A very good introduction for someone that wants to learn about oil painting techinques. express in a language easy to understand. I really learned a lot with this book. Now my wish is to find his book about oil pastel techniques, because I started working with that kind of painting.

My favourite book on oil painting! I take it with me, no matter how far I've moved.....from California to Israel, and now Alaska. This is my go to book for Oils.

Excellent starter book for oil painting. This book deals a lot with the nuts and bolt of the Chemistry of oil painting more than the techniques but is extremely useful in that aspect. The only drawback is that it was written in the 1990s so there have been some technological updates since then but the basics are very helpful.

I love this book. I checked it out at the library so many times that I finally broke down and bought my own copy and I'm so glad I did. I've been painting for years but this book continues to teach me things. It has the best explanation of glazing techniques that I've found. I'd never had the confidence to attempt glazing, mostly because I didn't understand how it was done, but this book inspired me to give it a try and so far, I'm enthralled. It also has in-depth information on oil mediums, grounds, paints, brushes, just about anything you want to know about oil painting materials. The section on mediums alone is worth the price I paid for the book. I have several shelves full of art how-to books, but this one is my absolute favorite.
