Au village, c'est l'effervescence ! « Il était une fois », le conteur, est revenu. Comme il n'a plus de mains, il anime ses marionnettes avec les pieds. Ses histoires ne sont pas toutes vraies, mais ce sont de jolis mensonges, de ceux que l'on garde au coeur toute sa vie et qui, sous le soleil africain, vous aident à supporter une existence parfois pénible. Les belles histoires survivent et rendent immortels ceux qui les racontent. Les griots que sont Zidrou et Raphaël Beuchot en savent quelque chose.
Prix écureuil découverte 2012 en partenariat avec la Caisse d'Epargne.

La verdad es que me hamparecido mas flojo que otros comics que lei de Zidrou. Un personaje muy bondadoso el cuentacuentos en una sociedad cruel como solo las dictaduras de Africa pueden serlo. No termino de entender muy bien que quiere mostrar con el Yeti que va encogiendo o la mujer esperando al principe

Como se espera en una historia de Zidrou , es una historia profundamente triste pero en conclusión muy bonita. Admiro mucho la capacidad de este autor para dotar a las historias de humanidad y tocar la fibra sensible.
La ambientación creada por el dibujante es excelente, y he disfrutado especialmente de los diseños de las marionetas.

I loved all of the characters in general -besides the EVIL police- and how they introduced themselves but I wanted to know why the ex-architect became a hut-village barber and what caused his boy's condition. He hints at it by repeating "always stay on the line" and such but who beat him for what reason? Then there were other details that I felt had to have been written but got editorially cut or whatever due to its stout 96 pages.

The art totally fits the story even though his "line" sometimes looked unsure or unfinished to me but doing his own color was a mistake. If not direct coloring, that should be done by someone who does it for a living if not up to their standards.

Back at my days digging out our roots. Soulemanye is a puppeteer with no hands that plans to bring joy again to his hometown. Things hadn't change much since his departure and once again he's gotta face Salif'srage, the love Myriam feels for him, the dreams that keep running lil' Goalkeeper and the helplessness that cheeses him off in his crusade for storytelling.
Zidrou and Beuchot landed a masterpiece with "Le Montreur d'histoires", first part of the African Trilogy. There's magic and wisdom in their pages, even fiction can't be neutral when it's whole world crumbles down. Only the stories are here to save us, the rest is just a triviality.

Excelente historia y excelente ilustración, soy un amante de la tradición oral y creo que por eso este libro me llegó al corazón, está al principio visto desde la inocencia de una niña africana la cual quiere escuchar un cuento de "erase una vez" pero todo lo que se esconde tras el personaje de este titiritero es una historia sumamente triste y cargada de emociones que nos recuerda que nunca debemos dejar de soñar con cuentos por mas fantasiosos que estos sean.
Calificación: 4.8

De poppenspeler moet verhalen vertellen. De politiechef verbiedt het vertellen van verhalen. Het conflict eindigt met een opgehangen skelet dat zijn verhalen blijft vertellen en 's nachts de chef nachtmerries bezorgt. Maar vooral krijg je veel mooie, fabelachtige verhalen binnen het verhaal. Verzinsels die toch spiegels voor de werkelijkheid vormen. Want, ja: verhalen worden geboren om nieuwe verhalen voort te brengen.
Goed opgebouwd, warme tekenstijl die toch ook gruwel durft te tonen.

Triste y esperanzador a la vez. Un cuentacuentos ambulante se enfrenta a la prohibición de narrar historias y consigue movilizar a la población local frente a la tiranía de unos pocos.
