This book opens with Weston Campbell having a meeting with his cousins Rocky and Ethan Watson. They are more or less admonishing him to behave himself. Weston has made many mistakes in his life so far, and he has paid for them. His cousins let him know that the only reason he's getting a chance with Fallport Search and Rescue is because he's family. Apparently, they are still judging him by the mistakes of his youth and of course his dishonorable discharge. He will be working for Zeke at On the Rocks, filling in where necessary unless he's training or on a mission.
The first person he meets is Haven, she's a waitress at the bar and goes over the basics for the dishwashing portion of his new job at the bar. Zeke also warns him away from her. Haven says he's like an overprotective big brother.
Haven and Weston convince Zeke they can close up when he has to leave for a bit close to closing time. It's then that we get a look at a threat to Haven.
Keeping Haven safe is forefront in everyone's mind and Weston really is the logical choice to watch over her. Haven needs to open up about what happened with Bradly and it's Weston she finally confides in.
Turns out everything is far more complicated that it appears on the outside. Plus, many things intertwine with other issues.
Neither one of them expect the chemistry between them to go anywhere but that pretty much goes from simmer to sizzle rather quickly.
I really enjoyed this addition to the Fallport Search and Rescue series. I hope there will be more.
Former Army Ranger Weston Campbell is striving to get his life back on track and make amends with his family while he waits for word on his discharge. His last mission went sideways, lives were lost, but he still believes that they received incorrect intel. Returning to Fallport, he hopes to make things right with his parents and cousins. Working at On the Rocks, a local bar, he meets Haven Taylor who has also returned home. College was in her plans, but when her life imploded, she returned home. When Weston realizes that she needs protection from the man who she thought loved her, he is all in. Bradly is still threatening her and he won’t give up until she gives him what he wants. She knows that if she does, he will kill her. Between Weston, his cousins and Zeke who owns the bar, they plan to end the threats against her and put Bradly out of business and in jail. Is there a chance for happiness and love for these two wounded souls? Suspenseful and emotional story of second chances. I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation for an honest review. (paytonpuppy)
A former Ranger Weston Campbell has a bad reputation, some deserved some not, but the problem is his family judged him without knowing the complete story and wouldn’t give him the opportunity to give his side. The latest was a dishonorable discharge from his military service which is in the works to get it reversed. He has two cousins that are offering him the job of a protection detail. He is also working for Zeke at a bar where Haven Taylor works. She is the one he is to protect from her former boyfriend who turns out to everything bad turned her into a victim. She got away but with a little black book that he wants back. She knows if she hands it over, she is dead. She only has these men as her friends because her family has disowned her. Will these guys of Fallport Rescue Operations and Weston be able to protect her from all the evil that is coming at her as well as deal with his own problems? Making matters worse one of the names in the book is linked to him.
Weston is a ranger who is dishonorably discharged from the army. He is working with an agent to get new hearing to prove he should have an honorable discharge. He has been accused of many things in his past, some true, some not. When he is offered a chance to work with his cousins at search and rescue he is hoping to start mending fences with his family. When not doing rescues, he is assigned to help out at On The Rocks bar, but quickly finds out he is actually being tasked with keeping Haven safe. He is instructed in no uncertain terms to keep his hands off Haven. Haven has a past that she feels extreme guilt over, and feels she can’t have a normal life because of her bad decisions. Unfortunately, because of her past she is in extreme danger, and Weston and the rescue team will do everything they can to keep her safe and to put an end to it once and for all. Fast paced. Loved how Weston and Haven help the other one to realize they are good people.
This story belongs to former Army Ranger Weston Campbell and Haven Taylor, a survivor. Two souls whose past and present are filled with pain, and adversity. Neither thinking they are entitled to redemption. Haven has barely been able to survive the abuse experienced by Bradley and as usual happens , getting away from an abuser is harder than expected. Though advised not to get involved with Haven, Weston is determined to keep her safe. Will he be able to complete that mission or will he not be able to overcome the evil surrounding Haven? Will they be able to survive the danger , and the emotional rollercoaster they are on? This was another engaging, and thought provoking story. A reminder that domestic abuse is very real. I was entrusted a copy of this book. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
This is a fast paced read that has a ton of suspense and drama and links to the Team Raptor Books in the Brotherhood world.
This is Weston Campbell's story he has a dishonourable discharge against his name which he is hoping to have overturned but also a reputation for being a womaniser and general bad guy but is all that it seems or was he tarred and feathered without anyone listening to his side of the story. As his cousins warn him away from their latest charge Haven Taylor a woman trying to escape her past and reboot her life he finds someone to fight for in Haven . As things come to a head with her ex and the truth of Weston's past comes out his cousins will have to rethink their opinion of him and face the fact that they where judgemental. They also find that there is a common link with their own past and his.
Searching for Haven focuses on family dynamics, youthful mistakes that haunt you, atonement, forgiveness and moving forward. Both Haven and Weston have made some monumental mistakes, some recent, some ancient history. Being harshly judgde by their families is taking a toll and keeping them from moving forward. Haven's mistake is now stalking her and conceivably could harm her. Weston maybe the newest member of the Search and Rescue team but his current mission is protecting Haven from whatever is coming. With each other's revelations of their pasts, these two find common ground, empathy and understanding. That leads to more despite warnings from others to keep it professional. Resolution happens on several fronts that dovetail together giving Haven and Wston the chance to move on and open new chapters in their lives. Lives that they will live together.
Searching for Haven is book 2 in the Fallport Rescue Operations series by Jen Talty and part of Special Forces Operation Alpha world by Susan Stoker.
Weston Campbell, disgraced former Army Ranger returns home to try and mend his past and move forward with his life only to be thrown into a protection detail with little known facts…
Haven Taylor has secrets but with the help of Weston’s cousins they have been able to keep her somewhat safe until the threats get extensive and Weston is asked to her protect her…what neither expected was a growing attraction and so much more…suspense, fear, not letting go of the past, family dynamics, and redemption from disgrace.
I voluntarily read an advanced reader copy (ARC) of this book from the author. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
The slow burn of the romance between Haven and Weston was almost enough to distract me from the frenetic suspense of everything her ex was doing. I loved these two, and I loved that their story tied back to the author’s entry in the Team Raptor miniseries. I really liked the messages in this book about survival; both physical and emotional. Also, how leaping to judgement before the whole story’s been heard is a surefire way to make mistakes. I adored the ending Haven and Weston fought so hard to achieve and I can’t wait to see what the author brings us next. I received a complimentary advance copy of this book from the author.
We all make mistakes at one time or another but the mistakes Weston and Haven made had a huge impact on their lives. Former Ranger Weston Campbell’s past came back to haunt him when a mission went south and he received a dishonorable discharge. Haven’s when the small town girl found a cushy job to help fund her college expenses. That is until her company was bought out by a ruthless man who would stop at nothing to keep her by his side working for him. Now Weston is sticking close to Haven to keep her protected while working on an appeal to his discharge. But with the help of family and a few good friends, anything could happen. I received an arc from the author. The review is my own.
Weston has made many mistakes in his life but he is hoping to making amends being back in Fallport. Haven had fallen into the hands of an abuser and is trying to move on with her life. Bradley, who was her abuser, is still coming back for her and what she took. Ethan and Rocky are Weston"s cousins. They have warned him to stay away from Haven romantically but to protect her. Too bad neither one of them listened. Bradley has finally gotten her where he wants her by threatening Weston. Will Ethan and the guys get there in time?
Weston, after a dishonorable, has been given a second chance to redeem himself. He is asked to help guard Haven a waitress. He can not afford to mess this up. He wants to prove he is not the black sheep of the family. But guarding Haven and guarding his heart might be harder than he thought. Although Haven is attracted to Weston, she no longer trusts herself she also has a secret that may make him turn away and look at her different. But when danger threatens her nothing she's hiding will keep Weson from keeping her safe or making her his.
Weston and Haven are both suffering from things that have happened in the past that have isolated them from not only others but from family as well. As Haven's life is increasingly in danger, it is up to Weston to keep her safe. Together they work to save their lives and hopefully heal past hurts to allow them to go forward. Great story and characters. I received an ARC and I am voluntarily reviewing it. I'm also going to get the rest of the series to find out what happens to the others characters in the book
Weston is trying to get his life together after being given a dishonorable discharge. When his cousins offer him, a job working with them in rescue he takes it. When not doing that, he works at the On the Rocks bar where he meets Haven. Both have pasts that people, and family just won't let go of. This is a fasted paced read with fear, anger, trying to overcome your past, forgiveness and finding out your worth falling in love with.
Small-town romance between two individuals with questionable pasts. Weston is working to clear up his past, and Haven is trying to move on from her past. When trouble comes, Weston will do anything to protect the woman he never thought he'd find. A romantic suspense with a happy ending. I received a copy, and I'm voluntarily giving my honest review.
This was much better. The characters are still lacking dimension, but they are sweet and the story has the H and h connecting really quickly which I enjoy. This author doesn't invest time in estrangement over stupid crap and misunderstandings. Many of the errors that swamped the first book are missing here so that's a big plus too!
An enjoyable read and addition to the series. Haven and Weston had a hard uphill battle against long standing prejudices and harsh judgements. Against the odds and amid the drama and danger, they had each other’s backs and their romance was a long slow sweet burn as they found their HEA.
Weston and Haven. Both have troubled pasts and family misconceptions. Their romance and relationship builds slowly as they both work on trust and fixing their problems. The danger is focused on Haven, but ends up including Weston’s problem and later health. The ending is sweet and it is a definite HEA. A quick and easy read!
Wow talk about shitty past these two have it in spades. But Weston and Haven’s story sure gives you the feels. Up’s and down’s, fear and love. Friendship. But also about gossip and hear say. These two beat it all and the result is an amazing Story with surprise characters.
Two people caught up in situations they had no control over. Weston and a mission he had been on and a bad relationship Haven got mixed up in while in college. There's some danger towards the end. HEA.
This romance filled me with so many emotions that I am having trouble processing it. Anger, fear, distrust that could have led to hate but when the truth does eventually come out will Weston and Haven gain a love like no other and have their families back or lose it all in the blink of an eye.
Weston was invited to join their rescue operations by his cousins. They know about his past and are willing to give him a try. His first assignment is to protect Haven. Haven came back to her hometown where she was met with adversity. Will they be able to overcome their hardships of proving that they are worthy of love and family? Will they be able to fall in love and make it work? I recommend this book.
Talty has a habit of writing HEAs that come out of the worst situations and this is no exception. Haven and Weston definitely have traumatic pasts, but together they are able to move past it and into their well-deserved HEA.
I'm voluntarily leaving a review after receiving a free copy. It is an intense novel as Weston and Haven try to put their pasts to rest. I like how they find love with each other and both get to have their dreams. The bad guys from their pasts finally get their punishments.
This story has 2 people who are trying to start a new life. If you like second chances, New beginnings and stories full of emotion then you will love this story. Can't wait to read more. I was given an advanced reader copy and I voluntarily leave this review.
Western had come by to his hometown after getting dishorable diScharge. He had a bad reputation and hadn't talked to his parents in years. His cousins got him a job in the bar where he met Haven. Great story.
Searching for Haven: WOW! Very intense story! Haven went through some serious stuff in her young life! Then Weston came back into town after a rough end to his military career! It was a fantastic story!
This book has drama and plenty of romance! What an intriguing story. The characters are captivating and have plenty of spark. The story is well written and heartwarming. I really enjoyed reading.
