This isn’t her idea of home, but she’s quickly becoming mine.
I’m Never Harbor’s neighborhood best friend. Along with being the middle child in a loud family of seven, I’m accustomed to being everything to everyone. But after moving into my new townhouse by the sea, my world has suddenly grown too quiet.
But then she moves back to town.
Marina Starkey is my landlord’s daughter with nowhere to go. She needs a place to stay for the summer, and thankfully I’m just the kind of guy to offer.
Hello there, new roommate.
She’s gorgeous and cheeky with a stubbornness that matches my own. (Don’t get me started on the shared bed situation.) Summer days pass in soft touches and afternoon swims, and my heart sinks deeper with every stroke.
I’m not a temporary fling kind of guy, and Marina has no intention of staying past the summer.
She doesn’t want to fall in love with her hometown, and I’m basically Mr. Never Harbor himself.
But my home is quickly becoming wherever I’m with her.

Is it cringey if I say this book was otter-ly adorable?? Sorry. I had to. 🤷🏻♀️ If you know, you know. The entire Davies family and Never Harbor captivated me in Off the Hook, and if you have not immersed yourself in this Peter Pan-esque fictional world then you’re missing out.
This book just gave me a warm and fuzzy feeling all over. It was sunshine in page format. There was enough seriousness and real life problems to keep it relatable though. I loved the character growth for both Cassidy and Marina, and how they championed for each other and how by the end they were the best versions of their already awesome selves.
Let’s just give a shout-out to the amazing Davies brothers, and Bonnie. They are protective and supportive. Encourage Cassidy. Make sure Lulu is taken care of. Don’t overstep when it comes to sister Bonnie and her potential love life (oh I’m looking at you Rafe!).
*Fave moment- at the train station with Marina’s dad Charles. Him showing up with his suitcase made me tear up. 😭
Thank you to Pen Pal PR and Julie Olivia for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
It was sorta cute but there were too many cringe moments for me to fully enjoy it.
It was impossible to not like Cassidy, he dedicated his life to being liked, he even had a little notebook to jot down things people like, (which may seem a little serial-killery, but it's not that kind of book). So yes, I admit, he had a lot of book boyfriend qualities and the romance was sweet, but he was also a terrible pushover and I just wished he grew a backbone because argh!!!
I liked the way he treated Marina and the way their romance progressed from an easy friendship to something more. The small town provided a great background for the story and it was all very cozy.
What surprised me was the whole bed sharing thing, because that's not what people do. Normal people get a cheap couch from ikea or an air mattress. You don't share a bed with a roommate! I like the only-one-bed trope but this was definitely an overkill.
Another thing that bothered me was the unprotected sex (and in the ocean of all places - yikes, that must have been uncomfortable!). Don't try this at home, kids!
our with the tide is book 2 of the never harbor series (a peter inspired) small town romance series! this one follows cassidy & marina as they navigate being reluctant roommates.
cassidy was sooooo sweet. he literally has notebooks for people around town with things they love so he remembers if they need a little pick me up. marina is back in town after moving away from work and trying to figure out her next step (and where she needs to live). cassidy asks her to move in and what follows is a delicious slow burn with SO MUCH PINING.
I love small town romances especially when the author can create these towns with big found family vibes, and julie nails it every single time. there’s shenanigans, banter, and fun and I had such a fun time reading this.
what held this back for me was the lack of character development. I feel like the characters didn’t really grow or change at all. the pacing was pretty flat in that I didn’t feel like there were any big moments and it felt pretty low stakes the whole time.
thank you sm julie and penpal pr for an arc!
tropes & things ✨ small town romance ✨ roommates/forced proximity ✨ golden retriever mmc ✨ sunshine x sunshine ✨ hurt/comfort
Oh gosh. This book was so cozy and soft and tender and I loved every single word. Julie is really settling into the small town setting of Never Harbor - it is actually soul crushing that I can’t go there and grab a licorice coffee from Peg Leg or go to a party for a made-up holiday at The Hideaway. And I love that, little by little, it’s expanding (I see you, Rafe 👀).
The romance between Cassidy and Marina was so lovely to sink into. I squealed every time they grabbed each other’s hand, otter friend style. The slow burn was actually perfect for this story and though I would classify this as one of Julie’s less steamier books, the spice was definitely spicing. (He lifts. Her. Onto. His. SHOULDERS. iykyk.)
I also really loved Marina’s growth and her gentle settling into the town. How she made space for herself and connected to both Never Harbor and the people who live there. I absolutely loved her relationship with Charles (the scene at the commuter train with his duffel bag?? I was unwell.) and loved how she loved Cassidy in all of her quiet ways.
And speaking of Mr. Never Harbor, Cassidy is such a great male MC! The golden retriever to end all others. He does everything for everybody else, but still fails to see his worth, until Marina makes him slow down and shows him. His energy and charm was infectious and oozed off of the page.
I cannot wait to be back in Never Harbor next spring, but until then, I’ll keep heading back through this story! I can’t wait to annotate the crap out of my physical copy.
When I tell you this book felt like a warm hug, I truly mean it! I was already in love with these characters from reading 𝐎𝐟𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐇𝐨𝐨𝐤. With the addition of Marina, everything just came together for Cassidy. Cassidy freaking Davies is the perfect golden retriever MMC. I honestly don’t know which book is my favorite now, both books were just the freaking sweetest!
Cassidy has the absolute kindest heart. He makes it his mission to remember little things about everyone in town. What’s their favorite flower, or color, or snack? He just lives his life helping others.
Naturally, when Marina shows up with no where to stay, he offers for her to be his roommate. The forced proximity in this book was so good! All the banter of them fighting over who is sleeping on the couch was perfect.
Marina has been told over and over again that she’s a ‘tease’ or that she’s “too friendly”. When her boss makes unwanted advances towards her, she rejects him and is then fired. With no money, she goes back home to find a very delicious man sleeping in her bungalow.
Marina was such a relatable female lead. Her struggles and the self doubt she feels is something every woman can relate to. She’s been told she’s too friendly whenever guys come onto her and she rejects them. That’s an unfortunate part of our society. Women have to act a certain way, but it’s still never good enough.
I loved how Cassidy helped to build up Marina’s confidence and cancel out all the negative things she’s ever heard about herself. Cassidy and Marina are the purest relationship goals out there! 🥹
💗Roommates to lovers 💗They love gossip 💗Sunshine & Sunshine 💗Small town
Another book by Julie Olivia that I devoured. 🥰
The energy between Cassidy and Marina is contagious, and I don't think I've ever smiled so much while reading a book. I loved that they both love to gossip! But I confess I wasn't prepared for how hot Cassidy would be. 🔥 The chemistry between them is insane.
They both had their insecurities, and I loved how they helped each other see their best sides. I really liked how their relationship progressed; you can feel their connection growing naturally, and when they finally let themselves go, I melted. 🫠
This book gave me such a cozy feeling, and I think this couple is the most heartwarming I've ever come across in my reading. They're simply perfect.
Now I'll eagerly await Lulu and Milo's book. I can't wait to dive into their story and get more glimpses of Peter and Izzy. 😅
Thank you so much, Julie Olivia and Pen Pal PR, for sending me this ARC.
I wanted to love it, I really did. But it felt like our couple was barely on the page together - there were these short scenes of them interacting, followed by one or two longer scenes of them apart. Rinse and repeat. Because of that, the book felt slow (I wanted more romance) and fast (they fell for each other quickly). I loved the soft and quiet vibes of the first book in this series and have sincerely enjoyed several of Olivia's other books, but this was the first that felt incredibly "meh" to me. I was not emotionally invested in the relationship at all, despite the fact that the golden retriever hero was adorable. I was so looking forward to the roommates to lovers situation, and there was a ton of potential at the start. But the sunshine/sunshine dynamic was almost TOO soft and sweet for me, especially since we didn't get enough time seeing them fall. A miss for me.
The story follows Cassidy, a man who never stops moving. He's always busy helping someone in town, and he hates the silence of his still house. So when his landlord's daughter comes home unexpectedly and decides to crash in her dad's rental (not realizing that it's already occupied), Cassidy finds himself with a temporary roommate. Though Cass and Marina went to high school together, Marina left town years ago. Now that they're sharing space and getting closer, the two get to know each other in a way they haven't before. And they both like what they see. But Marina is only in town until she gets back on her feet, and neither of them are the type to move quickly.
I'm a fan of Olivia's writing style, which always brings the soft vibes mixed with a bit of spice. I also love a good roommates romance, and a golden retriever hero is never a bad thing. So this had a lot going for it, especially since I loved the first book in the series. The small town and characters are a spin on Peter Pan, and that's definitely going to work out better in some books than others. I thought this one would be right up my alley though, as the tropes are a perfect fit for me. And I did like both Cass and Marina individually, though I still feel like I barely know them. There was a LOT going on that didn't revolve around their relationship, which... isn't what I'm reading these books for, honestly. I don't mind the community aspect, as long as it doesn't overtake the romance. Unfortunately, it did this time. The book is certainly not bad (except maybe that surprise in the last chapter, lol), but I was genuinely bored for a lot of it, which is almost worse to me than a book I'm disliking. I'm still looking forward to more from the series; this simply wasn't a favorite of mine.
₊ ⊹”you’re my otter. i’m not gonna let you drift away.”₊ ⊹
*:・゚my thoughts┊ i wanted to love this so badly, because i’ve been happily anticipating its release since i finished the first book in this series, but this one really didn’t live up to the expectations. i almost gave this three stars but the more i thought about it and the longer i typed this review, the more disappointed i felt lol.
i had such a hard time getting into the story, connecting with the characters, anything. the main characters felt like they were superficial; they both had like two personality traits that were almost the exact same and that was it. there was no warmth, no depth, nothing. the author definitely took “sunshine” character and ran with it bc that’s quite literally all they had to offer. and i love a good sunshine character as much as anyone else, but the way cass and marina were written was a little too much for me, i guess. it just didn’t feel realistic.
along with the characters, i also didn’t feel like there was much of a plot, tbh. a lot happened in this book that wasn’t even necessary to the main couple, it felt like this was just bridge book to connect to other potential couples and storylines in the future. it felt like so much was happening while, also, not a lot occurred. also the whole thing at the end with marina just felt so underdeveloped and not fitting in the plot, or with her little development as a character. it definitely felt like it was placed simply just to cause strife.
i ended up skimming quite a bit of this, unfortunately. i just didn’t feel the connection to this book at all, which makes me so upset because i’ve really enjoyed all the other works i’ve read by this author! but i don’t know. this one was just a really big miss for me, unfortunately.
i’m actually not sure if i’ll be continuing with the series, especially after the glimpse of the next book in the series. lulu’s character got on my nerves so much in this book, and i can tell it’s like a fake dating situation that is already poorly constructed. if the people at the bar couldn’t tell that milo only stood up for lulu and claimed to be her boyfriend to get a stranger to back off from her, then this town is stupider than i thought. just had to throw that out there lmao
This was a cute story, but it doesn't hold a candle to the others I've read from Julie Olivia.
Honestly, the MCs were a bit irritating at times. The internal conflicts were almost...silly? I don't know how else to put it. Like, grow up a little and don't let other people walk all over you ALL of the time?!
I will continue with the series eventually because I usually love her writing. This one just didn't do it for me!
Thank you to Pen Pal & Julie Olivia for the free ARC in exchange for an honest review!
Out with the Tide was a refreshing reminder as to why I love romance books so much 🤍.
Out with the Tide is a roommates contemporary romance with lots of heartwarming scenes with a tad bit of angst (I ended up crying). Featuring: some of our favorite characters from Off the Hook AND some new characters 😉.
Literally everything about this book was so memorable, I definitely gained a new comfort book. I couldn't be more excited for you guys to read this 👏.
Cassidy is the kind of man that is so admirable, he is humble, sweet, romantic and an avid communicator!! The biggest green flag ever 🥹🙌.
If you love romance books with a MMC who is head over heels for the FMC and devotedly in love with her, then this is the book for you!!! (He also knows how to braid hair 😏)
I literally loved everything about this book, the characters, plot and romance were literally amazing. I read this in an entire day too (Which proves how committed to the story I was).
Marina is such a incredible FMC as well, I loved her character development. Personality wise, I am very similar to her so I loved seeing someone treat her the way she deserved. I also love how much of a plant mom she is, Fido was one of the biggest stars in this book.
Julie Olivia really did an otter-ly amazing job with this book ;)
(You'll get the reference when you read the book)
I am super excited to read her upcoming work, which tbh couldn't get here soon enough! 🫶🏼
4.5⭐ Thank you Pen Pal PR and Julie Olivia for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I absolutely adored this book, Julie Olivia's books are always conforting and cozy, especially this serie, being set during the summer, feels like sunshine and a warm breeze after a long winter. The characters were adorable and made for eachother: i loved their relationship as friends and then as lovers and how their slowburn was build. Marina is reckless, a free spirit, funny and caring, i'm glad she fell in love with her hometown again, finally understanding that Never Harbour is where she belongs, that this small town and its people is enough for her to stop running. Cassidy is a precious man, a full green flag, sensible, altruistic and selfless: he always puts people and their needs first. At the beginning he had low self-efficacy, so i'm pleased he regained trust in his abilities, capacities and potential thanks to Marina and his brothers plus i'm happy he decided to open his bussness for himself, putting his wants first. Marina and Cassidy were always hyping eachother and in the end we see how they fully grow in the best versions of themselves (they were already perfect btw): Marina understood she's not like her mother, in the contrary she's better and loved by everyone; Cassidy finally realized he's much more than what he tought he was.
I can't wait for Lulu and Milo's book, i just love a best friend's brother and age gap romance.
ps. the sentence “You’re my otter. I’m not gonna let you drift away.” broke me down, i want an otter friend too.🦦🦦🫶🫶🩵🩷
I enjoyed the 1st in the series so I gave this book way too many chances. It was not good.
Both MCs are pathetic pushover. It was uncomfortable reading how much they would lick the ground for ANYONE else. I love loyalty and devotion in my books but only for 1 or 2 people. When your whole life revolves around making people like you, it doesn't count.
- sponsor changes the terms of the town fundraiser and nobody can tell him no. Why not???
- fmc boss sexually harassed her and fired her when she told him know. CLEARLY, he is at fault. She. Tells. No one. And he is the sponsor for thr event so they have SO many uncomfortable interactions throughout the book but since she lied and blamed herself for being fired, NO ONE KNOWS HE'S A PREDATOR. Not cool. I revoke your woman card.
- mmc let's fmc move into his 1 bedroom condo because he's a saint. Is there zero vacancy in this town?? Why can't he help her find her own place??? But he's so perfect that he plans to sleep on the couch for this freeloader. Better yet, they weren't even friends back in school. They just knew of each other.
- fmc refuses to sleep in his bed cause she's too nice. So she takes the couch. So in a challenge to be more of a doormat than her, mmc sleeps on the fucking floor. So you're telling me NO ONE is using the bed??
- the entire town are severe alcoholics. Not in a cute, let's have wine on girls night kind if way. Like they all meet at Peter's bar and do shots in between their drinks because it's a day that ends in Y. But nobody sees a problem or has a hangover even though they're almost 30??

The short and simple review is I loved this book and you need to read it now!🩷
Now for the rest of my thoughts..
The chemistry between Marina and Cassidy is amazing- I just loved their relationship so much! They are so real and relatable as characters and I just loved the way they propped each other up.
The entire Davies crew is now one of my top fav fictional families.
The setting and pacing of the story were both perfect! Overall this was just a really great, heartwarming and swoony story!
This was my first by this author, but can’t wait to read more of hers!
Highly recommend checking this one out especially if you like small town, roommates to lovers, one bed, and forced proximity tropes!🩷
Thank you @penpalpr & @julieoliviaauthor for this #gifted copy!🫶🏼
thank you so much the Pen Pal PR & Julie Olivia for the arc!!!
never harbor is such a magical place & i love returning to it!! marina & cass were so sweet, so fun, and so easy to fall for!!! i loved their banter, their bond & their dynamic!!
both marina & cassidy were two incredibly relatable and genuine main characters who had such kind, loving, and endearing personalities. the depth to both of them was great, i loved getting to see both of them heal old wounds and find comfort within themselves & each other!!!
this is a small town, forced proximity (roommates), friends to lovers, sunshine x golden retriever romance with some spice & banter!!! so much fun, i definitely recommend if you’re looking for a sweet, fun, easy read :)
This romance felt a lot more lust-driven and physically focused, so I didn’t enjoy it nearly as much as Off the Hook, but I do think Cassidy and Marina had great chemistry. And I liked the continuation of the Peter Pan vibes here with a peek into Mermaid Lagoon, a beloved cliffside alcove in the small town of Never Harbor. So fun!
After getting fired from her job in California, Marina returns to her hometown, where she ends up with no choice but to room with the charming Cassidy Davies. The synopsis doesn’t go into the details of her firing, so I won’t either to avoid spoilers—but I had a hard time with how the whole situation was handled. The inconsistencies in Marina's reactions made this storyline feel kind of anticlimactic and frustrating to read.
But I adored Cassidy! He’s your classic small-town guy with no intention of ever leaving Never Harbor. He’s overly generous with his time and energy and deeply attuned to the people around him. But even with all that heart, he struggles to see his own potential. I loved seeing Marina believe in him so completely, always supporting his dreams and helping him find his confidence.
Otters are my favourite. This one was as wonderful as every other romance book by Julie. I cannot put them down and I just want to read more and more. This series is like the Chesapeake Shore series (books and tv show) because of the brothers and small town vibes and family. I can see this on the screen quite easily. I just love Julie's books so much.
"You're my otter, I'm not gonna let you drift away".
I didn’t love it quite as much as the first one, but it was still really enjoyable. Milo is one of my favorite characters so I’m super excited for his story next.
I received my first ever ARC and it so happened to be my favourite author?!? Insane. I wish I could say I'm surprised at how good this book was but I'm not because Julie has literally never failed to amaze me.
Everyone needs to experience Cassidy Davies, because my god🧎🏼♀️
the banter, the tension, the COUPLE + me = complete.
Thankyou to Julie and Penpal for allowing me to experience this absolute masterpiece early.
“you’re my otter. i’m not gonna let you drift away” 🦦💐💌
It was cute and sweet. Low stress. I liked it, but it just never pulled me in. The second half was a little uneven and I found myself losing interest. Small town w lots of characters so I’m sure it’ll be a long series.
“You’re my otter. I’m not gonna let you drift away.”
Thank you so much to Pen Pal PR and Julie Olivia for the ARC of Out with the Tide! I was so excited to get to visit Never Harbor again.
I highlighted so many cute moments and quotes from this book!!! (the Trash Bag Bobbi lines made me cackle)
Cassidy Davies is super lovable. He’s thoughtful and caring and takes notes!!! Marina is instantly relatable. Any woman who has been afraid her friendliness will be mistaken for flirting will understand. As someone with background in flowers, I love that she finds comfort among flowers and plants. Hope Fido lives a good and long life!
The slow-burn romance was done just right. I love love love forced proximity and I loved that Cassidy and Marina just leaned into it. Their chemistry clicked right away and their relationship developed so easily.
I would have loved to see more of Marina and her dad though! Their limited time together makes sense story-wise but I love their relationship and want more!
PS: Can’t wait for LuLu and Milo’s story next year!!!
PPS: Loved the Honeywood shoutout!

ugh, this rating hurtssss after rating the first book a full 5 stars & i feel like im the only one who thought this was not great. ultimately this one fell SO flat for me and was very underwhelming, especially after reading the first book a month ago & having high expectations for this one. I almost DNF it but pushed through - it wasn’t necessarily unenjoyable or a difficult read, just very meh
the plot felt very weak, & the climax/main conflicts were so beyond predictable. I could have predicted the entire book in the first few chapters. I’m so upset that I didn’t really feel connected to either of the main characters either - I LOVE the Davies family, especially after book 1, but I feel like we didn’t go nearly as deep with Cassidy & Marina as we could have.
SPOILERS: If it wasn’t for the mutual pining & shared bed trope or sweet notebook scene towards the end with Cassidy proving how he knows Marina, this probably would have been 2 stars 🥲

💭 overall thoughts: It’s really just a feeling, this was an instant-fav for me. I feel that way a lot about Julie’s writing!
💪🪴 MCs: Both MCs were so incredibly lovable, I could use more sunshine + sunshine reads in my life!
Marina is so sweet, and a little too trusting. She needs someone who deserves that trust.
Cassidy - oh sweet Cass. I just want to hug this man and protect him at all costs. He’s the epitome of a good guy 🥹
📖 story: I loved the story! We really got to see both MCs grow as individuals and together.
It made me think about how sometimes we’re stuck as this person everyone expects us to be, or thinks we are from our past. This affects our own perception of ourselves too.
How can we change, grow, evolve? Sometimes asking for help is the answer, and the people who love you will be there. I love the family & found family dynamic in Never Harbor 🥰
🤍side characters: THOSE DAVIES! Gah. Love them all. I can’t wait for Milo & Lulu’s story. And Peter. And Bonnie! The sibling group chat is so fun once again.
