Life is good at Starfort Collectibles until the owners, Caitlin and Trevor Fulmer, acquire a beautiful statuette with a murky past. Shortly thereafter, mysterious hauntings wreak havoc on the couple when a ghost in the attic threatens retribution. Caitlin presses her coven for help before the ghost succeeds in meting out deadly punishment—on Trevor.

It's been a while since I read book 1 in this series and I will admit I had a bit of a tough time keeping all the different bit characters straight. Caitlin and Trevor, I was a-okay with, but Caitlin's witchy friends and the various people who popped in and out of the narrative sometimes took me a minute to place.
Nobody fret, I figured things out. *raises fist in victory*
Much like book 1, Caitlin is scrambling to figure out who or what is causing the odd disturbances and upheavals in her life. From the physical (items moving and an attic with attitude) to the emotional (her fear for Trevor's well-being), at least she has the help and support of her coven.
There were times when I wanted to give Caitlin a good shake. I do understand her not wanting to worry her husband, but when something potentially deadly could be hanging out in your attic I think sharing is a good idea. The better to prepare for it if did try to attack, right?
The overall story was interesting and I'm curious how the...erm, bad thing managed what they managed. (That's intentionally vague for all you spoiler-phobes out there. You're welcome.) Love love LOVE the addition of the new pet (total softie here. I totally own that.) and I'm curious how he'll help out in the future.
Drawing Down the Shade is the next installment in Juli D. Revezzo's Antique Magic series, and I am thrilled to see it "hitting the shelves"! DDS reacquaints us with Caitlin and Trevor as they continue to settle into their new lives: a new business, new responsibilities, and a newly-rediscovered strength in their commitment to each other, no matter the cost.
After the events in the previous books, Caitlin is a touch jumpy when it comes to the supernatural rubbing elbows with her husband, so when the building Trevor's antique shop is in begins to show signs of being haunted, she quickly takes to the task of finding out all that she can. Is the place haunted? Had it been before or is this a new haunting? Is something after Trevor, or is the location simply happenstance? Is Caitlin being singled out by a vengeful goddess, or does this have nothing at all to do with the business her family is tied up in? Caitlin does not allow the unknown slow her down in the least -- her commitment to her family compels her through her fears and gives her courage when others might simply flee for safety.
I've waxed poetic previously about the relationship between Trevor and Caitlin, but it continues to be the backbone of this series, and Ms. Revezzo does a fantastic job of making that shine throughout.
One word of warning: this is decidedly not a stand-alone book. This is part of a series. Too often I've seen reviews given on not-book-one of a series, complaining that it didn't make any sense without reading the first book. You could, in theory, pick this up and read it as a first book, and you could likely even follow it. Do yourself a favor, though: start with The Artist's Inheritance and Caitlin's Book of Shadows!
First time reading this author and it was most enjoyable to read and could follow along even though I had missed the first one. Caitlin and Trevor are a adorable couple and fell in love with them right away. She also has some loyal friends that stand by her through thick and thin, even hairy at times. Humor is woven through out and was chuckling so at times. It would seem they get their share of challenges and lots of elements in the mix of those challenges. Ghosts seem to be a normal occurrence that has to be learned to take in stride. A pesky air conditioning shaft and a statuette seem to be the center of the troubles and the mysteries that need solved. Learning as you go seem to be what Caitlin has to do being she has no periods in between from the otherworld. Very intriguing storyline and breeze to read through. Of course there is romance included because these two love each other very much being married to each other. Very supportive of each other and like reading that. Love is indeed needed to conquer in this story the things that go bump in the night and day. Mischief maker also reappears that is not quite handled as previously thought. So glad of the way the ending is handled also to the effect all is well that ends well till the next encounter that is, and I have a feeling that this couple will certainly face it together as they did in this one. Received an arc for honest review for LOP (Lover's Of Paranormal)
**I received this book in exchange for an honest review. Lovers of Paranormal, LoP**
Drawing Down the Shades is one of those books that you luck out on. You hope for the best and pray it comes through. This is one for me. As I started reading this book, I knew it was going to be good. I love the premise that followed through to the last page. The situations that arise are quite good, humorous at times and had me wanting to finish the book just to see how it turned out. I loved the characters. They all brought something to the story. Well written and well thought out. A definite add to your tbr list. Recommended read.
The second book in the Antique Magic series builds on the first, with Cait's friends becoming closer and more involved in her life and her witchy ways. As with The Artist's Inheritance and Caitlin's Book of Shadows (a novella), I just inhaled Drawing Down the Shades because I didn't want to put it down. Once again, Cait must rescue her beleaguered husband from paranormal phenomenon while trying to keep evil at bay. Inheriting a spirit dog was a nice touch. The imp was particularly creative in his dastardly manipulative way with people in another time. One of the things I especially like about this series is the humor that is mixed in with the eeriness. And Beryl's blueberry muffins.
I enjoyed this book. Poor Trevor is wavering again, on the verge of being possessed by a spirit or worse, and his wife has to figure out how to make things right. Fortunately, nascent witch Caitlin has the help of her trusty coven and an awesome spirit dog to help. Of course a particularly awful imp is to blame, but nothing is ever really clear when you're dealing with the spirit world! I liked Caitlin's spunk as she dealt with this current crisis, and I particularly enjoyed the dog. Good read.
