Anna Adams was in the US Navy, also working on a business degree full-time, when her first child was born. That little guy changed her life--created priorities. She wanted her children to grow up, believing they could do the most unlikely things.
Like writing--which she'd done since she was old enough to force someone to listen to stories and then old enough to pick up a pencil and a piece of paper.
She switched to an English degree--and ignored her husband when he asked if she planned to "open an English store," and eventually found jobs doing any kind of writing. And she learned to write books.
Twenty-something books later, she's a USA Today Bestseller, and she's still believes in unlikely things. Like true love that everyone can believe in.
What do i say,i completed reading in the night but i m so conflicted with the story and decisions that the heroin took
The story is that the heroin Cassie was raped in the house, she had left the bathroom window a little open for fresh air, that monster came through the window held the knife at Casie's breast and raped her,her husband could'nt deal with it and became distant whenever he tried to make love with Cassie he always had images of that monster taking Cassie and he is then unable to make love to Cassie, which Cassie took as rejection -she thought he was shamed and cannot touch her but he repeatedly said that he was never shamed but he is unable to remove the images from his mind and he wants to kill that monster who did it but Cassie chose not to believe him and went ahead with what she thought ,does the distance widened between them
Her father was another story,Leo never looked into her eyes and blamed her for keeping the window open indierectly blaming her for the rape and was cruel to her unintentionally, all Cassie wanted was her father's support and assurance everything will be fine
and the town was another story, they constantly kept talking about the incident, some blamed her some pitied her some laughed at her and even went ahead saying she deserved it(i was so angry when i read this line cause my firm belief is no matter how bad the woman may be but no woman deserves this cruelty done to her)anyways the monster was caught and sent to jail but still the talks as always continued
so when Cassie found out she was pregnant, she asked for divorce and left the town, never informed her husband she was pregnant and made a life for herself, she started a shelter "Kind Hearts"where the woman who were raped were given love, care, nurturing and counselling and then as the pregnancy continued she also decided to discard all bitter feelings cause without making peace with the bitterness she won't be able to love the child and also went to counselling for 3 years and named the child hope
Now her father is sick and she is called back that is how the story starts and how she deals with coming back to the town and facing the past and the love of her life
the story was very interesting cause here the author has not only picked up a sensitive issue such as rape but also another difficult issue rape child, which how Cassie deals with it and when she has finally decided to give birth she makes peace with it and never ever makes her daughter feel unwanted,i applaud Cassie for this cause its so difficult to be pregnant with rape child and it is so difficult to face the situation but Cassie made the most difficult decision of her life(somewhere down she also knew seeing the child's face she will remember the incident) but Cassie handles and deals with it so bravely
But the things i disliked were Cassie never gave time to her father, husband to come to terms with the incident, when her hubby told her he never blamed her so many times but she choose not to believe him, even in current time she keeps pushing him away, but if he is seen with another woman she is angry and so jealous ,Cassie was so confused when it came to her love and mariage but she handled motherhood so well
It is not a easy read but the book takes a hard look at the issues that affect families as well as deep emotional traumas.
This book was beautifully written. i loved the way the author brought everything together.
Cassie- She was a wonderful strong heroine, the shit she went through and the fact that she is still standing makes me so proud.
Van - the poor guy i felt for him, how do you feel when your put in the situtation in all honesty i dont know how anyone would feel unless your been through it yourself. but god you could see how much he loved cassie, i loved that in this book you could see the love from the hero. for once it was the hero acting like a lost puppy
the secondary characters were great aswell.
will say this book contains rape aftermath of rape so if that triggers some people you have been warned.
well done to the author who wrote this book. kudos for an amazing book and one that i will re read!!!
Yeah, so. I keep trying to branch out with authors. Sometimes it's a success, and sometimes, not so much. This book falls into the latter category. And I really wanted this book to be good too because the synopsis looked interesting. The plot could have been interesting. However, the execution was completely wrong. Instead of a heart-wrenching drama, filled with intense passion and chemistry, we got a couple bickering back and forth for the whole book. The whole book. There wasn't much of a conclusion until the last handful of pages. I wanted to like the book, but it was nothing but boring dialogue--not that dialogue isn't great, but none of it moved the plot. Nothing got resolved in it. It was just...blech. We finally got a resolution the last few pages. You could honestly read the first twenty-five percent of the book and then skip to the very end and be fine.
i began then stopped. hard read.... lots of rioting emotions.... and dealing w/ rape and the aftermath is never pretty...... not for the faint hearted.
