Michelle Wallace did a masterful job putting together this text It covers theory, the production of black popular culture, independent visual culture and of course, the fun of essentialism all written by some of the most interesting figures in the UK and the US. I must also mention that it includes writing by some of the most overrated and overrepresented, but despite that it is well-written and thought provoking.

Some essays reveal their age, but still a classic.
