Khounnoraj has an enviable sensibility about colors and textiles, and the photographs in this book are beautiful. I enjoyed reading about what's happening out there with Real Artists and what different techniques are out there. The author's patchwork is fairly simple but it makes me Feel Stuff.
On the other hand, I am never going to dye fabric using avocado pits, no matter how lovely it looks (salmon. It makes a salmon pink color. You can't tell me you didn't think it would be green), and I'm never going to weave fabric. I may make at least one of the featured bags, though the written instructions didn't make nearly as much sense to me as the pictures.
All in all, this was interesting but not so useful to a boring mom with a job and little free time.
Oh, and I learned that in Canada they use a 3/8 seam allowance instead of 1/4. Weird, right?
I absolutely LOVE the author's esthetic, the soft but bright solid colors, and the organic-shape patchwork. So yes, I also LOVE this book! Nicely written basic information on quilting techniques, basic fabric printing, and natural dyeing. There is a great variety of projects to make with well-written and illustrated instructions. If you also are a fan of Arounna Khounooraj's style, you'll also be a fan of this book.
Relaxing read with a gentle teacher. Fresh ideas and observations, soft colors. I learned about the wefty weaving tool. Perfect illustration of how to make a quilter's knot. Excellent! Don't miss this one!
This book was recommended by my Modern Quilt Guild member at one of our sewing sessions where we meet up over Zoom to sew and talk and recommend thing, like books and products that we have found that we want to share. The author does two things that I really like--she uses scraps to make bags and totes that are really beautiful. She works in more mute tons than I usually work with, and she works with linen blends, which I do not (as of yet). She does some dying and fabric printing which I would love to do more of--so there is a lot to love here, and I am glad that I got this on an interlibrary loan, but I did not move to the next step, which is buying a used copy of it.
