The novel sold 15 million copies and was winner of numerous awards; it was included in the list of the one hundred best books in Spanish in the last twenty-five years, made in 2007 by eighty-one Latin American and Spanish writers and critics.

英語で読んですごく良かったので日本語でも読んでみた。日本語の訳はきっと素晴らしいのだろうけれど、英語で読んだ方が楽しかった。翻訳本にありがちなのだが、外国語独特の回りくどい表現を訳すと表現がとってもしつこく感じる。この本はまさにそうだった。そこがちょっと残念。英語だとさらっと読み流せるのになぁ（たぶん、第二言語でバイリンガルほと理解できてないから）。それでも、やっぱりこの本は素晴らしかった。

バルセロナ、この本のおかげでいつか絶対に行ってみたい場所になった。
