I love the Hathaway House series. Each book is a standalone but, when read in order, the books build on each other with beloved characters adding color to great stories. In Victor, Victor arrives at Hathaway House to heal, to heal the whole person. A part of his healing comes from a special lady. Bravo!.

This is book twenty two in Dale Mayer's "Hathaway House" series, all totally standalone and all gentle, heartwarming, romantic stories.
VA nurse Gerry was slightly envious of Victor Westridge, a patient that she had got to know well, Victor had been accepted to Hathaway House Rehabilitation Centre, a place with an outstanding reputation for their holistic treatment of military personnel with life changing injuries, Gerry would give anything for a chance to work there but as conditions there were so good, staff didn't leave, so posts rarely became vacant.
Gerry had a friend, Dawn, who was a pastry chef at Hathaway House, she made a bargain with Victor, she would help him with his huge pile of acceptance paperwork, she would introduce him to Dawn so that there would be a friendly face there, in exchange they would both put in a good word for her with Dani, the owner.
After his accident Victor was left minus a leg and a load of muscle, he was depressed and despondent, it could have been avoided, it was "friendly fire"
Hathaway House was everything and more than Victor expected, the staff were wonderful, the best at their jobs, empathetic, and after Gerry's introduction Dawn became a regular visitor.
As this story unfolds Victor is determined to take advantage of all that Hathaway House had to offer, he still worried about life after Hathaway House but urged on by Dawn and the rest of the staff his long journey began.
Advised by his therapist to find joy to enable him to overcome his depression and doubts, Victor did just that, he found joy helping with the animals, he found joy in the swimming pool but most of all he found joy in his long conversations and he growing closeness to Dawn. A beautifully told story of a gentle romance.

For years, Victor lives a successful, happy life in the military. Unfortunately he is sidelined before his time when he is seriously injured by friendly fire. After months of therapy and surgery in a VA hospital, he is very depressed because he is still in constant pain and his body still seems “more broken than whole.” Because of that, he is miserable and has lost faith in humanity. Then his nurse recommends that he move to Hathaway House, a rehab center that is well known for its success in rehabilitation of severely injured people.
When Victor arrives at Hathaway House, he immediately meets Dawn who is pastry chef in the kitchen. She has devoted her life to working and living at Hathaway house. Her goal is to support and help the patients who need her.
Victor and Dawn immediately form a very strong friendship. They spend hours together discussing deep philosophical subjects such as the meaning of happiness and joy in life. They also share their problems and fears as they offer each other advice and encouragement
Everything is wonderful until it suddenly hits Dawn that, when Victor completes his rehab, he will be leaving the center. That is when she realizes that she will be devastated when he leaves. She then decides that she needs to protect herself. Dawn’s anxiety causes her to choose an absurdly selfish way to do this. Her decision will surprise readers.
All-in-all, readers will love these two intelligent and courageous main characters. Neither of them cares about a person’s looks or what they can or cannot do. They look deeply inside a person to assess their character based on their unseen traits that are more important.

While Victor is going through the process of getting into Hathaway House, one nurse went above and beyond to help him with the paperwork. Gerry's friend Dawn works there in the kitchen with someone named Dennis and she promises to let her friend know he might be coming.
On Victor's first day, he gets a visitor he instantly feels a connection to. He's exhausted from the travel and hopes he's not expected to do anything much. That first visitor turns out to be Dawn. Gerry called her to let her know he was on his way there. Daen and Victor agree that Gerry should be working at Hathaway House, little did they know Dani had overheard what they were saying. Dani says they would definitely take a look at Gerry's résumé. Then she got down to the business of paperwork. Dani agrees to send it to him digitally and leaves him and Dawn.
The business of rehab is exhausting yet rejuvenating as Victor winds his way through the process. He also frequents the Vet Clinic seeking joy in his life. Dawn is a frequent visitor, and they also meet for meals when they can. Their conversations are insightful, and often Victor takes his reactions to them to his psychologist.
I love the way this book shows how each aspect of treatment has impact on the whole. Including the interactions with others, the animals and the developing relationship.

Dawn was so upbeat and refreshing, just the sort of person to brighten up any day, she loves her job and meeting people. Victor is relieved to get his chance at Hathaway and to find out if he can actually make some progress in healing and having a life, meeting Dawn encourages him to keep focus but also think about his and possibly their future. Inspiring story of recovery and a journey to build a future, finding joy in life again after being so down and finding love. Deep emotional conversations and wonderful characters set in calm scenic and beautiful surroundings, nothing could be better to provoke healing both mentally and physically, the animals as well just add to the comfort. I soak up this series with every single story, they have me empathising and smiling as I read, loving getting to know new characters while also getting a fix of regulars like Dani, Dennis and Stan, plus a few others. Fabulous story full of joy and hope.

I really enjoyed reading Victor . This story is part of the Hathaway House series . This story is Victor WestRidge and Dawn the Hathaway House's pastry chef . Victor arrives at the rehab center and meets Dawn the both are friends with Gerry a nurse at the hospital were Victor just came from . She told both about each other . They feel like they already know each other a bit . As the spend their breaks together and grow closer Victor's doing well with rehab and therapy . Dawn unfortunately fears he'll be leaving soon . Their signals get crossed and could set back Victor's recovery . This is a beautiful emotional romance . The characters are unique and wonderful . I highly recommend taking the time to read .

Finding joy is the key
Victor knows he has a journey to take but he doesn't realise it's not just the physical journey of healing and physiotherapy, but also a journey of self discovery and facing some hard truths. I like that Victor and Dawn fall into an easy relationship, almost without realising it, although Dawn disappoints me with how she deals with uncertainty and hard decisions. Thankfully they both realise that healing and moving forward is easier if they do it together and with complete honesty. Whilst Dawn disappoints, Victor is easy to like and although there are times he is hard on himself and maybe pushes himself a little too hard, he gives others more leeway than they might deserve.

After an accident that ended his military career Victor is struggling with both the physical and emotional aftermath. He isn’t pleased with the progress he has made so the opportunity to attend Hathaway House could put him on the right path especially once he meets Dawn.
Dawn enjoys at her job at Hathaway House, and it fulfills her in ways she never expected. She feels an immediate connection with Victor, and it isn’t long before deep feelings develop, and she finds herself torn between keeping her distance and taking a chance on what they could have together.
This is a heart wrenching story about love, healing. overcoming the challenges that life throws at you and building a future even if it wasn’t the one you expected

I don't think I can ever get enough of Hathaway House. It's always grey to meet the old team and one new ones along the way. Dawn is the one who makes all the delicious pies and desserts for the staff and patients at the centre. Victoria there together help in being the best version of himself. As they both get closer, one starts to pull away as they realise the finality of the end of treatment we where they go from here. I loved both the characters and just like in real life they both had flaws of maybe overthinking, communication problems and where they stand. It was great to see the work through their problems and realise that although both were hurting that they were having an impact on each other. I can't wait for the next book.

It takes Victor quite awhile to finally get his acceptance into Hathaway House. Now that he is going, it takes the help and encouragement of his nurse, Gerry, to fill out the remaining paperwork and finally get on his way.
Dawn is a bright spot in Victor’s Day. She is always happy, encouraging and willing to help in any way she can. It doesn’t hurt that she is a fantastic pastry chef and brings him surprise treats when he least expects it.
This story is very introspective for Victor and has him looking deep within himself to find what makes him happy now and to look to his future. He also needs to find where Dawn fits into his life and what she has planned for hers.
A very loving and heartfelt story, full of hope and promise!

Victor has gotten into Hathaway house to heal and try to figure out what he wants to do next. Dawn works as the pastry chef and just wants to make everyone happy. When she meets Victor for the first time it's like they already know each other thanks to Gerry who took care of Victor before and now they have this connection. As they get to know each other and continue their journey we see them start to find their joy.

This one focused more on Dawn as the primary character rather than Victor which I liked as well as the fact that they got to know about each other before Victor arrived due to a mutual friend.
It also highlighted the stress working in a place like Hathaway House can be especially as they have to run such a tight ship to be able to offer the help they do.

Friendly fire can be as devastating and any other as Victor has found. His trip to Hathaway House describes friendly in the most positive of ways with Dawn as a plus he definitely did not expect. It's fun to watch their relationship grow. It's heart warming to find so many caring people in one spot and watch them grow. Another winner in the Hathaway House series!.

When a mutual friends helps 2 people meet, there is fireworks or at least a slow burn.

Dawn a cook is looking into her friends new arrival and her life changes as well.

Victor is excited to be going to Hathaway House. He meets Dawn, who is a friend of a nurse from Victor's last rehab facility. Dawn and Victor get along great, but do have a hiccup along the way. This series always leaves me smiling, and looking forward to the next novel in the series. This was another wonderful Hathaway House novel.

This is an well-written and heartwarming story in the Hathaway House series, it can be read as a standalone story. Victor is accepted into Hathaway House for recovery with his injuries. He meets Dawn who is friendly and a ray of sunshine in his days. They have an easy going friendship that deepens. Sweet story, likable characters.

Victor comes to Hathaway House hoping it is as good as the people say. On arrival he meets a friend of his former nurse, Bettina who befriends him. As time passes Victor and Bettina begin to form a real friendship which helps him in his healing process. Can they find a way to continue that friendship when it's time for him to leave.

This book was a charming refreshing book 📖 . I enjoyed the author showing someone using real world tactics to overcome his depression. Very delightful to watch Victor and Dawn fall in love.

Heartwarming, thought provoking, entertaining. Victor lucked into the Hathaway House. Dawn is a baker there. Victor is dealing with his loss of limbs as well as depression. He knows he is dealing with depression and does his best to circumvent. Dawn is outgoing, friendly and connects with Victor. This book was more about the emotions in dealing with physical challenges and relationships. We see very little of Shane (his physio) or what transpires there, instead we feel with Victor. I enjoyed Victor, but I felt like there was no clear conclusion with Victors book. Maybe he will figure in the next one too, I am not sure. This series is always a winner on the feels, on the remembering what our wounded go through. Thank you for the arc. I feel for Victor, it's one thing to be injured in war, but "friendly fire" can be a hard pill to swallow. Dawn's character was ok, but she seemed more concerned about herself and him leaving and should think more about his recovery. HEA.
