Secret Agent 6th Grader #1

Secret Agent 6th Grader

Rate this book
My name is Brody Valentine (please don't make fun of my last name), and this is the story of how I accidentally became a 6th grade secret agent at my school. My life is plain and boring, but I do my best to keep it that way. That's why when a dangerous secret fell into my lap, I wasn't exactly jumping for joy. Everything I knew to be true was completely flipped around and suddenly I've found myself buried in special codes and conspiracies. Now I'm being hunted after because my brain knows a secret so huge your head would explode if you heard it.

The summary didn't impress me but I thought I'd still give it a shot since it's by the same author of the Diary of the 6th grade ninja. Btw I'm still waiting for the 13th book of the diary of the 6th grade ninja. Anyway. It is so much more than the summary and was a really cool book.

2.5 stars, rounding up

This was cute. What I really liked is that the scenario is something I believe would actually happen with sixth graders (minus the larger than life hall monitors--but I can imagine that they would FEEL larger than life). I mean, an underground candy dealing ring that leaves kids strung out on a sugar high? THAT COULD HAPPEN. Kids creating puzzles for their friends to solve? That could actually happen. One of the disguises was too ridiculous to be believed, but it was funny, so I'll give it a pass.

Verging on a rip-off

Let's start with the good parts. The story is as you would expect and would appeal to the target audience. Nothing spectacular but enough to keep children interested.

The bad part is the amount of filler in this book. Almost a quarter of it is devoted to advertising other books in other series.

If the authors insist on packing this out with so much advertising content, they should seriously consider reducing the price by 25%. I can't help but feeling slightly ripped off.

I think it is a very interesting book. It was action packed and kept the reader in suspense. I like how funny the book was. The setting was in one day at school which you would think was bleh. But later in the book it got really interesting and fun. The characters were working together on clues and acting funny. The plot wouldn't really happen in real life but the reactions were believable. You should read this book because it is interesting and fantastic and the author put in a lot of work.

Nice... but could have a bigger timeframe

This book took place in an entire day, I think that it should have been longer. I also read the book really quickly, so maybe it could have been longer too. But it did have a good story from what they could manage.

So interesting

The book kept my eight year old son's attention from beginning to end. He can't wait for us to begin reading the sequel together. This book has a lot of action and twists and turns - a fun book to read out loud.

This just REALLY needed an editor. I know I am not the target audience and my son did enjoy it but I have read many children's books both with my son and on my own and this was honestly so poorly written and formatted. The 2 stars are for my son's enjoyment. I was so happy when we could stop reading it.

This book falls into the genre of mystery. A great book for students who may say that they just don't like reading or books! A unique feature of this book is how funny and relatable it is for upper elementary students! This book could be used in a 5th or 6th grade classroom.
