What a fun little book! I really enjoyed reading through the stories . The descriptive language was a joy to imagine. I loved the lines ‘when he laughed , the sun laughs in the window pane’ and ‘it will taste like a night on the sea.’ The stories were great fun and I really got the sense of being inside a 6 year olds head again. How Julian kept coming up with all these problems but managed to come up with great ideas! I also loved the idea of how a catalogue was a catalogue full of cats hehe which was a great introduction to the world of homonyms hehe I loved it - great fun!!
A collection of six stories which would be ideal to share with KS1 students, particularly Y2. The stories tell the tales of two brothers - Julian and Huey as they navigate life at home with their parents.
This book has short stories that tie together by the end of reading. Just little moments and days featuring Julian, his little brother Huey and his parents.
The stories are all enjoyable and the black and white illustrations are nice to look at too.
A lovely book of short stories, with some of them having messages about how the reader should act. The length of each story mean the book would be a perfect fit for class reading.
A book full of short stories based around the same family, predominately focused on one of the sons around Julian. Perfect for children who are beginning to read longer stories independently.
* I really disliked the first story as the children were afraid of their dad, who shouted a lot! Don't think this is a good message to be promoting, but I know this was published quite a while ago. * Liked the rest of the stories. * Inclusivity, black characters which is rare in children's stories. Very positive.
