Hit All the Mr. Right Buttons

She's been out of high school for ten years, but the moment Chloe McDaniels opened the invitation to her reunion, panic hits. Three girls had made those years the worst of her life, bullying her and ostracizing her. She never knew why they hated her so, but it left her scarred. If it hadn't been for Simon Ford, her best friend since third grade, she never would have made it through.

Relying on Simon for some much needed emotional support, she laid out her plan to improve herself in the six weeks until the dreaded reunion: lose weight, get buff, and get a gorgeous date, then sweep into the reunion with her head held high to show the three witches that she was over their years of torment. Problem is, Simon keeps insisting that she doesn't need to lose weight, certainly doesn't need to have her teeth capped or her hair straightened, and though he supports a healthy lifestyle, he keeps assuring her that she doesn't need to change to be lovely.

He's her best friend, though. He's supposed to say that. Um...his assurances aren't supposed to send a thrill through her that leaves her yearning...right?

Simon can't even begin to express his frustration. He's been in love with Chloe for years, so he's used to her being completely oblivious to his feelings, but she's also oblivious to her own worth, refusing to see how gorgeous and sexy she is. It's driving him crazy. And now she's asked him to set her up with a hot co-worker of his and the jealousy is killing him. There's no way he'd do anything to risk having Chloe in his life, but just once he'd like her to see herself as the perfect woman she is. Perfect for him.

Okay, I have a confession to make. I'm a sap. It's true. I love feel-good books with feel-good romances, where men and women are swept away by the awesomeness of their everlasting love. Yeah, yeah, I know...that doesn't always come across in my book choices or my reviews. It's a carefully guarded secret, believe me. It's the truth, though. Sap. Me. To make matters worse, I'm also a complete sucker for two particular themes in romance fiction, the friends-to-lovers and unrequited-to-requited love themes. And by 'sucker' I mean those themes are my kryptonite, robbing me of my ability to objectively review the books in which they are featured. If either one of those themes pop up in a book and are pulled off with anything remotely resembling competence, I love the story.

Mr. Right There All Along had not just one, but both themes, and Braun pulled them off far more than competently.

I loved it. I loved it even though Chloe's issues with self esteem would normally have annoyed me. Braun kept the tone light enough that it didn't bother me, and she injected a lot of humor into several of Chloe's improvement attempts that were...less than successful. I'm also a big supporter of books that don't peddle 'classic' beauty as the be-all-end-all, and loved that Simon was so staunch in his enlightened opinions of what makes Chloe sexy and desirable.

The only issue I had at all with the book was the end. It was very abrupt. The shorter length of the book may have been to blame, but the conclusion didn't give me the totally satisfied (*cough*sappy-happy*cough*) feeling I was hoping for. Instead, the characters had a complete reversal of situation without any explanation as to why there was an about face and the relationship leapt to the HEA with very little discussion and negligible development.

Eh, it's a minor complaint. Like I said - kryptonite. Braun's book was a delicious treat and I enjoyed it immensely. Her writing style is light, humorous, and fun. Her characters were likable and had great chemistry. The plot was quick to develop, well-paced, balanced, and entertaining. I enjoyed it immensely. Mr. Right There All Along was like a fudge sundae on a hot summer night...sans cherry, maybe, but still yummy and oh-so-good.

Chloe McDaniels and Simon Ford have been best friends since they were kids. She, the unpopular geek with glasses and frizzy hair, and he the studious nerd who liked to blend into the woodwork, their friendship has lasted through all sorts of ups and downs. Now, with their upcoming high school reunion rapidly approaching, Chloe has begun to freak out about facing the people who made her school life miserable, and Simon has finally had enough of Chloe's self depreciation.

Terrified that his long-time attraction will ruin their friendship, Simon is finding it harder and harder to maintain the status quo between him and Chloe, and Chloe's newfound attitude is not making things any easier.

A very fast, light-hearted read, this book was absolutely wonderful.

While at times it bordered a bit on chick-lit, in that there was a great deal of pressure on Chloe to accept herself for who she was, and to stand up to the people who were constantly taking advantage of her and making her feel inferior, there was a strong emphasis on the budding romance between best friends. Simon was delicious, and Chloe felt real, and I simply could not wait for them to get together.
While I was disappointed that there was no actual lovemaking in the story, explicit or otherwise, I still greatly enjoyed it.

Recommended for fans of heroines who finally realize that nobody can make them feel inferior, of heroes who finally gain the courage to reach for their greatest desire, and of finding out that love has been waiting for you in the most unexpected place all along.

This was a really good friends to lovers story. Simon and Chloe have been there for each other for everything, from her terrible days in high-school to her break-ups, to his father's multiple divorces etc and for some reason Chloe has never liked the women he dated and so when he tells her he just broke off a relationship she is pleased, it is obvious to us that she is jealous but not to her.

When she gets a ten year reunion invitation she changes, becomes crazy about her apperance, losing weight, showing off a man since high-school was hell for her. It wasn't great for Simon but he has moved on and he has always tried to make Chloe see that she is perfect that way she is and deserves better than the losers she dates, but he is a supportive friend.

Her efforts to better herself annoy him, and he snaps when she talks about doing something to her teeth but when something goes wrong with her tanning thing he is there for her. Simon has loved her for years but has never done anything about it because he doesn't want to lose her, like he lost his step-mother after the divorce so he hides his feelings really well.

I loved the moment when Simon tells her that she is not defined by what happened in high-school and that she should stop letting her boss and sister bring her down and that she was perfect. Of course Chloe doesn't catch on to his feelings till the very end and even realizes his fears.

A sweet book with a heroine with too many self-esteem issues.

This was a very nice friends to lovers story. I loved how the hero kept telling the heroine all along that she was perfect and didn't need to change a thing. She was preoccupied with getting all skinny and dolled up to go to their 10th year high school reunion. Well written and sweet it took place over 6 weeks and was a series of scenes showing her determination to change herself and his efforts to help her even though he thinks she's already perfect. This was a chaste story with only a couple of kisses and one aborted (non explicit) love scene. Very enjoyable. I would try this author again.

I received this story free from netGalley for review.

This book is an absolute gem if you're in the mood for a heartwarming romantic comedy. The "fake relationship turns real" trope perfectly delivers a delightful mix of sweetness and humor. Chloe and Simon’s lifelong friendship—built on love and support—blossoms into a romance that feels both genuine and charming. Their journey from friends to lovers is beautifully captured, making it easy to root for them from the first page to the last. The quirky moments and emotional depth make this story not only fun but also memorable. I can already picture the movie adaptation!

1.5 estrellas.

This book was a wonderful surprise. I have little experience with Harlequin romance stories except in manga and they are usually ridiculous and filled with ridiculously overexplained love scenes that the characters most often rush into or the romance is disturbingly controlling from one side. I'm so glad to say this incredible experience was none of that! It was heartwarming, relatable, heartbreaking, hilariously embarrassing at times in a good way and not over filled with raunchy and rushed love scenes. Thank you! It's why I don't read adult fiction as much and this book gave me hope! Nerdy friend turned hot shot, and hot apparently, Tech company owner with serious mommy and daddy issues and his quirky, nerdy, low self eteem based, talented and decent young woman who have been best friends for years trying to protect their valuable friendship while attraction grows and challenges their relationship forever. It was relatable, her self esteem, body image, low self worth being further smacked down by family(sister)and stalled in a job that takes advantage of her. While her bff deals with a lifetime of love and attraction he's afraid to give into for fear of loosing her like his mom who walked out on him and his father's second wife did too after giving him a taste of lovingmotherhood. Watching his dad serial marriage and divorce track. It wasn't annoying or eye rolling and I couldn't put this book down. I downed the last half this book until 4am. If I'd had time, I'd have finished it in a day. Thank you for a wonderfully heartwarming change to the overly dramatic, graphic, stale and rushed garbage I usually get tricked into when I try to read adult fiction

The blinders are off.

Chloe McDaniels was plagued throughout high school by the "unholy trio." They sabotaged her senior yearbook picture, among other things. Her childhood friend Simon had always tried to lessen their impact on her.

Even now they'd arranged for her invite to their 10-year HS reunion to arrive late. Chloe is worried. She's certain the "unholy trio" have all married great-looking men and are living wonderful lives. While she has a part-time job where her boss walks all over her with a promise of a full-time job "soon." She has to depend on her freelance work to make ends meet. More importantly, there's no boyfriend in sight. She embarks on an improvement regimen that ends in a tragic result at a tanning salon.

Simon Ford had known Chloe since third grade when his family moved into the same apartment building. They've been best friends ever since.

He was the geeky kid in high school. Now the IT company he founded is on track to make the Fortune 500. He seems to always date women that are the opposite of Chloe. Women she'd like to look like.

Simon wishes Chloe could see herself through his eyes and realize how beautiful she actually is, rather than the chunky, frizzy-haired woman she sees. He's been in Love with her for years. The fear of losing her has held him back until now. It's time to deal with the fantastic possibilities...

It's a lovely story, and almost chaste. I like the characters, the dialogue and story, but it lacks in passion to be perfect. Or maybe I'm just spoiled...

An enjoyable read. I thought it was a little short. I, personally, like when there is a longer exposition and build up. It makes the moment when they inevitably get together in a romance book "better". If I have less emotional stock in the characters and their story, the ending isn't as notable. However, I do think this is a good, quick read. Something to grab when you want an entertaining read that doesn't take too long. Like rewatching a wholesome movie on Netflix when you don't want to invest in picking something new.

How I got this book: NetGalley

There isn’t much I love more than a great friends to lovers story. I don’t know what it is about it, but this trope always manages to suck me in and keep me reading to the very end. I just love it. While Mr. Right There All Along had a great premise, great potential – it was just average.

Chloe and Simon have been best friends forever. They’ve always had each other’s backs and continue to be there for each other day in and day out. When they both get a notice for their high school reunion, Chloe freaks out. She had an awful high school experience, and isn’t looking to go back and face her old fears. But Simon knows she needs to and presses her to attend.

Simon has always had a thing for his best friend, and it’s getting harder and harder to keep it from her. He never wants to lose her friendship, and worries that if they take things to a relationship level, their friendship might be ruined. He frets over the right decision to make, finds himself kissing her at every turn, and finally realizes that she is what he always wanted.

This book was actually somewhat bland for me. There were no great moments, nothing spectacular that really drew me in. The writing was well executed, the characters developed, there just wasn’t that extra something that engaged me and pulled me into the story.

The romance itself wasn’t especially abundant in this book. Sure, Chloe and Simon shared a few steamy kisses, but as far as the heat level, that was about as hot as it got. The vast majority of the book dealt with their friendship slowly evolving from friends to friends who kissed. To friends who thought about said kiss day and night to friends who decided they were in love. It was slow paced and not super exciting, more like comfortable and laid back.

Chloe’s journey to self acceptance was almost chick-lit in nature. Much of the book was regarding her need to accept her inner beauty, struggle with self imagine and taking charge of her life. While I enjoy a women’s empowerment as much as the next gal, to me it just doesn’t provide the kind of reading experience that is exciting. So while Chloe’s self discovery was a great underlying storyline, it didn’t really add anything to the overall story for me.

All in all Mr. Right There All Along was a friends to lovers book with all the right ingredients, just missing short on the final product. I just wished it would have had… more. The story was just very average across the board. It wasn’t exceptional, and it wasn’t bad either. It was just… average.

I give this a C

Three out of five star rating.

Mr. Right There All Along was a cute, fun, and lighthearted romantic tale between two friends who secretly admired one another for years.

High School for Chloe was one long, brutally embarrassing journey she thought she'd put far, far behind her - and she had, until the blasted reunion announcement landed on her doorstep. After talking to her long time (strictly platonic) best friend Simon, she starts plotting out operation revamp, in which she plans to completely overhaul herself - mind, body and soul - and make the tormenting teasing tarts eat their words at the reunion... With Simon's help, she'll complete her transformation AND take a drool-worthy date to the reunion, a man who is on Simon's legal team... Ah, revenge will be sweet!

Simon has had it bad for Chloe ever since he can remember. What she sees as flaws, he sees as endearing qualities. Too afraid to confess or act on his feelings for Chloe, he's immersed himself in his business and in dating nearly any woman that is the complete opposite of Chloe. When Chloe asks for his help in her personal crusade, he reluctantly helps, all the while trying to convince Chloe that she is perfect just the way she is. How far will Simon go to maintain his strictly friendship stance with Chloe, especially when she asks for his help luring in the hot young lawyer who every woman lusts after (and he knows it)? Ugh... Somedays, it "just friends" isn't enough.

Overall impressions:
Chloe was hysterical. Actually, I could completely relate to her neurotic thoughts and her outlandish attempts to become a "better" version of herself. Really, what woman CAN'T identify with that desire?

Simon was grounded and the best friend Chloe could have. He was supportive, he was a mind reader, and to top it all off - he was an uber-cutie!!!!

The story was light with funny exchanges and doubt-filled/hope-filled moments of attraction and action. There was quite a few missed opportunities or misunderstood intentions, which fueled & confused both Chloe and Simon's attraction and friendship.

My largest complaint was with the ending. I will not spoil it for any future readers, however, I will just say that I felt the air leave my balloon a little faster than I would have liked...

Great job, Ms. Braun!!!! Thank you for an utterly delightful read! :)

Chloe & Simon are childhood best friends & it’s time for their 10th. high school reunion ,where Chloe was relentlessly bullied by 3 cheerleaders. Not sure if she wants to attend,Simon convinces her to go & she becomes obsessed with changing her looks to better herself. However,Unbeknownst to her Simon is secretly in love with her & that’s the reason he’s never made a longtime commitment to any of the women he’s dated. Both have denied their true feelings for each other, afraid of becoming lovers & ruining the friendship that they’ve always had….ultimately, they realize their love for each other was worth the risk ♥️ thank you #BOOKSPROUT for my copy of this book

THANKS AND HAPPY READING!

I enjoyed reading this book. The start was quite slow and initially i didn't feel any connection to the characters, which tends to happen when a story is told in the third person. However a fourh into the story, I started falling in love with them, particularly with Simon.

Chloe tends to be too hung up on her past which could turn a person off, but then again having faced bullying personally, i understood her point of view, and her obsession to be her best, or at least LOOK the part when she sees her former tormentors. The character that stood out though was Simon. The whole book was just basically the two of them...from conversations to intimate moments...just really them! The only other characters i remember are Millicent and the other gorgeous guy.

But Simon...ahhhhh Simon... He is such a sweetie. From the very beginning he was loving and supportive to Chloe, no hang ups except for one, he has abandonment issues which complicated their already comfortable relationship, which of course was electrified with incredible sexual tension.

Simon has always loved Chloe. On the other hand she couldn't identify what she really felt for him until past half the book. But when she did, when things finally clicked for her, I loved how she took charge of her feelings for Simon. He on the other hand.... Well... Went in the other direction.

Mr. Right There All Along was a joy to read, albeit very short (it took me just two hours of relaxed reading to finish the whole book). And honestly i felt the ending was quite abrupt. But then again it gives one leeway to imagine and perhaps hope for a happily ever after for Simon and Chloe.

I liked it was cute romance.
Chole is working part time at a job she likes and the boss keeps telling her the next full time job is hers. Chole in the mail gets her ten yr reunion notice. Three girls made her life miserable in high school just thinking about it drives her crazy. Sh she is eating comfort food and Simon calls and comes over. He got the invitation a week earlier. they have been best friends scince grade school.
Simon was a nerd but not he owns a company thats doing great and he is in great shape. Though his girl just dumped him. Simon dad is getting married for the sixth time. So he doesn't see a lot of people sticking around in his life. So he doesnt want to let Chole know he is attracted to her and loves her because he doesn't want to loose her friendship.
Chole decides she is going to wow at reunion. She starts dieting and goes running with Simon. She gets her teeth whitened so she wont drink red wine, coffee or tea. She tries to get a fake tan but it turns her orange.
Simon keeps telling her she is perfect and it drive him nuts that she is changing for people she doesnt even see. He is glad that she is getting healthier with exersize and eating healthier. He doesn't think she needs to loose weight fix the gap in her teeth. Become any more perfect than what she is right now.
Its fun to see the trouble Chole gets into trying to get ready for reunion and watching them try to hide how much they love each other.
Its a fast read entertaining book. I was given this ebook in exchange for honest review.

‘Mr. Right There All Along’ is not a bad book, but it doesn’t really sit well with me because I love heroine who are strong and confident about themselves. The heroine in this book is nothing about that and she let her insecurities that have been rooted since high school rules her life.

The storyline is also very slow, and I did not appreciate the fact that not much seduction have been done on the hero’s part to get into her good books. I think the hero ought to be more proactive in his endeavor. He is not exactly the typical Harlequin hero.

I rate this book 3 out of 5 stars. I received an ARC of this book from Harlequin publisher via Netgalley. I was not required to give a positive review for this book.

My Thoughts:

Chloe McDaniels and Simon Ford has been friends since teeny school. She was the overweight geek and he was nerd and handy. They fight, get back together but things never evolved to more than friendship.

Now it’s time for the high school reunion and Chloe started to be nervous. She was never popular but worst of all, she is still a bit overweight and the mean girls will definily see that she’s still single and doesn’t have a high job.

But Simon is so good friend that he joins her into a crazy plan for find the perfect date and lose some weight. But wish the would she herself the way he does it and decides to help.

I found this book was more a fun to read than really a romance, some moments Simon tried to help her but he was afraid to lose their friendship over a shot in a romance that may break everything between them, so it took a bit of time for me to truly like the characters. But the romance part could be a little bit faster.

The premise of Mr. Right There All Along was cute - Chloe and Simon, who have been best friends since childhood, get invitations to their high school reunion, sending Chloe into a tizzy. Having been bullied, she wants to go to show how wonderfully she turned - after making herself perfect, of course. Simon, who already thinks she's perfect, wants her to just be herself - the self he's always been in love with.

I wasn't crazy about this book. Chloe was too much of a doormat, and far too invested in taking in the passive aggressive ways in which people like her sister and boss spoke to and/or took advantage of her. While she eventually came into her own, her need to prove herself to her former bullies, and the lengths to which she went in an attempt to do so, were less amusing for me than irritating.

A well-written book, a good premise; I just didn't like the main female character.

Mr. Right there all along is a beautiful love story about a love that grows between two best friends. Simon has been in love with Chloe for years but doesn't want to jeopardize their friendship. Chloe doesn't see herself as she really is and leans on Simon for a lot.

I found that I could relate to Chloe's character. All of us have self image problems and have also experienced bullying of some sort by the "pretty girls" in high school, even if you were one of them. Watching her overcome her insecurities and become a confident woman was an inspiring aspect of the story.

Furthermore, Simon overcomes the geeky stereotype and becomes an attractive, successful businessman. Yet he never looses sight of what is important despite his success.

I really enjoyed this story. It was a quick fun read. Overall I give it a 4/5.

I love stories where longtime friends fall in love. It makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside that your best friend can be your soulmate. This was a cute, fun read - nothing special but entertaining nonetheless.

I was a little annoyed that Chloe wanted to change SO much about herself for her reunion. Sure, you want to show your high school tormentors how great you've become but she seriously took it too far when she worried about the gap in her tooth.

And I was a little frustrated that they went back and forth so much AFTER the romance had started. Okay maybe the first kiss was a fluke, but come on, by the second kiss in his office, how can you back off from that. So they go back and forth another two or three times so the story can drag out a little more.

But like I said, I enjoyed the story. 3 out of 5 on GR is for "liked it" so I think that's what I'm going to give it.

Wow! I absolutely loved this book. Amazing characters and wonderful plot. Very beautifully written and easy to read.

Chloe McDaniels is in panic. Her high school reunion is looming and she just knows because she’s single and working part-time at a dead-end job, that three girls that made her life a living hell in high school will have a field day with her.

She got through school only because of her best friend, Simon Ford. He’s been her rock. Now she wants a makeover and enlists his help, even though the tells her that she doesn’t need any changes.

Ther interactions were very funny and interesting. I loved their chemistry and passion. They were made for each other.

Overall I loved this book very much. If you’re looking for a best friends to lovers, unrequited love romance then you’re going to love it.

MR. Right There All Along is a sweet, fast-paced closed door romance. If you enjoy verbal banter, comedic interludes, and characters with heart and depth, then you will absolutely enjoy this story. Chloe and Simon have been best friends since childhood, and their support for each other has continued into adulthood. Simon has succeeded in business and is comfortable in his own skin. Chloe, not recognizing her own personal strengths as a friend and graphic artist, has allowed her social, personal, and work life to drag her down. Through a series of events, both Chloe and Simone learn to trust their instincts and reach for what really matters in life. Be sure to put this on your TBR list and move it to the top. I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a fast-paced, closed door novel. This is a 5* for me, and I'm sure it will be for you as well!

fun read

Chloe and Simon had been friends throughout their school years, college and while starting their careers. Although they’ve never been romantically involved, Chloe is secretly relieved whenever Simon and his girlfriend of the moment breakup. Simon is supportive of Chloe but happy when she and her “loser boyfriends” part ways. Hmmm. As their HS 10th reunion draws near, Simon and Chloe both start making changes and thinking about each other differently, but where will it lead? Find out when you read this fun, relaxing and humorous 5 ⭐️ book by Jackie Braun
