Stan and Jan Berenstain (often called The Berenstains) were American writers and illustrators best known for creating the children's book series the Berenstain Bears. Their son Mike Berenstain joined them as a creative team in the late 1980s.
I appreciate that the Berenstains have acquired a clear stance on Christianity. It's not far-fetched that the Berenstains endorse Christianity because the stories have always been wholesome. I pray that the grandchildren and further descendants of Stan and Jan Berenstain continue the family legacy.
This book is a remake of a Berenstain Bears book I actually had as a kid (The Berenstain Bears' Four Seasons) and I have to say, directly comparing the 90's book to this one published in 2012 really does illustrate the tonal shift that occurred in this franchise over time.
I know it's a stereotype to say that all Christian children's media is the Rod and Todd Flanders "Iron helps us play!" saccharine fluff where the sharp edges have been filed so deeply that all the characters do is stand there and smile sweetly, but man...I miss when Brother and Sister Bear didn't do that weird face they do in the newer books where they just stand there staring at the viewer with their mouths hanging open.
The rhymes are cute at least, and they work well when read aloud. I especially like the drawing of the very frustrated robin digging in the frozen soil for a worm while these gormless bears - now removed of what little personality traits they had in the 80's - stand there slack jawed while rhyming "yummy" with "tummy".
Awesome book! Always glad for more Living Lights Christian message early readers from the Berenstain Bears I Can Read Level 1 readers as they are almost pretty good, but this one is down right wonderful all the way through. Educational and fun touching on each of the four seasons with science and fact making it a year round read. But the rhyme and rhythm of each stanza makes this pure poetry and run to read aloud. This one is definitely a favorite for me and we'll be keeping it handy.
Continuing on with the 50th Anniversary celebration, Zonderkidz has a new I Can Read book by the Berenstain bears.
Taking a look at the four seasons God made, in rhyme, this book is a great easy reader. The larger words are able to be figured out in context because of the season and wonderful illustrations.
My early reader loves to read the Berenstain bears to his younger brother. I love the confidence that these easy readers help to give him, while the subject is one that the youngest ones love!
This is a level 1 reading book with large text and easy vocabulary words. Kids will be able to read and understand it. It is a great book to have them read when talking about the the seasons. It's great to have them read and understand and you elaborate on it if needed when talking about the seasons.
