who IS a monster!
There are a few books that have pissed me off to this extent, but this one goes so much further because it covers something that hits a bit too close to home and the dismissal of it is such a slap in the face. So, unfortunately, perhaps I'm a little biased.
The fact that she wanted nothing to do with Killian after she learns he gave her to her uncle royally pissed me off. She considered that a bigger insult than rape! She considered that worse than buying her like a filthy whore and actually using her! WHAT THE FUCKING FUCK!
The way the story winds down is so rushed and unrealistic it just pissed me off even more. I am truly sorry Fox, as I know you are an indie writer, and I try really hard to give indie's a chance, but I guess you'll have to learn the hard way that sometimes your writing is going to offend people.
I am so disappointed that there were no consequences for Killian. I want to rip Fox apart because she's responsible for him.
Yuck.
Anywho...suffice it to say that I will probably be avoiding this author for a long, long time.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I am literally in awe of this book. That is how out of this world fantastic it was. I am typing this review after spending the last few hours entranced by its magnificence.
Consequences of Deception tells the story of Sloane and Killian. (First of all can I say how much I LOVE their names. They seriously are probably some of the best character names I have read because they just fit the characters so well!) Sloane and Killian have a past history together. Four and half years ago, they were on the fast track to starting up something fierce when a tragic and horrible event brought that all to a screeching halt. Flash forward to present day and Sloane is living unhappily with her horrendous Aunt Celine and Uncle Stephen. (Stephen isn't as horrendous, but he's no angel that one.)
Consequences of Deception is the story of what happens when Sloane and Killian are thrust back into each others lives for reasons you don't fully find out until much further into the story. Having these reasons revealed over the course of the book was phenomenal, and how they are revealed makes the story even more out of this world. Reading about Sloane and Killian over the course of the book was a truly a fabulous reading experience.
Let me also say that I absolutely adored Sloane's character. She is strong willed, doesn't apologize for how she feels, and is authentically raw and emotional especially when it comes to Killian. I have to be honest with the fact that for the first chunk of the book I severely disliked Killian, and when I say severely disliked I mean that I hated him! Sure he was gorgeous and talked in a way that made me want to melt, but he was a complete ass. And that is putting it lightly. (In his defense, his "reasoning" for acting the way he does is understandable in a really skewed way, but it was still very rough yet very enthralling to read.) Even through all the things he was doing to make me not like him, I found myself enraptured by him, and by a certain point in the book that will remain nameless, I was completely head over heels for his character. (Talk about some awesome f-ing character development, and I say that whole-heartedly for both of them!)
Both of these characters have past events together that make for some serious complications, and I mean serious. How Sloane and Killian handle those "complications" makes for some of the most emotionally gut wrenching yet beautifully written scenes I've ever read, and makes the story all the more spectacular. This book is so easy to dive head first into, and its title definitely rings true. This book follows what happens with those consequences of deception, and how those consequences seep their way into the many aspects of these characters lives.
I don't want to give away much of the plot line, but I will say it is full of twists and turns that will leave you breathless. Its got drama, some very raw and emotional moments, plenty of times that will make you want to hit someone, or cry, or laugh, or smile like a fool, and of course its got just enough romance to make you want to melt into a puddle asap. By the end of the book you will be on fire in more ways then one, and you will be sad to see the story end. (And just in case you were wondering, the ending is just as utterly fantastic as the rest of the story.)
If you didn't read anything I just wrote, and just skipped to the this point of my review just know that you need to read this book now. And I mean now. Go to Amazon, and one click this deliciously wonderful book now. NOW! Believe me, you'll be oh so happy you did!
Holy fucking shit..LOVED this book! Bossy, arrogant, rich and fucks like a champ! Killian is my new love..Full review to follow

*I received an ARC in return for an honest opinion*
Oh, how to start this review? Rhetorical question. Let me start out with telling you I read it in one night, although, the title itself is a deception. I myself, as a HUGE Ella Fox fan, did not read the book description and just dove in. I kind of like it that way so my focus isn’t hampered by expectations. I didn’t even read excerpts, as I wanted to keep my mind free of temptation. That said, this book completely took me by surprise. I’m not use to this kind of pace from Ella, nor am I used to the all-consuming feeling I felt toward the male main character. Ella has the expertise to flesh out these characters so that I have visceral feelings toward them and live for a few hours in her story. I loved it completely by the last sentence. Below you won’t find spoilers, I don’t write reviews to expose the bones. I write to highlight the meal. Let me just say, the title had me completely thrown in a different direction and I ate it up! Such a different meal for me, but still reminiscent in true Ella Fox style.
The nail-biting, when’s-the-shoe-going- to-drop, what-the-hell-is-going-on feeling kept me hooked and turning the page into the wee hours of the morning. Much like Ella’s other stories, the relationship was not the only element gluing me to the story. The suspense had me guessing through every page and it didn’t stop till the very end. Me likey!
At times (most of the book) I wanted to really, really, really hurt Killian. I’m not even sure if I like him now. Sloan was the perfect MC, strong, willful, and smart. She knew where she was going, but everlasting love kept a spark alive despite his abhorrent treatment of her. These two characters had a mostly happy upbringing and no baggage - up until the incident that changed their relationship. I adored that. Too many books out there are about secret pasts and the scars they leave behind. The one thing I absolutely have to say is that these characters stayed in character to the end. They didn’t change for each other, they molded to each other.
Because I am who I am and I was asked for an honest review, I would be remiss if I did not bring up a few things that bordered on making me want to ball my fists up and dig my nails into my palm. I feel strongly on forced sex and I felt a few scenes were right on the edge if not making me see shades of red. Yes, Slone loved him with all her heart and learned she liked a little kink (who doesn’t?), but ‘stop’ means 'no' in my eyes. Just because your body reacts, does not mean you are a willing participant. I think that’s one of the reasons I still have strong feelings against Killian. Plus, to me he did not prove himself worthy of Sloan, or her forgiveness, which I felt she gave too easily. I suppose I am a hateful, grudge-holding b*tch, that has not experienced this kind of love to understand how she could have forgiven him for everything he did. And he did it without question. That’s the other reason I still can’t get past.
In any regards, I did love the book despite my rant above. Ella has the mastery to weave a story that I cannot put down and is genius with her craft that makes me believe in this kind of love does exist.
I am a big fan of Ella Fox and I most definitely finished this book in a sitting. It was a great sexy read that was just shy of five stars for me. What Was Great: 1. The story really kept me guessing, which is one of the main reasons I read the book so quickly. 2. There was some majorly sexy scenes. My kindle was no doubt on fire. I did, however, feel like their chemistry was a little off in the beginning. The scenes were hot, but I felt like since their feelings were all over the place, I had trouble connecting..... 3. I LOVED the chapter we got from Killian's perspective---I wish the whole book had been alternating POVs!
The one main thing that kept me from giving this book five stars is that I felt like the last 75% or so of the book was rushed. The story came to a head and then it was over (at least that's what it felt like for me). I do appreciate that this book was not made into a trilogy (sometimes you just want one good book), but maybe it could have been longer and then I wouldn't have felt it was so rushed??
All in all, another great read from Ella Fox. She's auto-buy for me and will remain that way :)
4.5 Fantastic Stars! Can I tell you that I LOVED this book! It was steamy, and suspenseful and snarky and angsty. All the best elements combined in this batter of emotions that made for an exquisite read.
Sloan has loved Killian since she was a young girl of 17 trying to seduce him in her tiny bikini. Six years older than his next door neighbor, he assures her that they are meant to be together and if she still feels that way in 6 months, after she turns 18 and is no longer "jail bait" he will act on his feelings.
Fast forward 4 ½ years; Sloan lives with her uncle Stephen and his bitch of a wife, Celine in what is essentially a prison. She has little freedom, no access to her own money and too many restrictions to name. She has lost everything; her father is dead, her home is gone and most of all Killian hates and despises her. They rarely interact, and the few times that they did, he spouts out his venomous hatred for her.
That is all about to change. She will turn 22 in a few weeks, gain access to her inheritance and move the hell out. Freedom is so close she can taste it. Her only confidante is her best friend Demi and her parents. At a boring dinner party that she is required to attend for her aunt, in walks Killian who makes a beeline straight for her. In spite of Demi's best efforts, he strong arms Sloan into leaving with him. Being a man of few words, he dumps her in his car and drives to her house, where he has a moving van in her driveway. He tells her they are here to get her things. She assumes somehow he has control of her home and is dumping her ass out of it. She couldn't be more wrong.
"I'm not kicking you out, Sloane. I'm buying you." Whatever I thought before? It was all too generous. Killian just turned my life upside down with nine life-changing words. It hangs out there between us as I gape at him while I try to formulate a response. "Buying me...? This proves that you're insane! I'm not a commodity. What exactly can I do for you, Killian? Be your maid? The look he gives me is a lot like a warning and instinctively I know that whatever he says next isn't going to be good. "No, you're going to be my lover."
He is blackmailing her, using her love for Demi's family to make her come to him. He has paid off her uncle and aunt, will get her late father's company out of debt- all for the small price of her body. Money is no issue for him, he is a millionaire many times over, being a tech genius with multiple companies. He plans on taking her to Florida until he decides where they will go next. He owns her for the next year. She knows he wants revenge, but she has never understood why.
My plan is far from honorable, but it's damn good. Fu*# that-it's not just good-it's the perfect deception.
She has little choice and complies with his emotional blackmail. He has tight security on her, but she assumes this is because he is a very wealthy man and it is for him. He hasn't touched her yet, when will he claim what he considers to be his? One night she hears noises outside her bedroom-she opens the door and let's just say Killian is quite the alpha male ordering an older female to get on her knees and obey his commands Sloan is fascinated, hurt, jealous and repulsed all at the same time. Killian sees her, dismisses the woman and tries to talk to her, she refuses to speak to him. She plays it cool and won't let him see how much he hurt her.
This situation implodes and Killian finally takes what he considers to be his-having found out she is still a virgin, he acts out of character and is tender and considerate of her initiation into passion. Once these two start, there is no end to the physical intimacy for them.
"It's no secret-I've fu*#ed a lot of meaningless women. Hell, before now, it's never meant anything to me emotionally. I've always gone at it for the physical release. I can't turn back the clock on that. It happened and nothing can change it. But you know what? You're not in that category and never will be. Whatever came before doesn't hold a candle to five seconds of being inside of you. Even when I was telling myself that I was hate-fu*#king you, it still meant more."
But always he leaves her after, showering and going to another room. If he thinks she is remotely interested in someone else, he is furious. No one touches what is his!
There are many secrets about his family, her family and what caused him to change. Little by little the truth is coming out, but Sloan is so hurt she is almost numb. She can't stop her body's reaction to Killian, but she shuts off her emotions. He can't handle this, he doesn't want only her body. Can they ever break down their barriers, and why is she so heavily guarded?
This book has an element of suspense to it, and intrigue. At times I wanted to throat punch Killian, especially when he was having oral sex with the cougar. He likes his sex rough and there is some mild kink in the story. But that just adds to the deliciousness of it! And the epilogue! Sweet jezus, how I loved it!
"There's been so much ugly between us," I blubber. "I just want us to have a new beginning without misunderstandings, lies, and secrets."
Consequences of Deception is an amazing story of young love gone wrong, misunderstandings, betrayals, deception, and finding out how to forgive, and move forward once you are able to sort through all the years of bitterness.
I am a super fan of the Hart Series by Ella Fox, and her books are automatic one-clicks for me. I have to say that COD is probably my favorite book she has written to date. The characters are amazing, even the supporting characters made me fall in love with them. I am already hoping for a sequel for Sloane’s best friend Demi. I loved the banter between the two of them, as well as Sloane’s inner dialogue. One of my favorite things about reading Ella’s work is that is seems like I am talking to a dear friend. I love her writing style!!
Killian is just an over the top Alpha male. I started out loving him, then I kind of hated him, then I was just confused by him. Sloane was put through so much in her young life, you have to love her for her strength and resilience. The fact that she loves Killian, even though he seems to hate her so much made me love her even more. Their relationship is full of complications and pitfalls, but I was rooting for them the whole time.
Do I need to remind you this is an Ella Fox book? The sex scenes are super hot, and plentiful. Killian is a little Dommy, and I loved that. I’m pretty sure Sloane did too!
There are plenty of plot twists and turns to keep you occupied as well. It kept me on my toes, and I was surprised at several of the revelations that came out. Most of the story is told from Sloane’s POV, but we do get a tiny little bit of Killian’s POV toward the end, which made the entire story better, in my opinion.
ARC kindly provided by "Ella Fox" in exchange for an honest review (Thank you for this arc)
If I wasn't given an arc for this I probably would never have read it, being brutally honest the cover just didn't do it for me, it doesn't show case what this story is about at all and being a cover hoe I'm always drawn to the cover above all else..But getting over that I am glad I took the time and read this..
There are aspects in this story that should come with a warning, it will fuck with your mind, not dark or gritty as such just what the wanker Killian puts Sloan through and this is where the heading comes into play "Consequences of Deception" it's very fitting..
"Sex isn't always about champagne and roses princess, I think if you knew how wild it gets - you would run, you should run."
She should've listened to him and run for the hills!!
I hated Killian but loved Sloane her kick ass attitude and her Un-filletered mouth had me giggling at times throughout this..
I also thought going by the synopsis that it would be a dark-gritty read but it leans more towards erotica, unless I am immune to the dark and gritty shit that seems to fall in my lap lately..
So Killian buys Sloane for the amount of "Seven Million dollars" yep you read that right!! For a year, to be at his disposal to do with as he sees fit, and this guy has some hot as hell sexy shit installed for you..
So sit back and enjoy this sexy as fuck ride because it is hot!!
This is the story of Killian Brandt and Sloane Evans. They are 6 years apart and they are in love with each other.
Sadly, since Sloane is 17 and Killian is 23 years old, they can't have a relationship. On top of that tragedy happens and they never speak to each other for 4 years.
Now, Killian is back and he wants something from Sloane. But what Sloane doesn't know is that something bigger is going on.
I really enjoyed it and though I did hate Killian a lot, I did end up liking him.
I just finished reading this book and all I can say is WOW!! I'm still trying to catch my breath... Awesome wouldn't even come close to describing this story. That is the first sentence. I was sucked in from the beginning. This author can WRITE!!! I adored every single page of it and honestly i couldn't let it of my hands. An amazing story that shows you that even though lies can destroy lifes and change people and make them reveal their worst side can be defeated if true love exists between them. Intense, sexy and heart-breaking story. Definitely a must read ;)
***4 Pretty Frustrating and Deceptive but Hot and Enjoyable Stars!!!***
This is my first Ella Fox read and was gifted to me by my friend, Michelle, I got intrigued with the title and the synopsis, and I should have known that I will be frustrated at some point in the book. Not "I want to dnf" kind of frustrated but "Why what wtf are you doing oh no all those years wasted and you're an ass" kind of frustrated.
To summarize:
- Sloane and Killian were very close childhood neighbors and friends mainly because of Killian's younger sister, Shannon.
- Killian is 6 years older than Sloane.
- Sloane has been in love with Killian her whole teenage life, Killian knew about it and months before she turned 18, they sort of had an understanding about their "relationship".
- An accident happened and Killian cut off Sloane in his life for nearly 4 years until he ambushed her into going away with him.
- Sloane has no clue why Killian hates her, she has an idea though.
- Everything unravels about the whats and whys of the last 4 years in Killian and Sloane's lives…
I understand some of the reviews that I've read about Killian being a first-class a-hole, I definitely wanted to hammer his head until he gets back some of his human emotions back and stop being so furiously mean and harsh to Sloane. He really was a jerk especially that first time he and Sloane had sex and I felt bad for her.
"Once upon a time, I'd have given anything to have Killian touching my body, but not like this. Never like this."
Sloane was pretty though during that "getaway" with Killian, she spoke her mind and ultimately shut out her feelings when she's had enough. I can only imagine it's all she felt she can do to survive the situation that she was in.
"There's no point in arguing with him. There's no point in anything. Not anymore. My pain is my own."
And being a teenager at the time the accident happened, she made do and put up with the awful things her aunt and uncle did/said to her until she gets her inheritance and get far away from them. Although this seemed weak to a lot, I think it's smart and practical of her to think about preparing until she turns 22 and gets her money instead of staying out on the streets.
Killian and Sloane's story, although it started cute and sweet, is not all the time romantic and gentle but Ella Fox does write hot scenes in this book. All the consequences of Killian's (really, it was mostly Killian) actions following that accident from 4 years ago came stumbling out and it wasn't pretty, it was hurtful and absolutely regrettable. I wish the deception or at least the reason why Killian abandoned Sloane was more "deeper" than that.
But I still enjoyed it! There were no dull moments, only lots of "WTFs", "Awww", "Angry", and a little bit of "Sweet" moments I'm sure you'll find yourself hooked.
Stars: 4 stars! Recommended to: Those who like twists and turns on their books. Plus hot sex. POV: First person. Female POV. (I wish it was dual, I would love to get a peek at Killian's whole mind) Series: No. Cliffhanger: No. EXTRA COMMENT: I LOVE THE EPILOGUE!
Well, this book had certainly a lot of twists and turns and I was literally screaming at my kindle why the hell Sloane isn’t asking the most important question EVER in the 1st half of the book: WHY DO YOU HATE ME?
Nope, she doesn’t ask Killian what’s going on and just accepts that he hates her guts and openly shows it. I was like, “for real now?!?!” Come on, we’re women and we ALL want to know what’s up, we don’t give up until we know the truth… but nope, Sloane accepted her destiny.
So, after some tragic event 4.5yrs ago, her ones lover turned her back on her and they parted ways. He basically blew her off and told her to never ever cross his path again –nice huh. Of course Sloane had no effing idea what’s going on and gave up after several tries talking to him. Fast forward: Killian enters Sloane’s life again and basically told her to wrap up her belongings, to follow him, and leave her ‘home’ because he bought her –yep you read correctly, he effing bought her. According to him he made a deal with her uncle and now she’s his for one whole year and he can do whatever he wants with her *UGH.
Yep, Sloane is shocked because why would he buy her if he hates her so much. Yeah I asked me the same question…again, why didn’t she ask: WHY DO YOU HATE ME?
Calling Killian a jerk and ass would be an understatement in the first half of the book, even until the 65% mark. He was rude, mishandled her and lied. Of course we could tell that some spark of the old Killian was still lingering underneath but again, it wasn’t clear why he hates her guts – very frustrating.
Well I can’t tell you what’s going on but what I can say it that this book has some serious twists and turn, and when you find out the truth you’ll be like: NO FREAKING WAY, that’s messed up! But yeah way, it all happened and Sloan had to put up with some crazy sh!t.
Why I rated it only 3-3.5 stars is because most of the time I didn’t feel the story; it was more telling than showing. It was often too fast forward and I was like, ‘mmh oook, that was fast, too fast.’ I like to feel the character’s emotions and turmoil and not just by reading words – I need more dialogues, more heartache, more frustration, just anything. The other thing that threw me off a bit was how fast all of a sudden Sloane enjoyed the Fifty Shades style. I mean nothing is wrong with that but after some shocking news, she all of a sudden tells Killian to inflict pain on her so she forgets… He told her that this is his fetish bit she just got introduced to it and BAM she’s hooker, too.
Uhm, I think she turned overnight to a nymph or something. It wasn’t quite fitting to be honest. The second half of the book felt a bit too rushed and I couldn’t get over the fact that Killian, Mr Smarty-Pants never even asked Sloane about the truth himself!! Geez, wth is their problem. I mean yrs earlier she was his everything and he counted down the days until she’s 21 and then he doesn’t even bother to ask if the accusations were true?!?! Nope, this left a bitter taste in my mouth.
Don’t get me wrong I liked the book, it was ok but not WOW; I’ll def check out more of Ella’s books because this was my first and it woke my curiosity.
It’s no surprise, I’m Ella’s number one fan. From the very get-go, she hooked me with the Hart Family Series and I’ve been a loving fan ever since. One of my favorite things about Ella is that she delivers a sexy story but one that keeps me on the edge of my seat with unexpected twists and turns. I’m always trying to figure out what will happen only to have her completely surprise me. She details out a story that is woven so intricately…a true mastermind!
Consequences of Deception in a word, HOT. Killian has a way about him that when he walks in a room, panties start dropping or dripping or whatever. You get the idea. A few parts, I had to reread, because…you know…I needed to really grasp the concept. The delicious, sexy, image of Killian being naughty…yum!
But don’t worry, Sloan was just as naughty. That’s what I loved about it. Those two were always down to get their freak on…and they didn’t mind me watching. (he he he)
Here’s the deal. Sloan and Killian have history. They go way back. Things were supposed to go perfectly for these two but in stepped drama and put a wrench in their plans. Suddenly Killian hates Sloan and she is devastated. Fast forward a few years and the two of them are thrust into having to interact and deal with one another…much to the dismay of both of them. But, you can’t deny love. The chemistry between them is undeniable and soon they are all caught up in each other. Perfect ending? Not so much.
Someone has been deceiving the other one. Deception so great that you wonder if it is even forgivable. Can their love survive the consequences of deception? I guess you’ll have to find out. No worries, you’ll read it in one night because it is that FAB!!
I love Ella's books - especially the Hart family series and the Renegade Saints series but this book was completely different. There are not many books that take me through every emotion as I read them, Consequences of Deception did exactly that. I laughed, I cried, I held my breath and I thoroughly enjoyed the story. It's also a nice standalone story with a great epilogue so you know what really happens.
I also noticed that I usually devour books - with this one I didn't. I truly savored it. Although it's not a super long book, it did take me a couple of days to read, simply because there was such much going on and so many emotions attached that I wanted to take my time as to not miss anything.
Just simply amazing is what this book is. I think it should get more than 5 stars! I loved Killian. Don't get me wrong, there were times when I wanted to strangle him with his cocky attitude, but I don't think I would have liked him if he wasn't like that. He was a true alpha male. My heart went out to Sloane throughout the whole book. She just had so much happen to her throughout her life, and I just wanted to hug her. They balanced each other out, and both stayed true to their characters even with every new twist and turn of the story.
As always, Ella Fox knows how to captivate her readers and keep them on their toes trying to figure out what will happen next, not to mention all the steamy hot sex.
*I received and ARC copy in return for an honest opinion*
I had high hope for this book but it ended up being nothera predictable story and a plot that has been written time and time again.
17 year old girl in love with a strong older man. He turns from loving her to hating her and eventually buys her and "she is his to do with her what he likes" He owns her body and soul and goes out of his way to demean and embarrass her at every opportunity until he find out just how wrong he has been.
Of course he comes back with his tail between his legs and they have their HEA.
just didn't work for me but will appeal to readers who like neanderthals who love to inflict pain and embarrassment to the women they love.
This book will blow you the fuck away!! Amazing! 6 stars!!! It was beautiful and ugly, sweet and rough, sad and happy... The feelings were never ending reading this book and I'm so glad that I was allowed to be a part of it. I'd say hands down, anything Ella Fox has written gets 6 fucking stars! She's an amazing writer with so much passion. She throws thing at you out of left field, but everyone ultimately becomes better for it. LOVE LOVE LOVE this book, I will shout it from the rooftops so everyone can hear!!!
Super OTT but kind of fun. Having just finished a super boring book I was loving all the drama in this one. I rolled my eyes quiet a bit but still had fun with it either way.
It’s all pretty surface level. The author doesn’t stay in the scenes very long for them to be super impactful. I did wish we could have gotten more of the angsty stuff. I wish that the h being totally broken scene was longer and that the H had to live with his regret more.
Wow what an author this lady is amazing hot gritty read
Keep an open mind when reading there's more to killian than meets the eye
At first you'll love to hate him then you'll just live him
I don't want to give any of the plot away but if you love an alpha male who likes his sex hard and dirty, but loves an loves deeply this is going to be an new favourite for you
All I can say is OMG!!! This is an amazing book. Very well written with so many twists and turns. I fell in love with the characters in the prologue. Ella's books are steamy, hot and action packed. I am already reading it for a 2nd time because it was that great! Can't wait for more books by this author. Loved it!!!
"I was being a bad girl and I knew it, but I didn't care because the need to be with him was so all-consuming that it hurt."
Killian you are such a dick!!! Ok I am done with my rant..for now...This by far is the best book I have read this year! I don't give out many 5 star reviews, I am very picky and the book really has to appeal to me in every aspect, draw me in, keep me there, and want me coming back for more. THIS book did absolutely that!! Killian and Sloane story is so unique that you will have to keep turning the page to find out what could possibly happen next. So without further ado, let me give you a glimpse into their amazing story.
"Damn my stupid heart, I am still as head-over-heels in love with him as I was back before everything went to hell."
Sloane has been in love with Killian since she was fourteen years old. She swore to herself that he would be her one and only as soon as she turned 18. Then life intervened and Killian ended up hating her for something she had no control over. Four and half years later and her life has only gotten worse, but she only has to wait ten more days until her twenty-second birthday and her life will finally be her's again. But she never thought that Killian would come back into her life and mess all her dreams up....again.
I'm not kicking you out, Sloane. I'm buying you."
Killian had once thought Sloane was the perfect girl. Even though she was younger than him, he knew he would have her one day. Then tragedy struck and took away his last remaining family member. He turned his back on Sloane and swore he would never forgive her, much less help her with anything. Then it became clear that if he didn't, things wouldn't go well for Sloane. But did he care anymore?
"I'm laughing because you're still trying to get your pound of flesh when you've already won. I'm already broken and now you're just pissing in the wind. Take whatever you want, do whatever you want. Hurt me, fuck me, punish me..it doesn't matter. When you've gotten your fill, do what you've wanted to do all along and kill me."
The dirty talk in this book was so hot! The way Killian spoke to Sloane made my own legs squeeze together and look around for my own dirty talker. I hated Killian for more of the book than I loved him but once his motives became clear, I had a change of heart, well maybe it took me a few chapters, but I came around! This story was so unlike anything I have read in a long time! A perfect balance between angst, love, hot sex, and the knowledge of what people will do to each other even when they care for them deeply. I was shocked and awed at the wealth of emotions that were in this book and how it all played out. What a great read!!!!!
"Call me sappy, call me foolish, call me an idiot--I don't care anymore. I want a second chance with him, if he's willing to try."
