You’d think defeating a giant four-armed, catgirl supersoldier would buy you some peace.
More like pieces.
Sure, I get to spend time with Rufka, but it turns out stopping Ivicka isn’t enough to get home. As we continue our quest to find a way to Earth, it’s time to get efficient.
Or so I’m told.
Course Beth likes convoluted plans like I enjoy cuddles with Rufka and Smoulder, so it’s not a surprise she’s trying to rope me into taking more responsibility. Still, despite everything, I’m determined to enjoy the journey. Sab would be disappointed if I didn’t get some proper adventuring in before returning to Earth.
And adventure is exactly what waits on The Western Shores.
My personal opinion, romance ruins most novels outside its dedicated genre. I hate how it changes strong individuals most times into dependent minded folks. The worst part is reading annoying things like the constant cuddling and degrading things like thinking about breasts when the world is crashing around you. The MC becoming lovey dovey was disappointing. My other issue is lazy writing. How is it that one of the most powerful Arch mages on the planet is always constantly being captured or killed? It makes zero sense and is a lazy way to keep her from helping the cast. It’s still an interesting story but it’s definitely lost appeal. Magic and exploring it is no longer a main theme.
Looking forward to the next book. In some ways this book felt more light-hearted than the books before. I liked the mild humor that the author was able to keep going throughout most of the story; Except for the parts where things needed to be serious. It's not like it made me laugh, but it did make me smile at the start of every chapter the way it usually started after the timestamp. The beginning of the chapter would have the date and time and then describe what's happening currently with something rather silly. For example, something like: 8:33am local time. 3 seconds after coming face to face with big and ugly.
It's rare to find stories where the characters progress not just in powers and abilities, but as people finding themselves in situations they never expected.
Mix well with some laugh out loud moments, and an absolutely adorable romantic relationship that makes my queer heart go "Squeeee!", and you have a great book.
As someone who took a break between the previous book and this book, it was pretty rough trying to get a feeling for what was going on again. I really with there was a character glossary or a recap.
It's a good story as we're the previous ones, I'm curious on how things are going to work out going forwards as I think the author just keeps adding more and more obstacles.
