Although I have been a published author since the mid 1980s, I have been writing women's Christian fiction almost exclusively since 1999.
There is a longer, more detailed bio on my website so there's no need for me to repeat all that here. Right now, I write for all three Love Inspired lines, Romance, Suspense and Historical. I'm delighted to have been included that broadly and besides, it keeps me so busy that I stay out of trouble. Well, mostly.
You'll find me on the LI Historical blog as well as other LI features. If I try to do much more I won't have time to write my books!
A storm, a muddy rained soaked man along with his two small sons and a small dog is not what Brianna expected when she opened the door. This fun loving romance gave way to tense moments of sheer panic for Bree in her pristine home. Mitch, Ryan, Bud and Barney the dog brought laughter though and romance. It was a lighthearted read during the unsettling time in our nation currently. Rural areas are the best to live and see compassion shown to all despite differences even though this was fictional, I’ve seen it in rural areas folks caring and loving others no matter the cost.
This was a used book from a library sale, thus a review was not required.
I basically read this romance book, (something I really don't care for) because it covered two challenges I was working on. One, the state of Arkansas for the state challenge and two, a mother/child book for Book Battle. Pretty much your regular book. A flood forces Mitch and his two sons to take refuge with Bree for about a week. She has not had much experience with men, small boys or a dog, but somehow they manage to fall in love and get married.
Writer Brianna (Bree) Walker moves to the Arkansas hills to find peace and quiet in order to continue writing her romance novels. Her wish isn't granted due to a massive thunderstorm that floods the area her cabin is in, and completely destroys the cabin of single parent Mitch Fowler and his young sons, Bud and Ryan. They, along with a bedraggled dog, head to Bree's cabin for shelter.
Hilarity ensues.
Hansen wrote my favorite of the Love Inspired series ("The Perfect Couple") and her sense of humor is again on display here as clean freak Bree deals with children, a dog, and her growing attraction to Mitch. The kids do come across as bratty at times, but Hansen's characters are all very human and very flawed.
The issue of whether or not to have children is an interesting one, since I have many friends who've opted to remain childless. Bree's reasons for doing so relate to her homelife and watching her develop a bond for both Bud and Ryan is nice.
It was better than I expected. I've read titles by Valerie Hansen in the past and usually enjoy her characterization etc. I read this one in a day. A friend (Mh) sent me this book in a box of books.
As always, my biggest con is the short length of time the two main characters have before they're engaged/married. In this case, Brianna and Mitch meet and fall in love in what appears to be less than a week's time and are married by the end of the book. In real life, I'd say the couple was still in the infatuation stage. And while that can lead to true love, it doesn't always.
The HEA was a bit abrupt .. but the conversations between Brianna and Mitch were way above average. This book has a very lively plot (definitely helped by two young boys and a dog) set in rural Arkansas.
This book about love is funny and light. Bree and Mitch married after a shaky start. Mitch and his two boys and a dog took shelter in Bree’s house after her pond wash their cabin away. After being stranded there for days, fell in love. She realized she could love kids.
I really don't like whirlwind romances and this turned out to be one. There were a lot of unanswered questions as well. It is also a pet peeve of mine where there is a near tragedy at the end which brings the characters together which this book also had.
This is just a really simple fast romantic read. A little bit preachy which I don't appreciate, but a cute story anyhow. If you like this kind of thing this is a good read for you.
