Kimberly Brown is a South Carolina born and raised author of contemporary/urban romance. She strives to create stories that readers can visualize in their heads as the pages turn. Writing has been a part of her journey since a young age but really became a focal point during her high school years. With the support of her classmates, she began sharing her love of words with others. In 2019 she took her first step towards becoming a serious writer with self-publishing. August of 2021, she made her BLP debut with “Pretty Caged Bird” and is continuing to grow her catalog. With a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a pending masters in Mental Health Counseling, Kimberly loves to incorporate mental health into her writings as she feels it is not talked about or address enough within the African American community.
The first chapter of this book almost took me out of character. I know most of you have seen Diary of a Mad Black Woman so, y’all know exactly what I’m talkin’ about. Raymond put on an Oscar worthy performance because, he gave us his best Charles McCarter. Pasha has been going through it. She’s suffered multiple miscarriages, a still birth, and the death of her parents back to back all within a few years. So, her mental health is on shaky ground right now. Depression has set in, and she has no support from Raymond at all. After spending the day self-reflecting and trying to mentally prepare herself to be a wife to her selfish azz husband, Pasha comes home to find all of her belongings thrown out on the front yard and the locks have been changed. Raymond wastes no time informing her love don’t live here anymore for him and she gotta go. As if his verbal abuse wasn’t hurtful enough, Raymond gleefully informs Pasha he’s moved in his pregnant side chick turned fiancé and she’s now the queen bee of the Sinclaire household.
Callum is the owner of Elite Rides. A sick employee has him pulling double duty so they’re not short staffed. Imagine his surprised when he pulls up to his last ride of the night to find a distraught woman sitting in the middle of her front yard surrounded by trash bags and luggage. It doesn’t take a genius to put two and two together to figure out what’s going on. When Pasha is unable to pay for a hotel room, Callum immediately steps up and offers to cover the charge. He leaves with a heavy heart because, the memory of the pretty lady with the sad eyes is now living rent free in his head. My heart just broke for Pasha. She was young when she married Raymond so, she had no idea she was saying I do to his representative. Pasha had to find out the hard way that she’d been married to a narcissist for 10 years. When she stopped being the perfect housewife, she was no longer useful to Raymond and he discarded her like trash without even blinking.
Courage To Love Again is a story of redemption. Pasha not only has to start her life completely over but, she has to rebuild relationships with her friends and family that Raymond alienated her from. This journey is not an easy one but, with therapy and the help of her good girlfriends, Pasha is able to navigate her grief and loss and come out on the other side with her mental health in a much better place. In the midst of Pasha’s healing journey, we get a budding love story between her and Callum. Everyone should be so lucky to have a Callum in their life. This man was loving, patient, kind, and he gave Pasha the peace she’s been missing for the last 10 years. Even when she constantly pushed back because she was afraid of getting her heart broken again, Callum was there patiently waiting until Pasha was ready to be loved the way she deserved. “I got you” and he did. Courage To Love Again was a good but, very intense read. This book touches on topics such as miscarriages, still birth, depression, and verbal abuse that may be triggering for some people. So, please be advised. Thank you to Black Odyssey Media and NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.
“I’m bruised...slightly broken.” “So am I.” “What are two bruised, slightly broken people supposed to do together?” “Heal.”
If you want to read real romance, read Kimberly Brown. Period.
She broke my heart the first time with I Could Fall In Love and now for the second time with Courage to Love Again. I recommend that first book wherever I get the chance, and now this one will be joining the ranks because it was simply brilliant.
Kimberly's writing is just magical and transports you directly into the scene. You feel as if you're really there, a friend of the characters, experiencing whatever they are. You're crying with them, laughing with them, loving with them.
I swear, I went through all stages of grief and happiness during this book, Miss Brown put me on an emotional rollercoaster and I can only thank her for it.
The start of the book had me cursing Raymond's name for how he treated Pasha, he really went all out, insulting her appearance, her mental health, throwing her out of the house just so he could move his mistress in...would I be a bad person if I said I wish Callum did hurt him?
My heart broke for her while she tried to put herself back together, wouldn't accept any help, then gradually did put trust in her friends and Callum and managed to find healing. It was a hard road for her, and I'm glad she had so many people in her circle who were ready to help her through it.
And Callum...could he be any more perfect? The answer is no, he's amazing. He patiently waited for Pasha to get better mentally, to be single legally, and for her to be ready to take things beyond friendship. He never forced her into anything, said a bad word to her or made her feel less than. He always built her up from their very first meeting, that's what a real man does.
I adored their romance okay, a d o r e d. There's not a single thing I had an issue with or that I felt like should be added. It was just *chefs kiss*.
This is also partially a Cristian read, but not in a "classic" sense because there is some steam. But the characters do pray to God, and trust in Him to help them through hard times. Pasha and her friends also believe Callum is an angel sent just for her and yup, I believe it too. He really is that good.
There are some heavier topics covered inside, so do check the warnings before starting, your mental health is just as important as Pasha's!
Lastly, huge congratulations to Kimberly Brown on her first trad pub book!!! I'm so happy for her, even more readers will have a chance to read her incredible books now. And trust me guys, whichever one you start with, you will be blown away.
*Thank you to the publishers and Netgalley for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review*
Whew! What a rollercoaster of a story. I found myself deeply immersed in Pasha’s heartfelt journey. Her story resonated with me on a profound level, as she navigated grief and loss, only to emerge stronger and more resilient than ever. I felt as though I was besides her at her most vulnerable, experiencing every heart-wrenching moment of her journey firsthand. The pain of her broken marriage and losses was palpable, drawing me deeper into her world with every turn off the page.
And at the heart of Pasha's journey was her blossoming friendship and romance with Callum(Every girl deserves a Callum in their life….don’t let nobody tell you otherwise). His kindness, patience, unwavering presence, love and loyalty breathed new life into her weary soul. Their love story was a delicate beauty that left me captivated, rooting for them every step of the way as they navigated the complexities of trust and vulnerability.
As much as I enjoyed the romance between Pasha and Callum, what I truly loved about this book was its authentic portrayal of the healing process, as a nonlinear journey with both setbacks and triumphs. Through moments of laughter, tears, hope, rekindled friendships and unexpected connections, Pasha transforms from brokenness to wholeness.
Her story is indeed a powerful reminder of the resilience of the human spirit and the power of love to mend even the deepest of wounds.
Thanks to Black Odyssey Media and NetGalley for the ARC!
Miss Brown sure has a way of writing authentic stories that fill my cup up EVERY SINGLE TIME. This book was so addicting I started it just to see what the first chapter was giving and next thing I know it was 4:30AM
Pasha has had a rough few years and some tough losses like losing her parents, and her son. Whilst she’s taking the steps to get better in therapy her husband decides to put her out and move in his side piece who happens to be pregnant. Yeah so trifling.
Callum lost his parents when he was 18 and was forced to make some sacrifices for himself and his sister so they wouldn’t end up in the system. He stepped up and has now built his business from the ground up. One of which is a car service which is how he meets Pasha as she’s sitting on the curb after her husband throws her out.
Watching these two build a solid friendship and fall in love was so beautiful. The fact that Callum was so patient, kind, gentle and intentional with the way he treated Pasha it was like he was tailor made just for her. You can just tell he was raised by a strong black woman and we love that.
We love when a black woman is loved the way she deserves . The way this author writes her stories and characters they always feel like home to me and I will forever be a fan. This book was EVERYTHING.
Please check your triggers as there are quite sensitive topics discussed such as: infidelity, still birth, miscarriage, depression and anxiety.
I loved this amazing story of redemption and healing. Pasha’s journey was emotional, it was touching, it was heartbreaking, it was beautiful and it was swoon-worthy. She was the definition of strong, a fighter, resilient, and deserving. The title perfectly captures Pasha's journey and how things turn out for her. I just loved her determination to find independence, peace, healing, and truly the courage to love again. Life or her cowardly husband chewed her and spat her out, but an angel in the form of an attractive man by the name of Callum became her peace and her savior. Pasha also had some amazing, loyal, and loving friends in her corner who played pivotal roles in her healing journey.
Callum was the epitome of patience and kindness. His love for his family and loved ones is beautiful and so selfless. The love and kindness he showed Pasha was almost spiritual.
It was such a treat to see Pasha heal and get the real love she so deserves. Just as she was falling for Callum, so was I. He was perfect. Loved this piece. it was thorough, well-developed and so touching.
Didn't love that Diary of a Mad Black Woman opening, but great story.
Thank you NetGalley and Black Odyssey Media for the e-ARC.
There’s something about an intentional man!! I went into this book knowing I’d love it. Kimberly Brown’s writing is so beautiful. She creates characters with depth and a purity I love. It’s rare that an author gives the woman and the man a back story; this is one of those stories you get to learn about both love interests.
Callum and Pasha’s love story is one I will think about for a long time.
The story starts out with Pasha getting kicked out of her home by her husband of 5 years (Raymond ain’t shit). From there, she meets Callum, and this leads her to not only finding true love but also self-love.
Pasha does the work to heal throughout this book, and I honestly think Kimberly does this journey of self-healing better than a recently published book that everyone loves, but that’s neither here nor there! Callum is patient yet intentional through this entire journey. He shows up for Pasha in so many ways. I think my favorite one was the smash room date day.
Pasha is surrounded by love from her found family throughout the entire book. Which I loved because Pasha had experienced so many losses in such a short period of time. She needed people to love on her. I loved that Pasha didn’t let grief consume her in the end, she took the necessary steps to move forward and to be able to nurture a healthy relationship with Callum.
Both MC’s shared similar grief stories, but it was not a trauma bond that linked them together, which once again I loved. The similarities helped them be there for each other when the hard times came, and because of that, the work they put in rewarded them by the end of the book. Their love is so beautiful, I swear it influenced other people. side eyes, Avyn.
All of the characters, except a few, were so lovable. Everyone needs an Avyn and Bella in their corner. This is a story of grief, love, found family, and new beginnings. I would highly recommend this one.
Please read the TW warnings as there are few which includes: infidelity, miscarriage, still birth and depression etc.
This is my first book by this author and it won’t be the last one. Of course I didn’t know what to expect but the way the book started with that man who name we won’t say I knew this was going to be a good read!
This books shows us what dealing with losing everything looks like to be being loved properly. The way Pasha navigated those things I was so proud of her at the end of this book I never felt so proud of a character in a book because the way I was rooting for her you would’ve thought she was my friend in real life.
thank you to NetGalley and Black Odyssey Media for an eARC of this book in exchange for my honest review 🩷 • • y’all I really enjoyed this book. it definitely had its sad moments but there was so much love, kindness, and encouragement present as well. Pascha’s family and her found family are really some great people. the way they loved on her, the patience they had with her, and the grace given to her…wow. such a blessing.
Callum is a GOOD. MAN. I loved him pretty early on in the book lol. he was just so real. the way he loved and cared for his family, friends, and Pascha was amazing man. he is definitely a book husband, not a boyfriend 🤣
Avyn, Tia, and Blake were such good friends to Pascha. Avyn is my girl especially though. she really took care of Pascha even when she wanted and tried to refuse it. like no girl, you’re not doing this by yourself. she was so real. and yay for her getting it together with ole dude 🤭
there’s so much I could say about this book fr but I don’t wanna spoil it lol. I would recommend this book but please check tw/cw 🫶🏽
Courage to love again is the perfect title for this book. The blurb really tells it a lot. I loved seeing Pasha find herself and true love after so much tragedy and heartache. Happy reading!
This one was a little too wholesome for me but still a good read. I took a half point away because of the female narrator. All of that swallowing, pausing and her sounding like she was reading directly from the book detracted from the story.
(This review was right after reading 🤣) Whew I have to say 10/10 must read again…. Baby Kimberly neverrrrrrr disappoints and this was a quick read for me. I don’t want to spoil it but Raymond was a a-hole. I loved Callum and I’m so happy he showed Pash exactly who he was and remained true to that because she had been through a lot. I feel like we need to hear more from Avyn.
Let me start by saying Kimberly Brown can do no wrong. I love to see her spreading her wings into contemporary romance.
This book is an excellent story of love, loss, and navigating your way through the darkness back to the light with the help of good friends and good….You have to read the book for the rest.
Thank you to Black Odyssey Media and KB for the ARC.
Kimberly Brown shows she has range with her latest release, Courage to Love Again. I expected this to be steamy and short read but what I was met with was a sweet and slow burning story. There are threads of religious influence weaved throughout the story that worked to build the bond between main characters. But don't let that deter you, Kim finds balance in the tension developed to progress the story forward.
This story is full of emotion and hardship centering around some heavy triggers like depression, miscarriage, cheating and divorce. Pascha's story is one that brings one to the breaking point while finding a way to rebuild them piece by piece. In her rediscovery of womanhood she learns that her friends are a source of renewed supported, her new man is a constant and that she is worthy of love.
I encourage readers to take care of themselves as they read this but know the message is that you are enough.
I really enjoyed Courage to Love Again! The affirmations and encouragement throughout were inspiring, and I loved the devotion Callum showed to Pasha. Their story beautifully captured the journey of healing and learning to love again. My only critique is that some of the extra dialogue about Callum’s family felt a bit out of place and could have been left out. Still, it was a heartfelt and motivating read.
What can I say?? This is Kimberly Brown’s first traditional published book. It had everything we expect and love from a Kimberly Brown book, a great storyline, well developed characters, spicy scenes and a happily ever after. Pasha experienced a few devastating losses that led to a mental health crisis. As she addresses her grief and develop positive coping strategies, she becomes the woman she wants to be. Pasha meets Callum at a low point in her life. Callum is sincere, thoughtful, honest and kind. He and Pasha develop a friendship which eventually becomes a romantic relationship. I enjoyed this book and would recommend to others who like a realistic portrayal of love, resilience and healing.

We didn’t just get a glimpse of Pasha’s past in a prologue then jump forward. We got to see all the ugly and watch her grow.
I don’t want to give too much away but, Pasha meets Callum after a day of therapy due to depression and some post partum, when she gets home and her husband is kicking her out of there home with his new piece! Callum who owns his own car service just so happens to be the driver she called. He became her angel.
We watched her get back to a better version of herself. Her friends, Callum and even his friends just supporting her every step of the way! One of the things I loved the most about this was seeing Callum not only stand for her but not get in the way of her growth and the things she had going on. He stood by her side with nothing but genuine love and support. Avyn was that girl! Even though I looked at her like “girl why you telling your friend business?!” But it was all in the name of getting her friend back to herself. I loved seeing their friendship come back together as well.
Callum! A man honey!!! He stepped up for his sister when his parents died at 18 to raise her and made a beautiful life for them. Him just seeing Pasha at her lowest and providing her with the friendship, love and even more family than either of them had at the moment was beautiful!
Ms. Brown really knows how to show a black woman being loved properly no matter where she started. And this book was a beautiful example of that!
Yeah Ex Husband and his new chick got what they deserved!
This was definitely a 5-star read! PLEASE CHECK TRIGGER WARNINGS
This book read exactly like a Tyler Perry movie. Reminded me so much of Diary of A Mad Black Woman. Although that was a good movie, the book was almost the same exact plot! I didn’t like it but I didn’t hate it. I’m indifferent. I feel like a lot of bookstagram hyped this one up and normally I am obsessed with Kimberly Browns writing but this one didn’t do it for me. It had strong character development and a great plot but if I had known how it was going to be like a TP movie, I would have taken it off my TBR.
Some things I did love were the relationship between Pasha and Callum. The banter and all the things he did for her were so sweet! Imagine coming home and seeing all your clothes/shoes thrown out on the lawn and your husband is kicking you out of “his” house because he wants a divorce and has another woman? I wanted to knock Raymond’s head off. If he wanted a divorce he should have went about it in a different way. I felt so bad for Pasha; she was really going through it. The first couple chapters had me hooked but also sad and angry because of how Pasha was treated. The verbal and emotional abuse was a lot! Pasha feeling so betrayed and hurt, hit home for me. Been there, done that and that shot does not feel good one bit. There were times I wanted to jump in the book and console her. Thank God for her bestie.
Callum and his sister’s relationship was dope! You can tell a lot about a man the way he treats his sister. His other family were pretty fucked up. Money will definitely ruin relationships. I’m happy about how Callum handled all the situations that were thrown to him in the book. Overall not a bad book, but just wasn’t my fav from her!
This was the most healing, self love, finding the courage to love, and allowing someone to love you story I’ve ever read. Baby Pascha, had thee worst husband ever and the fact that he put her through the things he did was despicable. You got to be a selfish, condescending, nasty bastard to do what he did to her.
Pascha went through so much just for her husband to put her out and divorce her like she was nothing. Baby insert Callum. Now that’s what you call a man. Callum ended up being the driver who picks Pascha up from what use to be her home after her husband does the unthinkable. He ends up standing up for her and then getting her out of there and to a hotel.
Except when Pascha gets to the hotel she realizes her sorry behind soon to be ex husband has cancelled all her cards. So Callum steps in and pays for her to stay at the minimum 2 weeks. Now although Pascha tries to fight him on it, she finally gives in. She settles in and falls into a deep depression. With all the bad cards she’s been dealt, she’s truly at her lowest.
This story shows us how she had to make hard and tough decisions to heal and make herself whole again without someone taking care of her. Her friends come back into her life and she allows them to this time. She becomes friends with Callum and things start to turn around for her. From friends to lovers to forever. The love was strong and beautiful especially when it had to go through so much to grow.
Let’s just say Pascha’s journey to self healing, loving herself again, healing through grief, and finding joy was one hell of a ride and she had the best people to help her through it and love her through it. Miss Brown wrote a remarkable and incredible story of learning to love again after being hurt and taking so many losses.
I thought this was a decent story, I felt there were a lot of corny moments that just came across a little icky for me. I also recommend reading it versus listening to it because the main female character is 28 in the story but the voice of the reader is older and she sounds much more mature so it threw me off. She also sounded very much like she was reading it verbatim from a paper and it made it kinna hard to take in at times. But the story itself was not bad at all. I’m glad she was able to be courages again.
I went into this thinking it was going to be a light read. What I received was a heartbreaking and beautiful story about the ability to overcome trauma through self love. Pashas story made me cry tears of sadness and happiness. Every woman deserves the unwavering love of a man like Callum.
Kimberly Brown writes in a way that truly feeds your soul. Hands down 5 stars for this book.
I will say there are some content warnings in this one which the author does disclose at the beginning of the book. When we first meet Pasha, the FMC, she is broken and dealing with depression after suffering multiple miscarriages and delivering a stillborn child and losing both of her parents. She is depressed and has contemplated suicide but is going through therapy to try and heal but she is not herself and her husband is an absolute jerk. The beginning of the book reminded me of a Tyler Perry movie (Diary of a Mad Black Woman) with her husband kicking her out of the house and moving his new woman in. Her driver Callum, the MMC, sees all of this and is basically an angel in disguise to help her out with getting a hotel room since her husband cancelled her credit cards and she has no money of her own as she didn't have a job.
After they meet, Callum cannot get her off his mind because he is drawn to her, after going through so much, Pasha finally agrees to take some help from her friend while she gets herself back on her feet. Callum gave her his number in case she needed it but she never used it. After Pasha gets jobs to make some money and afford her own place, Callum runs into her again and offers to help her move and be her friend as he wants to be a part of her life any way she will take him.
You knew where the story was going to end up but I enjoyed the ride watching it get there. Callum never forced Pasha to do anything she didn't want to do and took his time being her friend and being there for her how she would let him even though everyone around them just knew there was chemistry there and that they would eventually get together. Everything seemed to fall into place naturally and at her own speed. The way in which Ms. Brown wrote these characters it's like you were there with them and only wanted the best for them. The supporting cast of characters was good as well and I loved how they all were there and seemed genuinely supportive of Pasha and all she went through and continued to struggle with at times and helped her to find the courage to love again.
I liked the pacing, the flow, the character development and of course the HEA in more ways than one. Overall, It was a great, well written story that I gladly give 5 stars to and would recommend to fans of romance books that are not triggered by any of the content warnings.
Thank you to the publisher Black Odyssey Media and NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.
What a beautiful story. The author did an amazing job with this story. The title definitely fit the journey that Pasha went through and the outcome of how things ended for her. My emotions were heightened from the very beginning of this story. Pasha went through so much, and to be alone during the process was very heartbreaking. I loved Pasha's determination to gain her independence, heal, and grow all while finding love again. She couldn't have asked for a better support system from her friends and Callum, who she allowed to show her she is deserving of all good things. These two were put together for a reason, and it truly paid off in the end. Beautiful ending. I highly recommend reading this book.
Where do I find men like this for my friends? Ones that are objectively and positively obsessed? Because lowkey we need them out here.
Callum... my sweet sweet man Callum. You are the blueprint.
I really liked Pascha and thought that she was very authentic in her actions. She was pushed to her brink and I'm happy that she found a healthy way to get through it. Their relationship was sweet and then real steamy and I enjoyed every minute of it.
The audiobook was fantastic and I had a great time!
Thank you to Netgalley and Black Odyssey for an e-copy.
This book does deal with some heavy subject matters. However, the author handled them in a sensitive manner that did not leave me feeling overwhelmed with grief. I wanted to see the characters win. It was clear whom I did not like, and I thought the subject was handled with tact. I enjoyed it.
Callum, Callum, Callum....his support and love!!!! The story centers around the drama and tragedy that was Pascha. But Callum, was the star! Every woman in the world deserves to be loved by Callum! Period!
It definitely gave Diary of a Mad Black woman and Why Did I Get Married but I loved Posha and Callum's story. It was beautiful. The growth was nice to watch. I wish you know who was around to see how much she grew and regretted their decisions
