What happens when the world’s deadliest operative is activated with no target to take out?
Tina Harrington was a member of the black ops team known as C.O.R.P.S.E. - until she was killed.
But her death triggered a secret program, activating an android that was trained to kill, yet is now confused about its mission.
To survive, the android must learn how to blend in with society, acquire resources, and avoid detection - all while trying to uncover the truth about Tina's death.
But with enemies on all sides, can the android make the right choices without losing its sanity?
As the android's journey unfolds, it must confront its identity and decide whether to seek revenge or redemption.
In a world where black ops secrets rule, will the android become a protector or a weapon?
Out In The Cold C.O.R.P.S.E. Book 1 By Michael Anderle This really snagged my interest right away and kept it til the end. A great action-packed sci-fi with an android that looks like a human and develops feelings along the way. She takes up with a stray dog, which becomes part of the team she ends up living with. She is really a badda$$, and I loved every minute!
4.5 Stars. Michael hit this one out of the park!! Maris is awesome!
I am so glad that Michael made a heroine that actually displays strength without having to be saved all the time!! Maris comes awake in a lab and right then the action starts, even in her first few waking hours she learns that the world is not a nice place, but once she process what's happening to her, she fights back. She meets some others along the way, Kenny and Spyder, who will become instrumental to her fight, but most of all she meets HERO her dog and boy is he ever vicious when in fighting mode. But a little bit of kindness that Maris showed to him is repayed in spades. The world building is not the greatest for the book, but hopefully that will improve in future books. Maris learns she is a simile (android) of an assassin and her mission is to take out those who betrayed Tina, but along the way, a bigger mission is discovered. With her ragtag group of followers, it's going to see how the story goes.
P.S. please don't change Maris into some simpering fool who needs saving in future books!!
This is the start of a fast, fun, smart new series. The protagonist is someone I want to succeed. The is plotting is doable and leaves a lot of wiggle room for our primaries. The secondary characters are fun as hell and the world that’s been created is pretty well rounded and ready to move in many directions. The action scenes are well written and easy to follow. The future looks interesting. This is a good start to what could become a real rock solid series. Fingers crossed.
Anything this author has either written or collaborated with has been golden, and this series beginner was no exception. The plot is easily followed and accurately straightforward. The characters human or otherwise are fascinating from the beginning of the story, especially Maris, Tina's cyborg replacement. The premise of the story is the directive Maris received soon after her activation, " find out who had a hand in killing Tina and bringing them to justice. Barring that ending the perpetrators". No innocent should ever be harmed in doing so. I absolutely highly recommend this book!
I genuinely liked the premise. The concept had the potential for a fun, fast-paced sci-fi adventure, but unfortunately, that's where my praise ends.
The writing felt immature and sloppy, as if it had been rushed through a first draft and never properly edited. The dialogue was often stilted, the narration clunky, and the pacing inconsistent. What really wore me down, though, was the over explaining, especially when it came to Mark XI's internal database processes. Every single time the android interfaced, we were treated to a tedious breakdown of its inner workings.
Ultimately, the book’s execution didn’t do its concept justice. It lacked polish, nuance, and restraint. I wanted to enjoy this, but I just couldn’t get past the writing.
I really wasn't sure about this one...was a freebie and by a fave author and wanted to give it a chance. it is a bit different to many of MAs that I've read before...and took some getting into. But was worth it and i it looks like it will be another cracker. Interesting characters and this first book promises much more! One I will be continuing!!
Mark6 wakes up with no idea where or what she is, but knows that she has tasks she needs to complete. I could not put this book down, the characters are fantastic, there is tons of action and I thoroughly enjoyed the storyline. I am really looking forward to more in the series.
I have only just caught up to this series, and it has a great big bang of an opening story. A new twist on the amnesia trope. Like many of Michael Anderle's stories, the twist has come at you from a totally unexpected direction. Now, I am glad that I have got all the stories so that I don't have to wait for the next one. Binge read here I come!
I really got into this book from the first page. It kept me engaged all the way through and wanting book 2 right now. I loved the way Mark6 adjusted to life and the people she picked up on the way. Enjoy
Michael Anderle has created another great new series. Lots of action and super characters. The story keeps you engaged and the fight scenes are the best. I've read 100s of Michaels books. Loved them all. Michael is the King of authors.
The book is over the top, action-packed. But it is still a fun read. Maris’s development was well done. The secondary characters have some depth that I suspect will be further developed in later books. And the dog is great! (Don’t worry. The dog lives!)
Michael Anderle has done it again. This book grabbed me from the beginning and was hard to put down. I actually got an extra hour to finish it because of the time change. Looking forward to the next book.
An enjoyable and intriguing first book in this series of which I definitely read more. The action is fast moving and Maris is a character whose development will be interesting to track through the series.
Usually I like more modern fantasy but this futuristic book is great. At first I did not think I would like it but by the end I really enjoyed this book.
Wow, this is great book that was written really well with such an interesting plot that keeps y0ou intrigue in it from the start to theending.I highly rewcommend this to those liking this type.
