The Daedalus Rift: A Time Travel Adventure

Rate this book
Finn Tanner, captain of the ore ship Daedalus, accidentally discovers a rift in space that hurls his wrecked ship forward forty-three years. Everyone he knew is either dead or far older, including his former fiancée, Riva. Enemies conspire to take what little he has left, but new friends help him in his attempt to rebuild his ship and pull off a time-bending experiment to return him and his ship to the past. Don’t miss this fast paced novella that one reviewer called, “one of the best time travel adventures I've ever read.”

About the author

I am a long-time contributor to, and Preferred Author on the web site WRITING.COM, where I go by the author handle “Horseman”. My story Déjà vu was published in the Blueberry Lane Books anthology Drastic Measures, and my story Middle Age Discount was published in the Wynwidyn Press anthology The Writing.Com Anthology 2012. I live in Seattle, Washington.

I've written in many genres, but my favorites are speculative fiction, combined with action/adventure and a bit of romance thrown in for good measure.

Time Travel, Familiar Terrain
The story was engaging, though it leaned heavily on familiar tropes. A character is cast through time and returns to a world irrevocably changed—a premise I’ve seen often. Still, the twist near the end was a pleasant surprise, and the conclusion landed well. Unfortunately, I struggled to connect with the characters; they felt more like narrative devices than fully realized individuals. Their emotional depth never quite came through, which made the journey feel less impactful than it could have been.

A wonderfully imaginative read

As a fan of hard sci-fi, I often have a hard time suspending disbelief long enough to enjoy a story, even one I've written! By keeping a quick pace, the author kept my mind on the story instead of the details. A refreshing story with a great surprise at the end! Will be checking out his other works for sure.

Good story lines(s) I like time travel

Very thought provoking, I like a good time travel story. The story was too short, there were a few grammatical errors. (If you need a good proofreader......) Overall, a job well done. I recommend this book.

I like to try new or different authors from time to time. So for me I went into this with interest yet average expectations. I was greatly rewarded. This was a terrific read and a wonderful trip thru the Daedalus Rift. Looking forward to more from this author.

Great book

This was a short read but really great. Very believable characters with the potential for great back stories. This should have been 300 pages.

A Kindle Unlimited review follows without a repeat of the synopsis, or a spoiler ending.

This speculative sci-fi novella was an enjoyable read. For an expanded short story, I was surprised to find it free of wordiness, yet, disappointed with plot holes and a lack of sub-plots. The story was unique and the ending delightful. In my opinion, this could be expanded into a short or possibly full novel with the addition of further character backstory, sensory phrasing, and sub-plots. The Character interaction appeared rushed to get to the technical narrative.

What I liked the best about this creative tale from the imagination of Mr. Horseman is the ending. But, you must read it to find out, remember, no spoilers from this Country Granny.

A really good adventure into the head-scratching world of time travel, paradox and avoiding its creation. This one had the advantage of being space-based so there's an added bonus.
Solid, likeable characters, some great humour and a nice twist in the tale that still has me thinking about it days later.
Definitely worth a read.
