“For the beginning to intermediate bonsai enthusiast, outlining in straightforward fashion the essentials of the care, creation, and display of these lovely miniature trees...this book should be the only one you need.”—Booklist.
If you are interest but don't know what bonsai is all about, then this is a good place to start. If you know a little and need to know more about the art of bonsai then this is a good to read. If you have several years of experience you already know that you don't know it all, so like me you should make this one of your reference books. I especially liked the section about pots and soils. There are lots of good advice drawn from this author's experience that I find useful today. I regularly find myself thumbing through the pages even 10 years after purchase.
I consider myself a repeat beginner. This book is thorough and answers every question that I have yet had about the practice of bonsai, and many that I did not know enough to ask. The book utilizes several methods of teaching, and presents detailed examples of the techniques, tools, and processes in use. I can not recommend this work enough.
Informative as it should be. Starts with beginner methods and quickly moves through novice and expert growing. Didn't care at all for the cascading, dead trunk look that seemed to go on for far too long.
Forgot to add when I got this...new hobby (for sanity)...treating as a reference book, not a start-to-finish book for me...5 stars for value of content
