Priscilla is another hit in the Apron Strings series and is written by Jenny Knipfer! Set in the 1940s after World War II, Priscilla: Apron Strings Book 3 tells the story of Priscilla, and her family and the tribe of friends they have around them. Priscilla dreams of being a wife and mother, but lacks in cooking skills feeling that no man would want her as a wife. Reeling after World War II from losing two of her brothers and from losing her mother at a young age, Priscilla and her twin brother, Jeremy, are doing their best to help their Father run their Family Farm, with the help of their best friends Aaron and Dorothy. Aaron a police officer, is trying to solve local criminal activities that are happening in town, while helping at Priscilla and Jeremy’s farm when he’s able and secretly holding a candle for Priscilla (despite Priscilla having a potential beau). Between Priscilla’s dream and working the Farm, she decides to take a cooking class where a family friend gives Priscilla the famous Mrs. Canfield’s Cookery Book. Mrs. Canfield’s Cookery Book opens up a world of possibilities than just excellent cooking for both Priscilla and Jeremy futures.
I love the personality that Jenny Knipfer gives Priscilla! I love how Priscilla brought out more about the history of Mrs. Canfield’s Cookery Book and it’s previous owners. I also love that Priscilla wasn’t afraid to question primarily social norms for women and men of the day. I also love that a majority of the characters had quirks, but at the same time accepted each other for who they are (regardless of cooking ability). I appreciate that Priscilla had struggles with her Faith. I am thankful that Priscilla still had questions and concerns about her Faith even at the end of the book. I believe it made Priscilla more relatable to me as a reader. I love the character of Aaron and believe that his part of the story added a spritz of suspense to Priscilla. The romantic triangle of Priscilla and Aaron/Priscilla and Josiah had me rooting for Aaron, even though Josiah is awesome too. I love how, to me, the underlying theme of Priscilla is, that, despite times of grappling with one’s Faith, God still loves us unconditionally and we can hold on to His Promises. If you are looking for an encouraging, fun, and uplifting read then I highly recommend Priscilla: Apron Strings Book 3 by Jenny Knipfer! I’m looking forward to reading the next Apron Strings book and reading more from Jenny Knipfer!
My review is also on Amazon and my blog Leslie's Library Escape.
Twin siblings and their Dad, all that is left after two brothers die in the war and the mother has also passed on. When Dad starts getting sicker and sicker, the twins are left to determine what will become of the farm, as they know they cannot run it by themselves! Priscilla has been told, over and over, that her cooking basically is terrible, and it breaks her hurt and then makes her mad. So, she decides to enroll in a cooking class. The teacher of the class was a best friend of their mother’s, and she gives Priscilla one hundred dollars to help with the final payment on the family’s farm-she just knows they need the money, but doesn’t know that the bank is threatening foreclosure. Or, since it is such a small community, maybe she does know. Then, this same teacher and family friend, gives Priscilla a cookbook of her very own! She is so excited to have this book, and believes if she can learn to cook a little bit better, then she can find a husband and have a family of her own. Remember, this book is set in 1946! While Priscilla is away, her twin brother starts making recipes from the cookbook and his dishes are delicious, unlike Priscilla’s. He remembers dishes their mother made, too, while Priscilla cannot remember them. While their Dad is sick, and Jeremy is cooking a lot, the pressure mounts on the Dad, for worrying about the farm-who is taking care of everything?? So, the kids round up a couple of friends and they get the hay put up right before it starts in raining, a lot! They were so relieved, and Priscilla and Aaron, Jeremy’s best friend, have a special moment between them, while putting up the hay. Is this love she is feeling for Aaron? And Jeremy wants to see about the town diner that is for sale! What can they do? It’s such a well written book with wonderful characters, some unseen adventure, and a touch of drama, but I can’t tell you anymore or I will ruin the story for you. Please get this book for your own and find out what all happens and how the book ends. You may also decide to purchase the companion books in this Apron Strings Series that goes through the decades from the 1920’s to the 1970’s! You will be so glad you did! I was provided a copy of this book so that I could write a review with my honest opinion. ♥️♥️♥️
Priscilla, by Jenny Knifper, is the third book in the Apron Strings series. This is a series of stand alone stories that is written by different authors. This story is so well written it is easy to imagine. It is easy to read with wonderful characters. The story takes place in 1946, just after WWII. After the death of her mother, Priscilla is responsible for cooking for her father and brother. Not being gifted with the talent, she takes a cooking class and is given a cook book by her mother’s friend. What she does not expect to happen is her twin brother, Jeremy has been gifted with the talent and excels with cooking.
I just love this family focused inspirational story. It’s enjoyable to see how close the siblings are and how their best friends fit into the family. The siblings’ actions to save the family farm are very admirable, as they put their trust in God and refuse to give up. Instead Jeremy makes a plan that will help the family, especially his very sick father. I like how this story focuses on the Hadley family and how they all work together. I also enjoy the mystery and suspense with the case the law enforcement is working on.
I voluntarily received a complimentary copy of this book from the author, this is my honest review.
Jenny Knipfer has done it again. I truly enjoy reading her stories. She brings characters that you can relate to. She crafts a story of family, love, dreams, faith and God's everlasting love.
Set in the 1940's, Priscilla is a young lady that dreams of one day having a family of her own. But with one thing holding her back she feels that might not happen. Until she is gifted a special cookbook that will be her gift to her dream.
With a mystery involved in the story that brings it a sparkle along with a family bond that is stronger that anything. With struggles of the family farm, their father's health, we see how these characters unite and the lessons learned are amazing, and not only the cooking. But is a fun characters and story of friendships too. Through struggles and a bond that surpasses them to make everything seem good, is the beauty of this story combined with God's love that strengthen us along the way.
Author Jenny incorporates a beautifully story that reminds us that in the middles of struggles and heartache God is always present.
I received an e-arc copy from author/publisher for my honest thoughts. Was not requested a positive comment. All stated here are my own.
When things seem impossible, put your trust in God. Priscilla, her twin brother Jeremy and their father all live on the farm. So many memories have been make, but also sad times. With their father’s failing health and the payment due on the farm, they just don’t know if they can hold on to the farm. They all have different dreams, and some of those dreams have nothing to do with farming, but they also know that it would take a miracle for everyone’s Dream to come true. Priscilla wants a husband and family, but goodness knows, she can’t cook, and what man would want to marry a woman that can’t cook? A very good friend is totally inspired to help and gifts her a cookbook, but the cookbook is so much more, not only to Priscilla but the entire family. Jeremy loves to cook, but is the muscles on the farm. Pops can’t help but want to hold on to the farm, and the many memories. This is such an awesome book of love, dreams, faith, and turning it over to the man upstairs!
Jenny Knipfer has a natural style of writing and an excellent use of dialogue that draws readers straight into the story. Priscilla couldn't cook and was pleased to be given a cookbook. However, this book only partly helped Priscilla with her cooking skills as it became a huge blessing to the whole family. Love of family and friends, Priscilla's strengthening faith and the developing romance between Priscilla and Aaron all combine to make this book an very enjoyable one to read.
A story of the ever present faithfulness of God, the saga of the life of Priscilla tugged every heart string, touched a whole spectrum of emotions and reminded me that no matter what, His plan doesn’t change nor does His love. This author’s writings continue to inspire, evoking a sense of the very soul of the reader being moved toward the heart of our Father time and again with the assurance of being forgiven and cherished. I happily endorse this author, this book!
Priscilla's mother died twelve years ago and she still misses her terribly. She dreamed of being as good a housewife as her mother, but when the man she likes says she can't cook to save her life, she is devastated. Her commitment to learning cooking and baking led her to attend cooking classes at church, where she received a unique cookbook that changed her life.
I really liked Pricilla's personality and her determination to learn cooking. Her twin brother was another interesting character. However, he could cook anything. The food he prepared smelled like their mother's food and everything tasted delicious. The bond between the siblings was touching and uplifting.
I love books about cooking, baking and recipes. They bring warmth and coziness. The atmosphere, even though the family was going through difficulties, was homely. The plot drew me in, and the likable characters made this book even more special.
I really liked this story and how a simple cooking class could influence so ,much with the gift of a cookbook. Priscilla and Jeremy, her twin brother, really enjoy using the cookbook as well as reading all the different bits of wisdom mixed in with the recipes. I enjoyed the little bit of mystery to the story along with a few surprises mixed in that really added to the story. Overall an enjoyable read.
This book is truly exceptional! I read dozens of books each year, but this one impacted me in a way I wasn’t really expecting. Yes, there’s romance and a wonderful story, but the growth in Priscilla’s character moved me.
Pros: exciting, faith filled, romance, excellent character development, unique and heartfelt moments between characters
After reading this book, I am now a fan of Jenny Knipfer.
It is so refreshing to read an entertaining story that is clean. I so enjoyed not being concerned about what was on the next page. God has given much talent to the author; she is able to weave a story full of surprises and one that puts God at the forefront without coming off as “preachy” yet presents the Gospel in a clear, compelling measure. I look forward to reading many other of her books! Thank you, Jenny!
Pricilla is a story set in the 1940s that really seems to center around the theme of trusting God in all things. It’s also a story about the love of family and friends--and there’s definitely some romance as well. I was rooting for the characters, and I enjoyed the historical aspects of this book. I highly recommend it!
Book 3 in this series now has me wondering where the cookbook that ties it together will pop up next. I look forward to trying recipes from it. This was a beautiful story of family and faith. This is a moving story with a lot of struggles, some suspense, and romance. I enjoyed it.
Many might not be able to relate to growing up on a farm. In the story of Priscilla we experience the struggle of a farming family. A lot hasn’t changed since farming in the 1940’s, families still work together as they struggle against odds. Jenny has done a lovely job of presenting Priscilla in a real and believable way.
The third story of the Apron String Series is another delightful story. The tale revolves around Priscilla and Jeremy, twins, and their best friends, Dorothy and Aaron. Priscilla wants to learn how to cook and is gifted the Mrs. Canfield cookbook by a family friend. It is a lovely, sweet and a very happily ever after. It left me smiling.
Priscilla, Book 3 in the Apron Strings series is a wonderful inspirational story of life during the tough years after World War II. This book covers all the emotions is a young lady finding her way thru family issues, friends, hardship and love. Great story.
A very well written pure romance with a little mystery thrown in! Lovely! If you are a fan of Amish reads or cozy mysteries, then this is for you! The characters are not Amish, but it reads the same - lifestyle, family , farm home and cooking.
This is the third book in the Apron Strings series which is a wonderful series that focuses on the lives of women during different decades and a cookbook that loosely ties them all together. Priscilla takes place right after WW2 and focuses on Priscilla and her twin brother and their father. I felt like the theme was one of trusting God even when things don't look like you thought they would and even having some doubts. I enjoyed this book as I have the first two in the series.
A series of books spanning the years, this one is set post WW2. Priscilla, like many of her peers, dreamed of being a wife and homemaker. She had a problem. She couldn't cook. Follow her struggles, those who help her, her family, and the adventures ahead weaving a story of faith and courage.
