Understanding how people learn and fail to learn second and foreign languages is increasingly recognised as a critical social and psycholinguistic issue. Second languages are vitally important to diverse groups of people, ranging from refugees to college students facing foreign language requirements. Diane Larsen-Freeman is a Professor of Education, Professor of Linguistics, and a Research Scientist at the English Language Institute of Michigan. She is also a Distinguished Senior Faculty Fellow at the School for International Training in Brattleboro, Vermont, USA. A teacher educator for over 30 years, Professor Larsen-Freeman has published numerous books and articles about second language acquisition research, English grammar, and language teaching methods.
