Super cute! We found this one at the library and my kids kept taking turns sniffing the old book. This was a fun medieval style classic book. I read to the kids for read aloud.
How many dragons are behind the door is such a feel good book for children! The book talks about how the littlest sister Gunhilde just wants a sense of inclusion and eventually gets it with an unlikely friend. The illustrations are a little bit on the older looking side but they are beautiful and do a great job of helping the book show instead of telling the story. This book used to be read to me often by my mother who was gifted this book when she was a little girl.

I had the opportunity to visit with a friend and check out a few boxes of children's books she had kept from her childhood and her son's. The books are quite old and many are out of print, so it was a wonderful chance to revisit with some stories I read when I was young and to discover others I'd never seen before.
This one has really grown on me. At first it was merely okay, but dd6 keeps requesting it and I've found a rhythm to reading it. It is in verse which I don't normally enjoy reading because of authors who think that if they rhyme they've written poetry. This one doesn't do too bad in that department.
The story is rather cute and involves 13 sisters which sounds lovely to my dd who currently would love to have even one. The lesson is a decent one as the children recognize that they were naughty and it causes a temporary problem.
I liked all the counting in this one and at the end of the book, the dragon is pregnant. This is especially cool since so many of my mommy's friends just had babies and I've been interested in all things baby these days. Mommy thought that the little faceless people were strange looking.
