After the devastating events of winter, Martel's first year is at an end, and his secret is out. He must wear the red robes of a fire acolyte and begin training to become a battlemage. His dreams of working the weather are ruined; he will learn magic to kill the enemies of the Empire, and at year's end, he will be sent to war.
In Morcaster, the streets are also dangerous. The Pact, the peace between the Nine Lords, remains tenuous as ever. While Martel has no desire to tangle with the underworld, a possible war between the crime lords also endangers his friends among the less fortunate of the city. And when a relic is stolen to threaten that very Pact, Martel is the only mage that can prevent blood flowing on the streets.
Martel is a battle mage. He is studying at the magic academy. He didn't want to be a battle mage, since they have a short life expectancy in battle. However, a great display of power while saving an entire district of the city from burning down sealed his fate. Battle, betrayal, and mystery ensue. I like the action, humor, and intrigue. I look forward to the next book.
This third installment in the series is just as good as the other two. I may have even enjoyed it more because I'm now familiar with the characters and with the setting. Martel is also definitely growing in terms of his maturity and ability to handle the situations he's put in, which is very nice. His training has changed quite a bit now that he's been ousted as a Fire-touched mage and forced to train as a battlemage, with 20 years of serving in the army to look forward to - or dread. There are some really great and interesting uses of different types of magic. I also really loved the potion-making aspects of the book. Overall, an excellent installment and I'll definitely be going back for the next one.
Firebrand the acolyte is the third book in this series, and it hasn't slowed down in the least. This book is just as actionpacked as the first two, and friends, enemies and people that think they're helping are everywhere. How the main character deals with these various groups makes for a pretty good story, andone I'd be happy to read more about in future books.
Loved this book! Martel was great in this book; with each book, you can see growth. Loved the intrigue and action in this book. I loved seeing Martel's interactions in this book with the different groups in this book. I also loved seeing Eleanor and Maximillian again; they were great in this book. The plot was super interesting, and I was on the edge of my seat while reading it. Also, the magic systems revealed in this book were super awesome; the new kinds of magic were really cool. I can't wait to see what comes next for Martel's journey. I highly recommend this book.
Shortest chapter I have ever read. If so, in every chapter, the MC walks around a lot, from the lyceum (yes, he is a wizard) to some other parts of the city doing random stuff every single "day". There's no plot to speak of, just the MC doing random stuff
I'm in the middle of the third book, and I think I'm done
