The title is slightly misleading: this is an update of "The Story of the Chosen People," with a focus on Biblical history, with a nod to other ancient civilizations that touched the Hebrew people in some way. The stories are told with engaging detail, and although I've understood the broad sweep of Old Testament history for years, I learned some things alongside my children, or had more details cemented more clearly. We all enjoyed studying our way through this. It's a nice ancient history spine for grades 4-6 (Charlotte Mason forms 2B and 2A).
This book focuses on the Jewish people with heavy resource support from Josephus; it starts with young earth creation. Coverage of other peoples (except as they relate to the Israelites) is on the sparse side, so supplementation needed as a history curriculum, but this can make an excellent core. Also a great read on its own.
