He’s the heartless billionaire I loathe, my brother’s best friend, and strictly forbidden. Until he needs a fake girlfriend, and he makes me an offer I can’t refuse…
Miles Becker was my guilty obsession for a decade. The gorgeous troublemaker who was my opposite in every way. Until one awful night made me swear I’d never speak to him again.
When his fiancée books me to shoot their wedding photos, it feels like a cruel twist of fate. But the marriage is called off at the last minute. And instead of the refund I can’t afford to give, Miles demands something else. A date. To his ex-fiancée’s wedding.
Pretending to love the man I hate is easier than I expected. Miles kisses me like this relationship is real and he protects me like I’ve always been his. Until I’m not sure if he’s ever hated me at all.
But one thing hasn’t changed — we can never be together, or I risk losing everything that matters.
One week with the man I’ve never been able to forget. One bed. One rule — don’t fall in love.
Sophia Travers has been reading romance novels for as long as she can remember (sorry, Mom, for stealing all those books and hiding them under the bed). Ever since she discovered that writing romance is just as addicting as reading it, she's been populating fictional worlds with smitten heroes and ambitious heroines. She loves enemies to lovers, second chances, heroines who know what they want, and lots and lots of angst.
"I had sex with tons of women, some of which you actually saw me with, but it's fine because I was picturing you. But I hate you actually and you could be a lot better "
I’m currently sick which means I read way too many trashy romance novels while dying in bed. 😎
This one fell flat. The tropes promised angst and tension but I just didn’t feel that. Maybe lack of chemistry, maybe silly plot, not sure. It didn’t come together in a satisfying way and I really didn’t care what happened to either of them by the end of the book. 😅
EUPHORIC!!! I couldn’t put this book down. Best friend’s brother, one bed, they hate each other….. SAY LESS. I ate this book up, the attention to detail is incredible. I want as many details as I can have while reading and Sophia delivers every time. And talk about the tension is this book 🥵 it is so well written you can practically feel it coming off the pages.
I was OBSESSED with My Office Rival and this one is no different. I don’t believe she’s capable of writing a bad book.
I’ve been patiently waiting for Mile’s book and it was worth the wait! Miles and Lane are truly captivating and I couldn’t get enough of them.
If you love spice and tension this is for you! It easily gets 10 stars for all over writing and spice ✨ 🌶️
Didn’t finish. I won’t do they/them. I read roances. I don’t have a problem with gay cuples, but I DO have problems with they/them. George is either an XX or XY.
I really liked the story line but the use of they/their pronouns for an individual is very confusing. When it first came up in the book it was talking about a character with green finger nails at work. I thought that all of the assistants had painted their nails green. I know it sounds silly and that's what I thought when I read it. HOW SILLY. Luckily the character with different pronouns is a secondary character so it only affects a small portion of the book.
I received this book in exchange for an honest review.
Actual rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐.5 Spice level: 🌶️🌶️.5
Where do I begin with this one? I absolutely loved Lane and Miles' love story. There were times I wanted to absolute throttle them and just shove them together, and there were times I was content to bask in the sweetness of their relationship. There were times when I yelled "oh get on with it already", and moments where you just knew it had to be drawn out that little bit more, so they could have their "aha" moment.
I genuinely love that the love and obsession for each other has been there from the get go for both Lane and Miles, and that it was something that grew with them. Their personalities - whilst so different - complement each other, and you just know that together they are stronger.
This is definitely a book to leave you with all the feels and the warm snugglies of a happy ever after, even if the road to get there was long and bumpy. This was my first read by Travers, and it most certainly won't be my last.
The story of Miles and Lane was not only heartbreaking at times, but also had you falling in love with the both of them.
Miles a grumpy young billionaire has one thing and one thing on his mind. To be successful and to not let anything get in his way. Even love.
Lane is a photographer who’s about to be homeless, is left with a business that isn’t getting any business and just feels like everything is a mess.
It’s been 2 years since she’s seen Miles after telling him she never wanted to talk or see him again. That’s about to change when she’s hired to be the photographer for his engagement pictures for his wedding.
The wedding gets called off and Miles is in jeopardy of losing out on a property he needs to have in order to preserve his dad’s name. But in order to do so, he needs to prove that he loves something other than himself. How does he do that you may ask? By asking Lane to be his fake girlfriend did a week. No problem right?
I love the characters and their development. I loved how they brought up their past and worked through it together. Such a great story. Highly recommend.
Tbh this made me sad… the summary sounded so good and I was looking for a light switch up from my normal suspense reads but within the first 6 chapters I felt like every gender, sexuality, preference etc. was shoved in so the book would appeal to all.
Pretty sure I read the introduction to the MMC’s assistant 5 times trying see what I was missing before I realized the author was intending for the character to have “they” pronouns… the tiniest backstory on the character would have made the world of difference!
Lately more and more books feel like this one where it’s trying to pander to every political ideology, sexual preference & gender identity… I read books to escape the world not have it intertwined with reality.
I don’t like reviewing so early in the book, but the writing style is not great, I’m so confused. You do you and all that, but the mix pronouns gave me a headache, firstly George is a he and is described as a he but then at times the author uses they/them and I’m like who else is in the scene, oh just George 🤯
Sorry if this offends anyone but that writing style is not for me 🤷🏻♀️
I’d rate this one a 4.5 rounded up to 5 stars. It lost half a star because I honestly wasn’t kind of hated Miles and wasn’t sure about his feelings for Lane until he word vomited all over her. Then I was onboard.
There were times I wanted to slap Miles. The way he would not only think, but tell Laney that she was going to fall for him and she couldn’t because he couldn’t be what she needed or whatever stupid reasoning he had in that moment was infuriating. It also totally came off like he was pitying her which, with the things he said to her when she was younger, was pretty on brand for him. Now I guess it was kind of him just freaking out.
I liked Lane’s thoughts about not being the girl who chased men for more than they were willing to give her. If only she actually followed through with it!
The book was angsty and emotional. Miles broke my heart right along with Lane’s. Anytime a book has me all up in my feels it’s good. It didn’t quite make me cry but it was a close call.
I liked it; it was good, solid rich boi romance. Not god tier aka Parsi or Elks, but well written, nicely paced and I liked the MCs character build.
The overall sentiment was sometimes a little repetitive. And given that the whole schtick is that he can’t communicate and she’s an open book, it was ironic that when it came to sexy time, he somehow manages to say all the things you could ever wish to hear and her vocabulary is suddenly limited to only two words, yes and more.
I will 100% be reading the rest of her books though.
5/5 stars. This book was soooo good, it made me tear up a bit. Round of applause to those to made it possible: George, Liam, Catherine, and Mallory. Sophia Travers never disappoints. 👏🩷
Author Sophia Travers gives readers a unique romance with friends to lovers that first have to get over being enemies. This fake relationship romance has all the feels with off limits brother's best friend/best friend's sister, promises made, secrets, and main characters each trying to reach goals without blurring the line of fake and real. With storyline details that play out like a movie in the readers imagination, and plot twists and character development that keeps you guessing what will happen next. The chemistry is hot with a slow burn at first, but once the fire starts it burns red hot 🫠(🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️). This is a must read to add to any TBR list for 2024.
MFC Lane has a love for photography. Doing weddings and family portraits pay the bills, but she has other dreams for her photography. Freezing on an early morning at the beach while prepping for an engagement session, the last person she expected to see was Miles Becker. It had been two years since that awful night that changed both of their lives, but last things she was going to do was let him throw her off her game. She needed this money, she could be professional right? A few months later when her business takes a nosedive due to bad budgeting by her business partner who left her high and dry, she's about to be evicted from her apartment. When Miles offers her a deal that could solve all her problems, it might be too hard to say no. MMC Miles, has a successful business and is doing very well for himself, but the one thing he wants most is constantly out of his reach, the Montauk house. The house is finally for sale, but there's a hang up. Even though him and his fiancé ended their engagement on good terms, her father is giving a very different impression to the business world which is putting his chance to get the Montauk house at jeopardy. He needs to fix the sellers impression quickly and he knows exactly who can help him, Lane. She might not like him, but he knows she needs the money and it's a win win right? Lane and Miles make a deal, fake date for his ex's wedding, make a good impression, he gets the house, and she gets the money to find a new apartment and maybe a studio for her photography. They once were friends; they can do this and make it believable without it getting complicated. Even with Lane's anger towards Miles, they quickly fall back into old habits and comfortable friendship, chemistry is evident, and lines start to blur. Can Lane really just be in the moment and not catch feelings for someone she's held a candle for since college? Can Miles realize in time that maybe the Montauk house isn't the most important things he's ever needed? See if Lane and Miles get their HEA?
Lane&Miles. i have mixed feelings about this because i truly enjoy it, but with best friend to lovers (my fav trope) i feel i was just love the trope.
Summary: Miles&Lane been friends since college, he also friends with Lane’s twin, Liam. They met at 20, and now 30yo. Lane&Miles have stopped talking for 2 years. Lane starting to feel Miles been judging her life choice (dates and all) and their friendship became distant but the final blow was Liam was in car accident and Lane was told Miles was the driver (it was Liam and he was drunk so Miles took the blame to protect him). She blamed Miles and stopped talking for 2 years until they met again while Miles and his fiance (amanda) taking prewed photos while Lane was the photographer🫤
8 months later wedding has been cancelled and Miles asking back the money he paid for wedding photos he paid upfront. Lane can’t pay him back, Miles offer her to become his fake date to Amanda’s wedding for a week and got 50k. He told Lane he needs the land someone (Catherine) selling but she needs to see his good side. Miles told Lane his engagement was a business with Amanda, it just felt right, there’s no love (yeah whatever).
They solved their misunderstanding on the trip. He confessed he was obsessed with her, he was jealous of her going out with other men, not judging her life. That he felt he needed the space. Lane said i love you first and Miles rejected it. He still felt his feeling was unhealthy. They separated for few weeks then got back together.
What i don’t like: - She saw him banging someone. Like wtf and you told me Miles was picturing her(?) Idk - Miles was so close to marrying someone and it was not him that break the engagement after seeing Lane🫥 It was Amanda finding her love of her life - at the first party, all that anger about being left alone and feeling not fit in in the party just gone(?) they just fight about something else….. - writer missed the chance to weaponized of him willingly to get married with Amanda but refusing to get serious with Lane
Tropes: friends to enemies to lovers, been in love with you, fake dating
next?? catherine : a heiress needing a husband to get her inheritance Jonah : obsessing to find out about writer/reporter/journalist that write bad things about him

This was a fun quick read. Great chemistry between the leads. There was a lot of the heroine taking things the H was saying the wrong way--not miscommunication, per say, but just taking something he says and twisting it in her head so it means something horrible and then reacting to an extreme about it. In the beginning of the book they hate each other (kinda)...and even though I've finished the book, I'm not sure why. It doesn't make a lot of sense...granted I'm pretty laid back, and it would take more than one argument to make me hate someone, but with them...or her...he said one insult and she wrote him off. Maybe I missed something? But I never understood their animosity even when it was supposedly explained. And then I really think it's stupid when the H in a book is all, "I don't believe in love, I refuse to be in love in general so when the woman I love (though I don't believe in it so, no I don't love her!) confesses her love for me I'm going to say I don't love her because I'm stupid." I mean for real, it's stupid. It's not romantic, it's a weird romance book trope that doesn't make a lot of sense to me. And the billioniare being, "I like to pretend I'm a normal average run of the mill guy because it's so stressful having the weight of the world on my shoulders..." Excuse me Mr Rich Guy, I do NOT feel sorry for you. You never have to worry about bills, about a roof over your head, about being one major health emergency away from being homeless. Why don't you go wipe your rich man tears with some hundred dollar bills. Grrr.
But yeah, I actually really did enjoy this book, though. Just those things above REALLY bothered me. But the way their relationship grew, the way they both became better people (ESPECIALLY the H), and their chemistry was a lot of fun to read. I am for sure going to read more from this author.
BAAABBBBYYYYYYY ARE YOU JOKINGGGGGG. MY HEART. OH GOD MY HEARRTTTTTT. I can’t. WHAT. Don’t do me like that. My heart is just uugghhhhh. Miillllesssssss. God I want to wrap you up in a blanket burrito on my couch, feed you, love you, and make all of your sadness go away. The way a heart broken man to be fixed just does something to my heart that I can’t explain. And how they had known each other FOR LIKE EVER, and things had gotten in the way, that made them drift apart. AND IT WAS FORBIDDEN. Lane… I want to be friends with this woman. She sounds like an absolute treat, who doesn’t take shit from no one, and WE LOVE THAT ENERGY. Plus, she pulls my heart strings of her art medium being photography. Even just having the interest, just makes me love her more. I would taste test wine with her, ANY DAY. Not that I like wine *haha!*
Their chemistry is incredible. Their jokes, their teasing, their fire comebacks are EVERYTHING. And the fact they were a trio with Lane’s brother, and how Miles always kept the oath to protect her… NO MATTER WHAT. I just wanted to shake him for how he was thinking about himself, as well as how he was holding himself back. The possessiveness and primal instincts. DON’T EVEN GET ME STARTED ON THE TATTOO AND HOW HE SHOWS HER THAT HE TRULY LOVES HER. UUUGGGHHHHH. My heart is just full of love and warmth right now. I AM IN LOVE. I DO NOT have enough words or actions to describe my feelings towards Lane and Miles. I LOVE THEM SOOO MUCH. I love all of the Sophia Travers' men for their own ways, but Miles just hits different, for his own reasons and my own need to put things back together when they are broken. As no one or nothing deserves to feel or be broken.
1st reading: Excellently written prose with few grammatical or punctuation errors. The plot is predictable in the way most romance novels are, but there are several subplots to give it depth. The main characters and several secondaries are multi-dimensional and show growth over the course of the novel. I truly enjoyed this story. The main characters each have a rich history, both before and after they met a decade earlier in college. They both harbor long-standing feelings for the other, and they each have their own reasons for not having acted on them. When we meet our characters, Lane (FMC) hates Miles (MMC) and hasn't spoken to him in two years because of his role in nearly causing her twin brother Liam's death in a car accident. However, for somewhat convoluted reasons Miles needs Lane's help with his reputation, and she agrees to pose as his girlfriend for a week at a major social event (a wedding). Despite her reluctance to spend any time in Miles' presence, Lane is desperate for money, as her business is failing. What follows is a delicate dance of mutual attraction, self-doubt, and confessions of long-held secrets. Yes, there is the inevitable third-act breakup, but (thank goodness) it's not from a lack of communication or a misunderstanding between the characters. Rather it's one of the characters needing to finally come to terms with their feelings and recognizing them for what they are, and the fears they've allowed to dictate their behavior. The chemistry between the two characters leaps off the page, and it's easy for the reader to sympathize with both Lane and Miles for the various challenges they're facing. I look forward to continuing to read about the characters in this author's world.

This was also a much more emotional read than I was expecting, but it was more on the angst-y side of things and didn't quite work for me as well (I'm not a huge fan of angst in my romances, in general). I also found the conflicts between Miles and Lane to be very repetitive and I just wanted them to fight about something different for a change. I could really feel the contempt Lane had for Miles early on in the story and I remember thinking "this author has a lot of work to make me believe these two are going to fall in love". I did think Travers did a great job of sprinkling in details of Miles and Lane's backstory throughout the read which helped. These details really helped strengthen their current relationship arc, especially considering the short timeframe. We did get both character POVs, which was great considering how hot/cold they both were to the other. I also liked the amount of side characters we get to see and how Miles and Lane both talk to their friends about their budding feelings. While I do think the emotional turmoil generally paid off in the end, I was expecting something different from the big love declaration moment. This read did have some moments that worked really well for me, but overall it was a bit too angsty for me to really love it. However, if you are a fan of this sort of angsty, friends to enemies to lovers, second chance type of romances I think this is a really good example of one.
Thanks to the author for the ARC. Publication date was December 4, 2023.
Fate Stepped in taking over control these two couldn’t seem to get it right so she ensured they did. Miles and Lane, a struggling photographer, grew up together you see he was her twin brother’s best friend but after one night the crush she had on him was crushed so to speak the hate set in and grew each year. Fast forward years Miles is a sexy as all get out billionaire about to get married his fiancé hired a struggling photographer not knowing that the photographer would be none other than his best friends twin sister someone, he has always wanted but couldn’t step over the line and settled for hating her or telling himself that for years. The wedding is called off and he request a refund since she wasn’t no longer needed problem all the money was already spent; she wasn’t able to return the money, so he comes up with an idea attend his ex- fiancé wedding as his date so feeling forced despite all the hate she says she feels for him she doesn’t have much choice it is only for one week. Miles on the other hand didn’t trick her but needed her where he wanted her (to be his) but for her to see another side of him proving her hate for him was unfounded so to speak but can he show her there is so much more to him, do they finally acknowledge they have crushed on each other for some man years, will they give each other a chance….a real chance, will she forgive him enough to see past the hate she has felt for so long, can they be honest with one another without all the pretense, and can they find happiness after so much mess?
I started this book with low expectations. At first, it was a bit hard to get into — the author introduces many characters without giving enough context, and I was thrown off by the use of they to refer to a male character. On top of that, I had read several harsh reviews about Miles, the male lead, and all of this made me doubt whether the book was worth continuing.
But what I found completely exceeded my expectations. The relationship between the main characters is so much more than your typical brother’s best friend trope. They share a strong past, a broken friendship, unresolved hurt… and all of that makes their connection powerful, intense, and incredibly real.
Every scene between them is full of emotion: desire, tenderness, shared history, pain, and deep love. As a reader, you feel every moment, every word, every look. I loved how naturally the story moves from tension to emotional surrender.
Yes, there were a few things that didn’t quite work for me — the female lead is portrayed in an overly negative light, like she’s failing in every area of her life, and Miles’ reasons for not acknowledging his feelings shift a bit too much depending on who’s asking. But none of that outweighed the emotional impact of the story.
This book truly surprised me in the best way. It’s one of those reads you don’t expect… and end up feeling deeply.
- Billionaire romance - Friends to enemies to enemies to lovers - Brothers best friend - Fake dating - Forced proximity - One bed - Found family - "It's always been you"
Miles and Lane may have grown up as family friends, and Miles may still be best friends with her twin brother, but that's where things end. Lane has held onto a hatred of Miles for years, so when a twist of fate brings them back in touch, Miles wastes no time getting Lane right back where he wants her.
Lane on the other hand, could not be more indifferent towards the man she once considered part of her family. When he propositions her with a bribe to fake date for a week, it comes with the incentive that would quite literally save the roof over her head.
This billionaire romance is full of so many good tropes!! You get the quiet, broody brothers best friend who turns into a simp for his secret crush, and his best friends twin sister - the starving artist determined to break down his walls.
This book is a bit of a slow burn, emotional, yet spicy. I really enjoyed the vague descriptions of the characters! It allowed you to picture them just enough to use your own creativity for the rest. 🌶️🌶️ ⭐⭐⭐⭐💫
This was a 2.5 star for me. (possible spoilers ahead) It's not that it's a terrible book, but it was very repetitive. There were parts where the MCs felt like they were 15 years old because they kept going back and forth with the "I hate you"/"no, I love you" attitude.
The whole reason for h to hate H was just blah. She thought H was driving the night of the accident where her brother got hurt. He wasn't. It was her brother driving. H took the fall for him.
It was very bizarre how H would think about getting BJs from other women but then mention he was picturing h's face when it was happening. Or the fact that he was getting a BJ from one woman and h walked in on him. So he was actually a manwhore during the 10 years he REALLY loved h but it was okay because he was always picturing that woman was actually h. okay
Both characters were immature. h was clueless. Like....painfully so. She was always getting herself into situations where she needed to be bailed out. She would call her brother (who she knew was also broke) and magically...all her problems would disappear and she would end up in a better situation. You can't tell me any reasonable person couldn't figure out that billionaire H was the one giving the brother money to bail her out????
I’m not a fan of books with such childish miscommunication, even between the twin siblings. It was too immature in a lot of ways. Lane hates Miles because of a car accident that caused her twin to be hospitalized, but to find out years later that Liam, her twin was the actual driver and Miles was protecting Liam. However, Lane is quick to forgive Liam for the accident as well as lying about said accident. And Liam kept the lies going knowing that Lane hated Miles because of this. But he says he misses the closeness the three of them shared? YOU LIED to your twin. And honestly Lane was extremely immature about a lot of things, not to mention clueless. Every time she got in trouble, Liam, who also had no money, bailed her out in an extravagant way. How? It never crossed her mind that Miles was behind all of the monetary gifting??? And her attitude about “rich people” is very immature. Miles and his wishy washy feelings became utterly annoying. Grow the heck up already! You are 30 years old and a supposed business billionaire. The 3 stars are truly for Miles….when he wasn’t being immature, he was a really great person.
The book was fine. About a quarter of the way through I was questioning if it was part of a series and couldn't find a solid answer on goodreads or kindle, because a lot of their social relationships were stated in a way that made me wonder what the implied backstory was. While not the end of the world, that was my first editing complaint. The book was repetitive, characters would say something and it would appear almost identical in a future chapter.
I liked Miles more than Lane, he had issues he had to work through and the "if I never fall in love, I'll never get hurt" troupe isn't my favorite. Lane was harder to get behind, in her POV she was doing everything to let Miles know she was interested and that he should step up, but from my POV, she making him do everything: take the blame for everything, meet her where she was, apologize, etc. By the time her roommate and brother stepped in to point out she hasn't exactly been open and honest with him either, it was too late in the story for me to feel for her.
Wouldn’t expect anything but amazing from Sophia Travers!
Miles and Laney have been obsessed with each other for over a decade but things never seem to work out. Now, ten years later, he is the heartless billionaire that she can’t stand and wants nothing to do with. She is a struggling photography who books an engagement photoshoot unknowingly by Miles and his fiancée. When the wedding is called off, Miles wants a refund but she doesn’t have the money to do so. He strikes up a deal of a lifetime-accompany him as his date to his ex-fiancées wedding!
I was obsessed with this book; I could not put it down! Through the tears and the twists, I was hooked! I laughed, cried, and was angry repeatedly throughout this book. If you like brothers best friend, second chance look, and slow burn, you would love it too! This book is definitely my top 10 of 2023 because it had no flaws, well done!
This was my first book from Sophia, and I loved it.
Miles Becker needed a fake girlfriend to convince a buyer that he could care for someone and convince her to sell him the piece of land that he desperately needed to buy. So, who better to ask than your best friends sister that you have loved all your life, but who currently hates your guts!
Lane has also been in love with Miles her whole life but has tried to hate Miles for a few years as she thought he was responsible for an accident her brother was in.
As they spend the week being in a fake relationship at a lavish wedding, they soon start reminiscing on old times, and the chemistry between them is off the charts.
I wanted to shake Miles at some points when he nearly threw it all away, but he finally saw the light with a little help from his friends and finally fought for the girl he loved.
The story, characters, and spice in this book were perfect, and I can't wait to dive into another Sophia story.
Summary: Lane is a struggling artist about to lose her home and business. Miles is a billionaire playboy with an image problem. They’ve known each other for years, but had a falling out. Miles offers Lane $50,000 to pretend to be his girlfriend for the week to revamp his reputation and help her keep her business and home. Can they fake this in both get what they need or will they learn the lines between faking it and it feeling real?
Review: I’m a sucker for billionaire romance and no one does it quite like Sophia. The banter was great. Slow burn, dual POV, fake dating are well written. The chemistry and sexual tension between Lane and Miles was delicious. The spice fit well without taking away from the story. I read One Wealthy Wedding as an ARC last year and loved Theo but I think I might like Miles even more. I will definitely be reading Jonah’s story and I can’t wait to read more from her!
