Book two in the spicy epic tale of love, lies, and Obligations!
Follow Eira as she journeys to the Kingdom of Monwyn, a place where she will discover truths about herself and the power she wields in a society where the men of the Mountain have reigned supreme... until now...
"Momma,
Uncertainty is the only thing I am certain of…
I have learned since leaving Verus that even in the face of grave danger, the heart is still capable of love, and that love comes in an infinite supply, in all manner of shapes and shades.
I have come to understand that even as the walls close around me and the stars seem to shine less brightly in the night sky, life continues moving forward, and I must continue following the path I have chosen... or choose to be left behind. My power lies firmly in my own hands.
Oh, and I’ve come to the conclusion that being a Chosen One is a steaming pile of horseshit, and if a person is to be ‘blessed’ without their consent, it should godsdamn well be served with a heaping side dish of clairvoyance.
At least the sex is good.
Your Daughter,
Eira (The Assigned but Aggravated Obligate of Solnna)
Postscriptum: When next we meet, you owe me an explanation of the missing details of MY LIFE... and a hug. I miss you."
E.A. Fortneaux: Where cotton candy covers contain questionable content—think mayhem and make-outs, all wrapped in lush worldbuilding. She's the mind behind the Obligates of Ærta series, a spicy romance fantasy filled with fate-bound lovers, emotional disasters... and this other guy who is so frustratingly delicious that he’ll keep you up past your bedtime.
She published her debut, Following the Snow, in 2023 as an homage to the strong women who surrounded her growing up—passionate, proud, and a little unhinged. Since then, she’s been weaving realms with threads of passion and unleashing sequels like Snow on the Summit and When Snow Falls, with more releases on the way.
When she’s not writing, Fortneaux is probably caffeinated and covered in dog hair—gardening, researching medieval nonsense, or laughing with her book besties. She writes stories that feel like home—if home had mood lighting, self-love, and lots of kissing.
Snow on the Summit, book two in the Obligates of Aerta Series by E.A. Fortneaux- Rating: 5 ⭐️
This is only E.A. Fortneaux’s second book and already, I would call her a master of her craft. This is story telling at its finest. An epic Romantasy that commands your attention and adoration, I have become completely immersed in this story.
This book is centered on Eira and her men while she finds her way among the Monwyn people. I loved the world building, we learn so much about the culture and traditions in this installment. The banter, as always, is on point and there were many times I found myself literally laughing out loud. We get to see Eira’s relationships with Ambrose and Cato evolve and deepen and we are introduced to new characters, characters that you both love and hate and that are so necessary to the story telling. Characters from the first book are reintroduced as well. We also get a glimpse of the bonds and how they work, even when you don’t necessarily want the bond. There is plenty of magic and action and a rollercoaster of emotions to accompany you on this journey.
The last third of the book broke my heart and with the cliffhanger, I was left speechless. It’s been days since I finished this book and I am still thinking about it. I need to know what happens, especially with Cato and Eira. After what happened, I need to know how the threesome moves forward. How do they come back from this?? I have so many questions and concerns!!!
I received an advance reader copy and am leaving my review voluntarily.
This story and this series are just absolute perfection. The number of times I laughed, the blushes I experienced, the cheering I did for the characters, and the tears I cried were just masterful. The perfect balance of everything you could want in a story. I am absolutely stunning in love with this author and her books.
Another Epic Romantasy! I absolutely loved this book which is no surprise because I loved the first book! In this book you read about how Eira, Ambrose and Cato settle into their roles with their new arrangement in the Kingdom of Monwyn. I love E.A’s world building because she draws you into her story with such amazing attention to detail. It’s like watching a movie with how she describes everything from the jewels, to their clothes and even the amazing food spreads! So immersive and captivating. This book has it all from Body Positivity, LGBTQIA Representation, Fated Mates, Found Family, Shadow Magic and yes it is Spicy but it is also hilarious with all the banter going on! If you are a Romance and Fantasy lover and you haven’t started this series yet I honestly don’t know what you are waiting for!
OH MY GODDESS. holy shit. This ending was EXACTLY what I’ve needed from a book!!!!!
First of all, I forgot how much I missed Eira. She is one of my favorite female characters ever. I forgot how much I loved EA’s writing. It’s so hilarious and empowering. This was much spicier than book one and honestly had me rooting for some very questionable scenarios 😂
The only thing that kept this from being a 5 star book for me was that I would get lost in the æther scenes. I would leave those scenes with my brain a little fuzzy, not fully comprehending what I just read (but honestly, that could entirely be a Me issue.
Anyway, I love this series so much and cannot wait for book 3!
Our beloved MC must find her footing in the new kingdom of misogyny and patriarchy. I really enjoyed seeing her struggle with the sexist men of this world, and also fighting for the women that have been abused and broken by the system. There is plenty of body positive throughout this book, for the men and women. Compared to the first book, you will find major court dynamics and royal wedding preparations.
This book has plenty of good spice. Look no further if that’s what you’re after. A poly-relationship is waiting for you. 4.5/5 chili peppers. This author goes beyond with her spice. It’s not generic or simple.
Here are the Trigger Warnings. Please check them out because this isn’t a light read!
Holy moly!!! Following the Snow was my top 2023 read and here EA comes with this absolute banger, Snow on the Summit. Words, I don’t have them to describe how absolutely amazing this book is!!! The emotions I’m experiencing are exactly how I want a book to make me feel!
BookTok strikes again. While I read the first book in this series and somewhat enjoyed it for the most part, this one I couldn’t bring myself to finish. I was hoping in the second book, given how the first ended, the characters would grow/mature a little more, but this was not the case. I found all of them to be very juvenile for all the characters being in their mid-late twenties and early thirties. I felt like I was reading a story about a bunch of horny high schoolers. I made it about 10 chapter in before I finally gave up. It just wasn’t for me.
I’m not sure what to say to properly address the magnificence of this book.
It’s not often that I’m rendered speechless 😶 but I am thoroughly so…
This book was absolutely incredible. The execution of the plot and story was done beautifully. These characters burrow themselves into your being so fiercely that you feel utterly spent after all that’s happened.
There was so much going on, so much secrets and deception, so much action and soul shattering moments. Real emotions for these characters and their well being.
The spice, chemistry and romance was of course off the charts but what truly captivated me was EA Fortneaux’s ability to import you into a world that you never want to leave.
I received this book as an ARC, thank you ❤️ but my rating and review is honest cause lying is silly
Summit on the snow is the second book in this series, following, Following the Snow. The first book in this series sets you up with the world building and a slow burn romance, just for the action to really build at the end and leave you with a crazy cliffhanger.
The second book jumps right into the spice and witty banter of the characters that you don’t get as much in the first book while people are getting to know each other and again, the slow burn romance start. From page one this book is SPICY and filled with banter.
From the first book, I miss some of the side characters and that dynamic but I understand her life has evolved and I appreciated the new friendships she made.
Kinda spoiler **** In the first book, we’re built up into this sort of love triangle and then it comes down to wait- is this a throuple? Do we have to choose or do we get both? In this book everything with that comes together *literally hehe
There were some slower parts in this book, the first book again has the world building and all of the learning and this book for parts focused more on day to day life and spice, but again it did give time for the banter to shine through.
This author is a very funny, personable person on social media and I think that shines through this book so much. You can feel her sense of humor in it and I’ve always loved her humor.
Then of course, the end crescendos and we’re all left wanting more. Never fully satisfied after these books end and their crazy cliffhangers, kinda like Eira? ;)
The sequel to Following the Snow did not disappoint. Well-written the story picks up right where FotS ended. It was a lovely book letting us get to know the FMC and the two MMCs. Delightfully spicy, but also moments of sweetness and love. EA Fortneaux is definitely one to watch and I’m already excited for book three!!!!
I can't even begin to describe my feelings about this book. It was an extreme rush, a lot of information. A lot of questions answered and so many more questions popped up. Honestly my thoughts are still in a jumble but the flow of this book was perfect. Some new characters were introduced some returned and by the end of the book my heart was broken and I ugly cried.
This book picked up right where the first one ended and I'm not going to lie I thought it was going to be something devastating that happened in the first chapter but I am so glad I was wrong.
Eira is still the same feisty woman she was in the first book. Cato is still obsessed with her. Ambrose is still a man child. All three of them together actually makes the perfect pair because they find ways to balance each other out.
There is a new man who we were introduced to in the last book and I have a feeling I'm going to simp over this man in the next book.
There was a lot of love and passion on this book but there was also some death and for that I will never forgive E.A because she had me love these characters and then she took them away. T he last few chapters of this book I had a box of tissues by me because I was ugly crying and my heart was hurting for Eira, Cato and Ambrose.
Perfect read all around and I need more I need so much more!!
Thank you to EA Fortneaux for providing me and ARC for this book! EA Fortneaux has such a fun writing style. You feel like you’re in the story and want to be best friends with the characters. I was crying, laughing, squealing with glee, and raging all throughout this book. Eira is such a fun and strong female main character who goes on lots of adventures…and even more steamy adventures 😉 I can’t wait to read book 3 and delve even deeper into this crazy world!
💫⭐⭐⭐⭐/⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "I would die for you, Eira, but I would rather live for you." "If you touch her...I will ruin you."
For those of you new here—Snow on on the Summit is the second book in the Obligates of Ærta, a high fantasy romance series. It picks up right where we left off in Following the Snow.
Snow on the Summit is a strong installment to this series because you really get to know Eira, the FMC, and her inner workings. She is funny, headstrong, and, at times, impulsive. The banter between her and the MMCs is *chefs kiss* and really builds this story up to be a romantasy.
This series started off with a slow burn, so this installment gives you the pay off for your patience and is packed with delectable spice scenes—I'd give it 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️, given some of it is delightfully non-traditional. It contains a love triangle and a (debatable) Why Choose. The MMCs are fantastic (and very different from one another), and I love them both. If you don't think this is a Why Choose, then it's because I refuse to choose.
Overall, the pacing of this book is medium with some slow and fast moments thrown in. It has a lot of day to day life in it, which is a bit different than Following the Snow, as Eira takes on the Kingdom of Monwyn. Some readers will love/won't mind that, while I know others will not love it.
There are some interesting new side characters that are introduced in this book, while others that are further developed from Following the Snow (some that give me the ick *cough Septimus cough*). I will say, I struggle a bit with the King because he gives me pervy uncle vibes but I think he's meant to be endearing.
Why I gave this a 4.5 instead of a 5? ⬇️ As I noted in Following the Snow (FtS), which I gave 4/5 stars, E.A. Fortneaux's non-dialogue (1st person POV) tends to conflict with the the dialogue—overly causal wording vs historical/formal terms. HOWEVER, there has been notable improvements compared to FtS, and I can tell she's listening to her readers' feedback. ⬇️ I wish E.A. Fortneaux would get a bit deeper into Ambrose's and Cato's characters and their inner workings—I'd love dual/multiple POV, especially because this book was very character-driven and centralized around Eira. ⬇️ I wish the more climactic parts of the book were sooner—the big moment (in my opinion) happens in the last 50 pages, which is similar to what happened in FtS
A huge thank you to E.A. Fortneaux for giving me an ARC and allowing me to be part of her author adventure! Note: this is my honest, voluntary opinion.
As Eira, Cato and Ambrose navigate the new challenges in their dynamic, threats from both within the kingdom and from the world beyond keep them from finding the peace they all desperately seek.
Eira is in love with Cato, but finds herself falling a little bit more for her husband-to-be, Ambrose. And brothers Ambrose and Cato struggle with sharing the bed and affections of the same woman, while constantly their father, the mad king, in check. Eira cares deeply for the people around her and finds herself conflicted with her duties as the Solnann Troth, the consort to Prince Ambrose and the newest companion to Papa Burchard, who, under Eira's influence, isn't as mad and dangerous as we were all lead to believe.
E.A Fortneaux knows how to write a damn good book. The banter throughout the book is so well-done and refreshing, and the juxtaposition between the romance, heartache and humor means you never really know what to expect on the next page. Snow on the Summit is spicy and enchanting, with lots of body positivity, and a dash of dismantling the patriarchy.
When I tell you, this book had me on an emotional roller coaster ride! I laughed, I cried, I screamed in outrage, the whole emotional spectrum I'm telling you.
This is the second book in the Obligates Of Ærta series, and I'm so glad it didn't end up being one of those sequels that didn't measure up to the first book in the series.
We follow Eira as she continues to navigate her way through the mess she was thrown into simply because she was born under a certain set of stars in the sky. She's thrust into Monwyn kingdom only to find that it is stuck deeply in a misogynistic way of life, and you know our girl is NOT about that life. She works with her companions, the brooding Protector and the Man-Child Prince, to solve the mystery surrounding her birth and keep the many political powers in line without causing a complete destruction of their worlds very fragile peace.
Eira meets new friends, causes a few scandals, and has a LOT of steamy sexy times. There are so many twists and turns that my head is still spinning, and I will be dying trying to figure out what's going to happen next for the next however long the amazing E.A. Fortneaux needs to get us the third book of this amazing series.
It might be too early to call it but this is already well on its way to being my top read of 2024.
I would like to preface this review by saying that fantasy/romantasy is not my typical genre of choice. My tastes tend to linger on the dark romance side of the spectrum. It is not because I do not enjoy a fantasy story, but being neuro spicy, I tend to find the tremendous amount of world building and information to be overwhelming.
This is where E.A. Fortneaux reigns supreme.
The way that E.A. writes is nothing short of magical. I find that she writes fantasy in such a digestable way...for lack of a better word. Not once did I feel overwhelmed being pulled into this world... I felt enchanted.
Snow on the Summit is book two of the Obligates of Ærta series, and it picks up right where we left off in Following the Snow. In this book, we get to see Eira's relationship with Ambrose and Cat grow and evolve as they all step into their roles in Monwyn. Just as in book one, though, it turns out not everyone is who they seem. This book will twist you in different directions, make you laugh out loud, turn you on, and shatter your heart... but in the best way.
If you are looking for a book with: 🏔 Fated Mates 🏔 LGBTQIA inclusivity 🏔 Found Family 🏔 Shadow Magic 🏔 MFM/MM/FF 🏔 Body Positivity 🏔 Curvaceous FMC 🏔 SPICE 🥵🥵🥵🥵
Look no further. Enter the world of Ærta and be enchanted.
Received this book as an ARC from the author- all opinions are mine without any influence of the gifted ARC.
Okay, this book was a bit all over the place. I felt like there was a lot going on, and there were moments that it just rushed into a spicy scene without really explaining what was happening in the plot. Sometimes it felt as though it was written as if you were watching a tv show and things are just implicitly known based on the surroundings and characters in the background. I did enjoy the character arc of the main three characters and their love story. Eira is a badass female character who doesn’t put up with any BS.
The only thing I wish is that there was more time establishing the world and how the magic works in this world. A lot was just kind of thrown at me without an explanation.
Overall it IS and enjoyable series and I’m excited to see where it leads- because of course it ends on a cliffhanger.
I’m very grateful to the author for this ARC copy and I’ve truly enjoyed her fun social media posts surrounding this book and her series!
This series has my whole heart. From real and messy relationships, a realistic timeline for developing magical abilities, and a newfound appreciation for words like cake and barnacles (IYKYK).
If you are looking for a read that makes you stop and think about the topics in the chapters and characters that stay with you long after you have finished the last page of the story, this one is definitely for you.
This book had me in fits of giggles and a mess of tears. E.A.'s humour shines beautifully in the stories she writes. I was so happy to see that the humour you see in her online presence is the same in her stories through Eira. She makes you love the characters you once hated and rips your heart out when you least expect it.
I absolutely cannot wait for the next book in this series.
5 STARS 4 CHILIS HOLY SNOWBALLS!!! Um, just when you think E.A. can't do any better after Following the Snow, she writes Snow on the Summit. She really did out do herself, and she wanted us to know, she is NOT messing around with her writing!! This book did things to me. I was in all my feels! The character development, was great. I got to read how Eira (FMC) Ambrose (MMC) and Cato (MMC) yes, 2 MMCS grew since FTS, and how their relationship blossomed. So much I want to say, but will not spoil it. We had self discovery, found family, magical growth, deception, getting accustomed to a new Kingdom, hot spice!! If you are a fan of a great epic Fantasy, and want to be taken on a journey, full of laughter, sadness, sensuality, please read Snow on the Summit when its released!
Oh my Goddess! In Snow on the Summit, the second installment in the Obligates of Erta series, E.A. Fortneaux propels her characters into their futures, chosen and unchosen, with masterful storytelling! Eira, our sassy, witty and big-hearted heroine, works to focus her emerging power and continues to explore her history and sense of purpose in a new and often unsettling culture. Meanwhile, her fierce loyalty, hilarious sense of humor and fiery passion deepen the intimacy with her beloved partners as love encounters unexpected challenges and reaches new heights. Honestly, this book has it ALL: Love, Humor, Sex, Danger, Magic, Family drama, Social commentary, Treachery, Joy, Friendship… Just when you think you know – turn the page! Can't wait for Book 3.
Eira is back and she is more determined than ever to shake up these Monwyn men. We are still following Eira, Prince Ambrose, and Protector Catommandus as they navigate their impending Joining and trying to stay true to their hearts. King Burchard is still corrupted, the Monwyn men are still archaic asses, and there will be CAKE!
I was left utterly speechless at the end of the book! The last like 5 chapters were one hell of an emotional rollercoaster there were tears, laughter, sadness, shock, awe, and the unrelenting need to cheer as Eira hand delivered justice. I can’t stand Septimus and I think Cato & Ambrose need to kill their uncle, he totally deserves it. I am left dying to read book 3 and find out what happens now!
Snow on the Summit transcended my expectations! I loved E. A. Fortneaux's first book, and was so excited that there would be a sequel! Her ability to create imagery that immerses you in the story is pure magic. She was able to weave a tapestry of pure eroticism that speaks to those desires that most of us keep hidden inside. I wanted to be in the world she created, not just reading about it! It was escapism at it's best! If you love artful storytelling that pulls you in, erotic romance, and an authors ability to transport your mind out of the mundane then I cannot suggest Snow on the Summit enough to you!
OMG! This has been an epic ride! I can honestly say I’ve never read anything like this and I would read it again and again.
The female main character is so inspiring to me! She is determined and independent. Her spirit is absolutely lovely and strong, but she is also loving. I love her so much! She’s my person all the way!
This is so well written that I can picture the settings vividly in my mind. The character development is fantastic and their individual personalities shine through. This book is such an amazing escape to another world. I don’t want to go too deep so I don’t spoil anything, I’m just saying… you’re going to love this… you’re just absolutely going to! Thank you, E.A. 💙
E.A. Fortneaux has done it again! She picked up right where she left off and carries you along on a wonderfully, adventurous, beautiful and steamy journey. With the ups and downs of ever changing relationships, building new relationships and rekindling friendships, throughout give you a sense and understanding of all the characters, not just the main three. Eira is most assuredly a woman that most can relate to. She is head strong, determined, beautiful, intelligent, loving, caring and vulnerable. E.A. continues to draw you into a world of beauty, fantasy, adventure, romance, intrigue, wonder, mystery and above all, love.
E.A. has narrowed her focus for this tale, giving much greater insight into her main characters and exploring a whole new culture and court, while Eira explores her new powers. The intricacy of storytelling from Following the Snow is retained and refined even as Eira’s world shrinks to her chosen family and a small cast of new friends and foes. As ever, the side characters are just as complex and lovable as the main cast and the world of Aerta feels alive, dangerous, and wonderful! Highly recommended for those who like adventure, intrigue, humor, and healthy dash of sensuality with their romance.
This was a fantastic book!!! We chose this as one of our buddy reads on our podcast and I’m so glad I got to experience this story. E.A. Fortneaux was going to make you feel all of the feelings whether you wanted to or not. You could go from laughing yourself stupid in one chapter to weeping uncontrollably in the next. What I love about this series is that in the first book, we get to experience the intricate world building and lore and introduction of our characters. But in the second book, I feel like we get more personal growth, depth, and on-going development of our characters as the story goes on. I absolutely loved this book. I cannot wait for the next one!!!
I loved this book. It’s a great 2nd book to the first. It’s more intimate and you get to know some of the characters more. E.A. Really knows how to add in some good twists and turns! I was surprised to like some characters a lot more than I thought I would and I was super happy with the characters Eira gets to reunite with and the new characters she got to meet. This book is hot and spicy 🌶️ which I LOVED. I cannot wait for the next book. With how this one ended I’m not sure if I will survive until the next one. PS. The table scene, eeeeeeeee!!
Perfect. From the moment I started reading I was invested. Page two I started making notes. I wanted to tell author how much I was loving it but I couldn’t stop reading. I had read her first book Following the Snow and asked to be on her arc team. Here are the feelings.- sad, happy, anxious, surprised, enthralled (is that the word to use after the spicy, oh yes spice), angry (yes needed a couple to unalive). There are so many more. The love scenes brought feelings that were new to me. If u follow the author u will see she is very funny. I counted all the places that made me laugh out loud - 27. The last 3 Chapters are a steady crescendo as she weaves in and through the story until the end - then u are physically and mentally spent. Read in 2 days.
Once again, E.A. Fortneaux knocked it out of the ballpark. What an absolutely amazing, brilliant and beautiful book. This book picks right up with the adventures of Eira, Cato and Ambrose. The world is beautifully described and sucks you right in. This book with make you laugh. You will LOVE characters. You will despise characters. You will cry. It’s breathtaking. Fortneaux- you are amazing and I cannot wait until the next book comes out!
First of all. The writing. Ms. Fortneaux has a way of drawing you into the story. The way she grabs your attention and holds it. I’m in love with this world. I want to become part of it.
Second of all. The characters. You’ll love some characters and hate some characters. I’m in love with the characters. The characters grab at your heart strings and it’s ahhhhhhh.
E.A. Fortneaux has an incredible book on her hands.
