3.5 stars Nice sweet read about a hero who is used to getting his way but the more cautious heroine makes him have to wait for something in life. The heroine who is the shy sort isn't sure the hero and her can make it and the people around them feel the same.
Reading romance is a bizarre experience as someone who loves literature and language because, for whatever reason, I don't expect my romance novels to be well-written in order for me to enjoy them. Gina Wilkins' It Could Happen to You is a perfect example of this phenomenon. The language is simplistic and hardly illustrative, and the character development was practically non-existent. Over and over again, we were told that Kim was a coward, afraid of everything, but we read few examples that describe her reactions to such moments. Nevertheless, I found myself rooting for Kim and Zach, despite their superficial characters, and I enjoyed reading about them on dates, trying to figure each other out. Unfortunately, the excitement faded after the initial dates, and their breakup and inevitable reconciliation were poorly developed. They lobbed accusations at each other and gave up far too quickly; then, they came back together without any consideration for what drew them apart in the first place. I enjoyed reading this book, certainly, but I can't bring myself to give it a higher rating because, frankly, it's not great writing.
Un poquito lento, me ha costado leerlo a pesar de que no es especialmente extenso o complejo. Y me ha gustado más el secundario que el prota... pero para pasar un ratito no está mal.
