A Charming Magic by Tonya Kappes
Magical Cures Mystery series #5. Paranormal cozy mystery.
June uses her sleuthing skills to find out who slipped the poison into her shop.

Spider is fun to follow. He always knows what’s ok and what’s dangerous.
Total twist in the book that I’ve been wondering about.

🎧 I listened to this book via audiobook which was narrated by Karan Savage. I actually like the narrator a lot. No southern drawl. And even better, avoid the text errors in print which would have lowered my rating. Seriously, a good pace and confident voice control.

2014-02-09. I think it's time for me to quit reading this series. Most of the storyline annoys me as she is so petty and self absorbed. Then everything ends up all hunky dory. I did enjoy a few parts and there were a few interesting twist but they couldn't overcome the annoyance factor for me.

Once again we find June Heal trying every potion/spell/whatever that can restore Oscar's memory and spiritualist powers. Again we find June not listening/heeding her instincts, even though her instincts are her powers. Again we find June breaking Village rules and causing mayhem and destruction, all the while being Village President. Petunia is even more absurd and annoying than the last book, a spiritualist version of Bridezilla. So the potion June makes without heeding her instincts or spiritualist laws is used on Petunia and I am not sorry for that at all. But since Petunia is a resident and major side character, she is only in a coma and not dead. And it is up to June to discover/end whatever it was that she started. At least no one is blaming the new store owner this time around.

This book was a little more fun and interesting to read, especially as June goes on a secret mission to another community and realizes there is an epic showdown between good and evil and guess what? - June is the good side's Chosen One. June is screwing up being VP of Whispering Falls, and bumbles her way into finding the killers in these mysteries, so naturally she is the Chosen One. Sure, totally. The showdown is less than epic, but a threat to do this all again at a later date is made.

During showdown, Oscar gets his memory and powers back, thank baby Thor - this was the most frustrating multi-book story arc and now June can stop being a rule breaker and attracting mayhem whenever she makes a new potion for Oscar. Petunia comes out of her coma, marries, and gets her wish as VP because June even as moments of self-awareness and knows she sucks as VP.

This was another good read in the series. June is trying to get over Oscar. He still hasn't gained back his memory. While she is trying to find a cure trouble is wreaking havoc. Sadly June is being set up to take the fall for the crimes. Luckily by the end the truth comes out and we get some happy news.

Sadly the protagonist has become less and less likeable each book in the series. It started of a fun, lighthearted, easy read. Some mindless dribble to entertain after a long stressful day. The super racist gypsy trope sealed the deal and killed the series for me. The lazy writing had already msde this book difficult to read and i was struggling to get through it. At 81% finished I walked away when eveey other word was a derogatory slur against the Roma people.

No thanks, I prefer my entertainment racisim free.

Roma people are real, not some make-believe people that are fun to lable evil for entertainment. I have Roma friends and they deserve better than this!

In a world of psychics and made up magic, why use a real people who have suffered as your fall guy. No thanks.

Not only do good things come to those who wait, but patience is a virtue. June Heal hasn't learned these things yet, so when a new and beautiful woman moves to Whispering Heights, she is certain that woman is after her man. Once she decides she's losing the love of her life, June begins working on a love potion to give to Oscar. It seems as though the whole universe is against June when another Whispering Heights couple become engaged and the groom to be has given his bride the ring June wanted Oscar to give her. Things turn even uglier when all of the town begins to die after the appearance of a strange customer. What could be causing the death of her beloved town and how will she ever get Oscar's love again? These are the things that have June visiting her Great Aunt and finding out a disturbing truth. What happens next? Guess you should read the book to find out. Another great book by Tonya Kappes. I love this series and hate that I have to wait for the next one.

I'm out. No more. These books are so poorly written / edited that I can no longer handle reading them.

And June. Oh June. You are so self-centered and completely unlikeable. You think everything should be about you. You are insecure and needy. You hate every new woman who comes to Whispering Falls. If I were Oscar I would be thrilled to have my memories erased because you are just the world's worst person. And this ending was the worst of all. I'm so done.

These plots are dumb, June is an idiot, and the writing stinks. If I hadn't gotten all of these books at once when the series was on sale at Amazon I would have stopped after book 2. I think this is the last one I have, though, so sayonara to Whispering Falls for me!

I enjoy this series so much!! Tonya has a way of giving you a feel good, escape into the world of Whispering Falls.
June Heal must come to terms with her jealously if she is going to save the town.
Surprising ending. I can't wait to see what happens next.

"A Charming Magic (A Magical Cures Mystery #5)" by Tonya Kappes has yet another new shop opening up in Whispering Falls and another suspicious shop keeper moving to town. Also, the new shop keeper is making moves on Oscar and he still doesn't know who he was to June/she was to him. So, very frustrating right there alone. On top of that, friends of June get engaged and start moving super quick to get married. Seemingly egged on or maybe hindered by the new shop keeper.

I have to say that this book in the series frustrated me. Between the gaslighting June was experiencing and June's out and out ignoring her familiars/intuition, it was just frustrating. I almost want to give up on this series after this book. However, I have read Tonya Kappes' other series books and know she has a book or three like this in almost every one of her series sets. So I will give more a shot. Plus the story over all was fairly decent. Just frustrating.

Another new business opens in Whispering Falls, KY – a florist shop. June is still working on figuring out how to bring back Oscar’s memory of their previous life before he was stripped of his memories. The new business owner Arabella is putting the moves onto Oscar which is driving June crazy.

June is assisting with the wedding plans for two of the other spiritualist shop keeprs but also a little jealous as she would like it to be her and Oscar. She travels to a Dark-Sider town and gets into all sorts of trouble.

Read on to find out about the new shopkeeper, the wedding and June’s hope that Oscar falls back in love with her.

Another good story with June and all her friends. However, the story is kind of all over the place. Like her previous books it can get confusing. Still enjoyable though. I found Arabella to be an interesting character as a new shop owner in Whispering Falls. I did not care for her in the beginning but after learning her reasoning later in the story I could accept her more. I found the background information on Gerald interesting as well. It will be interesting to see what happens next in the series.

This has been a very entertaining series. Book five starts the epic battle between the good side and dark side of the paranormal world. Loves lost and loves found, battles between good and evil. The characters are quirky and fun, as well as spooky and somewhat frightening.
Tonya Kappes spins magical tales that draws a person in. She has a good sense of humor that works it's way into her written word. I am a fan of hers and keep coming back for great diversions.

June is still working on a potion to help Oscar remember their love and a new shop opens next door to her. Thinking the new shop owner, Arabella, will be very nice and she will welcome her, June goes to give her a gift. What she gets is lots of sarcasm and Arabella deciding that she wants Oscar. A pall comes over the whole town and June tries her best to figure out how to help the town. The more she investigates, the murkier things seem. What can she do to save her town and Oscar?

Romance is in the air in Whispering Falls but so is something sinister

Couldn't put this book down and loved the ending. A new flower shop has opened next door and its owner Arabella has Oscar in her sights. Petunia and George are engaged but thunderclouds are on the horizon. When things start going wrong and start dying can June figure out what's going on before one of the residents drops dead. Will June and Oscar get to move to the next stage of their relationship

Another new shop has come to Whispering Falls. This time, however, the owner-Arabella Paxton is not making friends with June. Arabella makes a point of going after Oscar. The news give the opinion that there will soon be a wedding and June is positive it is her and Oscar. It is actually Petunia and Gerald – they are finally getting married after years of sneaking around. Oddly, things in Whispering Falls are dying including a favorite citizen. June has several mysteries to unravel.

So happy with the way this one ended. The June/Oscar story line was really starting to irritate me and I’m glad this book brought a change of pace when it comes to their storyline. I also liked all the back story on Gerald instead of just focusing on June. I do wish we knew more about the people of this town and that June would learn more about her gifts. Hopefully the next book dive in deeper. These do make a quick easy read and I really enjoy reading them.

Entertaining fantasy listening 🎶🔰

This kindle e-book novella is from my Kindle Unlimited account book five of fourteen.

June sees 👀 there is a new shop in town. There is not much known about the business but the fun begins. Lots of action and misdirection leading to the conclusion.

I would recommend this series and author to 👍readers of fantasy world 🌎 family and friends relationships adventure thriller novels 👍🔰. 2024 👒😤🐈

Fun series, great light listen. I'm about half way through the series. I love the concept of the small town with the different spiritualists and their corresponding shops, a new one introduced each book. Plots are pretty basic, but I enjoyed the guessing. The main character was nice and quite likeable in the first few books, but got a bit of an attitude as the series progressed. The author over-uses certain phrases to an annoying degree (e.g. "my intuition" and "sneaky suspicion.")

June soon finds out that jealousy will destroy you as that’s all she can feel for those around her who have good things happen to them. As her town slowly dies she searches for the answers to save the people and the town. This is a very creative and imaginative series and I’ve enjoyed reading it very much.

Quick. Easy. Finished. Now on to book 6.

I am emotionally invested in June & Oscar. I wonder what is in store for them in the next book.
I did want to add that this somewhat innocent series would be perfect for a mother/daughter read.

I was dissappointed in this book. I have enjoyed the series but here June is just acting like an idiot. She keeps saying she has her cat and chrystal ball to help guide her but she doesn't… I really hope things will be better in the next 2 books since I already bought them.

The plot thickens. So much happening all at once, but what is causing it all to go haywire? Is it June's jealousy, the new girl in town, or something else? This book had the most intrigue of the series so far. I liked all the intrigue. It was a great read!

Charming

This series will charm you in ever way. Fun people you wish you knew, even in dark times, perhaps wish you really knew in the dark of life. Twists and turns can catch you off guard, but in the end love wins...and makes the Calderon boil.
