Told in real time, The Deposition continues the story of Mike Connolly, the-down-and-out attorney.
This time, Mike's story is told through the eyes of his friends—and his enemies. The woman he rescued from a life of prostitution has a lot to say, if she can stay alive long enough to say it.
Then there's the lawyer who wants to make certain she never does and the priest who won't talk even if it means losing his life.
They're locked in a high-stakes race to see who lives to tell the dark secrets of men in powerful places, and who dies to keep them quiet.
This book was rather different from the others in this series. Explained many of things that happened in the previous Mike Connolly Mystery series. The writing is superb but it seemed as though the writer pushed himself toward greater obscurity than in the past. Risky, but I like risk and I like writers who push themselves toward new forms of expression. Joe Hilley has written other things since this book was released and his writing has continued to mature. So, I hope he will return to this series and pick up the story once more. Great book. Enjoyed it very much.
This book has a main character who is an Episcopalian priest who is pulled in to a legal deposition that takes him to court twice for a judge's decision when he refuses to answer a question and then to one night in jail. He wasn't involved in a crime, but was on the periphery.
Interesting - and annoying to me the way the questioning went. I felt like it was probably a good representation of law and courts today....
