About the author

A background in science, education and journalism has been the perfect foundation for author Camilla de la Bedoyere. She studied zoology and geology at Bristol University, and has subsequently written or edited more than 200 books for children and adults, many of which aim to explain and explore the natural world and our relationship with it.

Random dog facts interspersed with lots of nice photos and illustrations. It's just so random it's a bit dull to read it for very long at a stretch. I ended up picking away at it a little at a time for over a month.

Also, the title assures us there are 100 facts, but the book actually includes extra facts in the captions and in bonus circles inserted throughout. I'm not sure whether to be happy for the bonus material or irritated by the lack of accuracy in the title.

I was a bit rattled to see a traditional name for female dogs dropped casually into one quiz question with no previous definition of the term. Some parents may prefer to not deal with that word in a book intended for children.

This book give facts about puppies. In the book, there were many images so children can understand what they are reading. It talked about the life of a dog and things to know. I enjoyed this book and thing it could be a great informative book. Children in 1st or 2nd grade would enjoy this. The writing is very easy to understand and includes examples. This can be used by a younger student to read and hopefully convince their family of why they need a dog! You can use it in a classroom to teach persuasion and how knowledge helps this.

This is a great series for children who like "snippets" of information, and the series covers a HUGE range of subjects. These books present information in a very easy-to-read format - it doesn't need to be read in any order; a child can just flick to a page and read a little fact. Children who like trivia like Guinness World Records books will like this series, too.
These books would be useful when beginning to teach primary school children how to do basic research and write short reports.
These books are often reprinted every few years, with updated graphics and appealing layout (I'm sure updated information if needed, too), so I'd recommend looking for the most recent edition if you can.

While this book was full of interesting facts, I am not sure how much I would trust it. The author has no information about herself or her credentials in her book and I could barely find anything online about her, either. Some of the facts in the book were also biased. You could maybe use this book just as a basic introduction, but anything deeper than that, I would stay away from this book and pick a different one.
