Evie Grayson has always had a flair for fashion, so when she is promoted to the General Office at Dawson's hosiery factory in Leicester, she rises to the challenge. But then Evie stumbles upon sinister goings-on in the accounts department and, to her surprise and confusion, she realises her spiteful sister Florrie could be involved...

Despite her career success, romance has always eluded Evie, and it is not until she meets Edward Bradshaw that she falls deeply in love. But why are their families so opposed to the union? And what is Evie's mother trying to conceal about the past?

Despite looking and sounding dated, there were so many themes within Evie which were relevant today; family secrets, unsuitable marriages, siblings arguing. Evie was an easy, enjoyable read.

This was one of those sweet stories that has just about everything thrown in. A little bit of a mystery, a touch of nastiness, a touch of doubt and a lot of love. This is one of those feel good chick lit books that will keep you out of bed until it's finished.

I love this book :)
It was one of my favourites when I was younger and i re-read it every year, if not more. Despite a lot of tragic happenings, the book is mainly happy and is incredibly sweet!! The main characters weren't even too annoying, unlike most books.
