I grew up near Galena so know a little about the town and it’s history. I have also been on numerous ghost tours in the city. I would recommend the tours over reading the book. I wished the author had gone into the history of the houses a bit more.
Book has compiled newspaper articles about “ghost” sightings and personal homes and their haunted tales. Not as great as I thought it would be. Not spooky in the slightest.
There are some excellent stories towards the back of book. Some good historical haunts written about from 1800-1900s worth reading. It is a good collection of stories from Galena.
This is an interesting book ... really makes you wonder. It is basically a collection of "ghost stories" ... unusual experiences that happened around the historical community of Galena, IL. Galena is about 50 miles from where I live, and a wonderful town to visit for a day of shopping at the quaint little shops downtown. Dave & I celebrated our 25th anniversary staying in a delightful bed and breakfast "mansion" there. The book was written by one of my college professors, so doubly of interest to me.
