Disclaimer: Book read while caring for mother on home hospice.

I somehow didn't grasp that this was a continuation of the 4 Kings series the author had done! Was glad to revisit, I continue to really like the way Kelly Hunter writes.

A fabulous addition...

This is a lovely addition to the four kings stories, picking up the tale of Princess Claudia who had long ago been abducted, went missing and was presumed dead by her brother Prince Casimir of Byzenmaach. Her return, and Claudia's reconnection with her old life, including Tomas, her childhood hero and protector, only a boy himself when she was stolen, is set brilliantly within the fictional landscape of Byzenmaach which, along with Arun and Liesendaach, has some of the most memorable world building seen in contemporary romance. Five stars!

Claudia had been kidnapped as a child to better for a better future for her captors. But as it happened no negotiation occurred for her release. Twenty years later she returns and Tomas is overwhelmed as he had grieved for her thinking she had died. The chemistry between Claudia and Tomas was still strong as ever and gradually they were able to forge ahead with a loving relationship and a happily ever after.

I love it! This modern fairy tale is filled with tension, humour and flirting dialogue. With this couple's traumatic pasts and passionate chemistry, Kellie keeps you guessing to the end. Will they or won't they overcome almost insurmountable obstacles to have their happily ever after?

Well written. Tomas was way hotter and more rugged looking in my head than the plastic Ken doll on the front cover lol.

NA is a fabulous writer and I’ve read most of her books.

This was a perfectly acceptable story but I’m afraid it didn’t live up to my expectations. The first three books were so good - it was always going to be difficult to match them. The world building in the first 3 was exemplary. This one? Somehow not so evocative,

Claudia and Thomas were interesting but their journey was not as engaging as the other couples. I enjoyed it but wasn’t blown away by it.

I can honestly say I don't think I've ever read a modern story where the hero is the King's Falconer. Now I have, and I loved it. Great story, lots of humour and fun dialogue, lots of brooding and such, a lovely romance and a fabulous kingdom. Congratulations Kelly Hunter on your 25th book!
