History has referenced him but not by name. The leaders of the Elite race thought they had imprisoned him forever, they were wrong. Vercin has returned from his captivity to extract vengeance on the world and claim his throne once again.
The Elite race is at the brink of war, but all hope is not lost. Connor Moore has passed the trials, the ancient set of tests designed to prove or disprove would be judges. His problems; however, are far from over.
Vercin has discovered a way to dormant the Elite gene. What makes matters worse is that he also has Laren. Connor is soon faced with choices that will not only impact him but the future of man and Elite alike. The board is set, the pieces are ready, and the fate of the world will be decided by the victor.
I'm Jonathan, a husband, father, and writer. I write because that's what I was born to do and I love doing it. Because of the support from awesome people like you, I get to do it full-time.
May contain spoilers… Loved loved this book, Jonathan has had me hooked on this series from the beginning. So reading the third instalment of this series was a pleasure as everything comes together in this book. Yes yes Connor ends up with the girl I have wanted him to from the beginning and boy does she come through for him in the end. At one point I was thinking, “No don’t you dare. Connor needs you.” But by the end of the book I was smiling these two are so right for each other. Connor finally gets to fight his enemy, all the trails, all the training, and letting the beast within out all comes to ahead with an epic battle scene. With most battle scenes that I have read they are over so quickly but thank god Jonathan didn’t do that. He described and wrote the battle scene perfectly I could see everything that was happening in my mind’s eye very clearly. And yes I cheered at the end because I got so involved. You see Connor become the man he was meant to be, he’s honourable and cares for his elite family. So he truly deserves his title as “The one Judge.” I also loved the way the book ended, who doesn’t love a kick ass woman. Thank you Jonathan I have loved this series and I will hold out for another story that features Connor and the gang.
I have loved this trilogy from the first sentence of the first book and would be just as happy if I got to spend little more time with the characters. I feel like I know each and every one of them personally and that they are friends who are about to move away for good. This is a plea for maybe a chance to find out how things went after for them. :) The characters have from the beginning been very well fleshed out and real, whether they were good guys, bad guys, or somewhere in between. They react and interact in a way that feels genuine to who they are supposed to be. They are a part of this world and you have no doubt about that for a minute. This story begins directly as the second book ends, with the Island playing host to many Elite families and preparing for war.
Connor Moore passed the ancient tests which would declare him as the Judge and been accepted by the five Elite families as their leader in this fight. The most important thing for Connor at this moment however is the fact that Laren has been taken and how quickly they can get to her rescue. Lu wants to run off without a plan but Connor and his father understand they need to be sure of what they do.
When Laren is found it is discovered that Vercin has found a way to turn off the Elite gene, which means he could destroy them without much effort if it is used as a weapon. Connor does not wish to kill but he may find that Vercin is not going to give him any choice, it is a matter of kill or be killed. The final battle for the future of both mankind and Elites is drawing near and everyone will have to sacrifice to keep from being overrun by a tyrant who would be king.
This had one of the best battle scenes I have ever read! It was seen from multiple points of view which give you a glimpse of how things were going in varying locations around the area of battle and allowed you to check in with characters who you may have been worried about. This was visual and visceral for me as I held my breath fearing that someone I cared about would be killed or injured badly. I think that everyone needs to read these books and enjoy the growth of a boy to a man.
Sigh...like one reviewer stated, I was also expecting so much more from the final battle. For a super race of Vampires called "elite" the battle was pretty sub par.
Lost interest during the trials of book 2...finishing that book was a trial in itself (Vampire boxing? Ok). Hoped book 3 would redeem itself because the first one was decent enough.
It did not.
I didn't really feel like anyone was in any danger, Harry Potter and all the wand waving in that last battle gave a better sense of danger then the most powerful Elite ever did. Never really saw Vercin do anything that made me go wow, that's one evil dude. Seems like all he wanted to do was play some chess.
I recommend The Last Hunter by Jeremy Robinson, more action, a little more UF and gritty.
I lo ed this series enough that I read all three books in the same day and now I'm going to start on a different series by this author and pretend that I'll be able to put it down and go to sleep in the next few hours. I found this author by accident last week when one of his short stories was part of an anthology of sci-fi writers and have read very little since that wasn't by him. If you enjoy sci-fi or super hero type story's at all then I highly recommend this series.
I enjoyed the first two books but feel a little disappointed with this one. Some grammatical errors had me reading a sentence several times to get what word should have been used. Good series but could have ended better.
