#1 New York Times bestselling author Susan Mallery writes heartwarming and humorous novels about the relationships that define women's lives—family, friendship, romance. She's best known for putting nuanced characters into emotionally complex, real-life situations with twists that surprise readers to laughter. Because Susan is passionate about animal welfare, pets play a big role in her books. Beloved by millions of readers worldwide, her books have been translated into 28 languages.

Critics have dubbed Mallery "the new queen of romantic fiction." (Walmart) Booklist says, "Romance novels don't get much better than Mallery's expert blend of emotional nuance, humor, and superb storytelling," and RT Book Reviews puts her "in a class by herself!" It's no wonder that her books have spent more than 200 weeks on the USA Today bestsellers list.

Although Susan majored in Accounting, she never worked as an accountant because she was published straight out of college with two books the same month. Sixteen prolific years and seventy-four books later, she hit the New York Times bestsellers list for the first time with Accidentally Yours in 2008. She made many appearances in the Top 10 before (finally) hitting #1 in 2015 with Thrill Me, the twentieth book in her most popular series, the Fool's Gold romances, and the fourth of five books released that year.

Susan lives in Washington state with her husband, two ragdoll cats, and a small poodle with delusions of grandeur. Her heart for animals has led Susan to become an active supporter of the Seattle Humane Society. Visit Susan online at www.SusanMallery.com.

The premise of this book was a little far-fetched, in my opinion. I did not recognize anyone's behavior, so I read this book mostly with a dropped jaw while my mind was muttering, "Really?" The major plus is that it gives you a good feel for what it's like for a man, who always has to be the one asking, arranging, dealing with his reputation, and trying to set up dates and meet someone he might eventually fall in love with and marry. Somehow I never thought about it from the man's side.

Dana Rowan had dated Trevor MacAllister briefly while in high school. Then her heart was broken because she thought he bragged about their liaison. Now, Dana is an RN at a hospital. Trevor has just joined the staff as a surgeon. The rumor mill goes into overdrive about Trevor’s love life. Can Dana see past all the gossip to the real Trevor?

An oldy but a goody. I love Trevor and Dana’s second chance romance. It’s an old school romance (with shifts mid-paragraph between character perspectives), and the miscommunication and misunderstandings are pretty bad/juvenile, but it’s one of the first second chance romances I ever read. It has a special place in my heart from all the re-reads over the years.

I thought the main character Dana bemoaned the rumor mill too much and I wasn't disappointed when Trevor broke up with her. The continued plot line focused on gossip about Trevor became boring and disinteresting.

This is one of Susan Mallery’s earlier works and it shows. The storyline is simpler, the writing isn’t as sophisticated. Still, she was able to tug on every single one of my heartstrings. It was fun to read some of her older work, but I’m glad this wasn’t my introduction to her.

Multiple “big misunderstandings,” one in the past and one in the present, after some shilly-shallying—all by a supposedly successful woman with an important and sometimes demanding job.

I enjoy almost everything Susan Mallery writes, and this book is no exception. The heroine in this book, Dana Rowan, can be a pain sometimes with both her stubborn refusal to believe that the hero, Trevor MacAllister, is genuinely interested in her and how quick she is to judge him in the negative when she hears rumors swirl about his dating life (which, in fact, is non-existent).

The rumors take on a life of their own, and they get WAY out of hand, both in the book and in distracting away from the romance plot. That said, Trevor is the book's saving grace. He is a tall, dark and handsome doctor with a playboy reputation...that is completely unwarranted. He just returned to his hometown to work at the hospital where Dana is a nurse. After many exchanges rife with sexual tension, plus a week at a management training seminar together where things get er...out of hand one night, he finally gets through to Dana that he wants to date her. He's trying to take it slow with Dana, who was his high school sweetheart before a huge misunderstanding splits them up, because he wants her to see him as a man and not as his reputation, and the tenderness and vulnerability he displays make me want to gobble him up.

Overall, I'd give this book 3.5 stars, rounded up to 4. I was halfway in love with Trevor myself and ready to kick the heroine sometimes for her too-quick-to-judge moments and the times she believed all of the rumors, despite Trevor's insistence they were painting him far blacker than reality. However, like I said, the romance in the end is sweet, and let's just say they imbue an egg (an exercise that is part of the management training seminar) with plenty of personality and humor.

A fun read with lots of misconceptions to clear up

3 friends who are determined not to fall in love with doctors. This story is about a girl who felt betrayed by her first. She meets him again when he begins work at the hospital where she schedules the surgeries, including his. She's afraid to trust him and he is afraid she can't be serious about him. This romance has the usual twist and turns but both the main characters are so likable, and their situations so plausible that the book is a delight to read.

I usually enjoy Susan Mallery's writing - her turn of phrase, the dialogue, the character development. But this one was a bit lacklustre and failed to get me emotionally invested in the story.

Overall: Okay, but not one of the author's best.
